Captcha Practice Opportunity (or, A Shameless Plea for Votes)
10If you’re bored and would like practice completing Captcha challenges, and wouldn’t mind potentially helping get my hometown hockey team’s rink upgraded, head on over to https://www.krafthockeyville.com and vote for Shreveport as repeatedly as possible. Voting closes tomorrow morning (4/14).
I noticed a particularly fiendish variation that would surely prevent a Fuko purchase. You are presented with the usual grid of pictures and asked to click all the objects of interest, but instead of checking them and then hitting submit, the pictures you tap go away and new ones load. You have to keep hitting them until no more pictures appear that match the criteria and then you can hit submit.

Go mudbugs! Also I heard that if you’re logged into Google, you won’t get (as many) captchas. Not sure if true though.
@Moose Yeah! Go Mudbugs!
And I usually only get the checkbox Captcha and am always logged into Google. I voted about 20 times with just the checkbox when my coworker (our resident huge hockey fan) told me about it. I left the page open and came back to it about an hour later when I took a break, and suddenly I was getting full Captcha challenges about 70% of the time.
@Moose @djslack
On Sunday, after not having them for a year, I got capchas despite being logged in.
They went away after a few hours, which didn’t really help, because I only got online near the end of the listings.
@djslack @Moose
Wait… We’re two weeks into the month?!?
@PlacidPenguin Yes. File your taxes if you haven’t yet.
@djslack
'Twas done already, but thanks.
Shreveport, Louisiana, the first home of Wolfman Jack. Owwwwwwwooooooo!
Used to listen to him on late night fishing trips when radio waves would skip over to Oz. What a kick!
@Barney Cool! It’s also where George Carlin got his start.
@djslack George Carlin was the bestest.
@Barney Wait, what?! Radio skip? You remember AM radio? Damn, you’re old!
Could you get the late night skip from KAAY, the Mighty 1090 from Little Rock? Clyde Clifford was my introduction to many weird things, some of which make me look forward to retirement so I can go back to enjoying them. He blanketed the Ozarks, but I don’t know if he reached Oz.
@Pavlov You’re an old fucker like me…
Were you in KC back in the early 70’s?
Could you get Beaker Street there then?
Is that part of your problem today?
@2many2no I’m still listening to AM radio. So, there!
There was a radio station from Little Rock that we could get, but I don’t remember Clyde Clifford. We couldn’t pick up this station too often, because it was often drowned out by a station in Del Rio, Texas. Damn Texans, they think they own the world.
@Barney I thought they did. Are you trying to tell me different?
@2many2no Puh-lease, don’t let @f00l hear you say that. We’ll never hear the end about your capitulation.
@Barney @f00l My capitulation?
/youtube We’re from Texas
@2many2no You’re a Texan? And I really liked you…
@2many2no @Barney
Re: owning the world
We do. Usually good natured about it tho.

Re that Del Rio station:
When the FCC or whoever tried to limit their night broadcasting power a little so they would stop messing with local broadcasts, they just moved across the river.
Or so I remember.

@2many2no @Barney
Re night skip
WBAP is an early am station from Fort Wortg that’s still going.
Their signature station sound effect was a cowbell back from the station’s founding in the 1920’s thru at least the 1950’s. Perhaps they still use the effect.
My uncle heard them on night skip. While he was in the Navy. He heard that cowbell and knew.
During WWII. On a ship somewhere in the middle and western Pacific.
When his buddies realized they could sometimes pickup the station, when they had free time and got lucky with the signal, they had regular listing sessions.
He wrote home from shipboard about it.
He prob exaggerated a little. He tried to always wore cheerful stiff. But the radioman did pick it up and play it for the crew from time to time on ship during the Pacific war.
@Barney @f00l ZZ Top made a song about that…
/youtube Heard It On the X
Contrary to popular opinion, it’s about radio, not drugs.
Well, maybe that, too.
@2many2no No, I was not living in KC in the 70’s, I moved to KC (the first time) from Nebraska in '83, although I had been living part-time in the area previously.
I’m a pretty big Firesign Theatre fan.
I have no fucking idea what my problem is . . .
@Pavlov Then…
No problem.
I got about 10 in before I had to check photos.
I have voted maybe 50 or 75 times. That was the Clinton Comets, right?
@sammydog01 Something like that. I think I just put in about 50 too. Captchas started after 13 votes, and the last twenty or so started being the evil ones and/or multiple rounds of Captcha. I think we’re teaching their self driving cars today.
Thanks for the votes!
Looks like we got 4th place, which means they still get $10,000 for improvements to the rink. Thank you to all who helped
teach Google’s baby Skynetvote!@djslack Did the Clinton Comets win?
@sammydog01 Yes, they did. Probably thanks to your 75 votes !
@djslack I voted for the Mudbugs. Honest.
@djslack woohoo! 10k is nothing to sneeze at.
@RiotDemon No, it’s not. I don’t think it was known that there were prizes for all the finalists, so that was nice for them.
@djslack @sammydog01 Thanks to your first post, I was made aware of the contest and was able to cast over 200 votes. The tiny village of Clinton is going crazy over winning ! [Utica O.D.]
