@Ignorant I’ve purchased over 100 items from Meh and will certainly be purchasing more. They have a great pedigree, having started Woot and the “one item per day rock bottom price till gone” concept. After selling Woot to Amazon, and dealing with a breakfast octopus corporate culture, they went back to their roots with Meh…selling one thing cheap, and being overall wiseasses (in the best possible way). The customer service is exceptional and they get the product to you in a timely manner. That’s my .02…have fun!
@Ignorant
Yeah, this company lets Goats just put the ScapeGoating feature on Pause at will. Obviously any company that allows ScapeGoats to just walk away from their duties is shifty.
@margot that’s really nice. I’d be really proud if I was this “meh” person. Over 100 items? wew. margot, I’m single, would you like to know my ring size?
That surprises me about Abe’s…I see their name plastered everywhere. I never knew that about them…Oh, and Yeah, I’ve been buying Canon for years. Be careful with your decision, because once you start buying lenses, you’re locked in…I’m all over the place this morning.
In Greek mythology, Ēōs (/ˈiːɒs/; Ionic and Homeric Greek Ἠώς, Attic Ἕως Éōs, “dawn”, pronounced [ɛːɔ̌ːs] or [héɔːs]; Aeolic Αὔως Aúōs, Doric Ἀώς Āṓs) is a Titaness and the goddess[1] of the dawn, who rose each morning from her home at the edge of the Oceanus.
Eos had a brother and a sister, Helios, god of the sun, and Selene, goddess of the moon.
From The Iliad:
Now when Dawn [EOS] in robe of saffron was hastening from the streams of Oceanus, to bring light to mortals and immortals, Thetis reached the ships with the armor that the god had given her.
— Iliad xix.1
But soon as early Dawn [EOS] appeared, the rosy-fingered, then gathered the folk about the pyre of glorious Hector.
— Iliad xxiv.776
Damn. Can’t afford it right now. Gotta recarpet the rental house. It would be great for when we go to meet our new grand babies in August. The premee is doing well. Almost 3 pounds. Last weekend she pulled her breathing tube out multiple times. Now she is on regular oxygen. The next one is due in August.
Well now I’m curious, how many websites are there that are named after large South American rivers? It’s obvious the write-up is talking about that small local company 'round these parts, but are there any others?
Hnnng. This looks perfect for my needs- I’ve been teetering for months on the edge of taking photos beyond the capability of my iPhone- but the delivery estimate has this arriving two days after I leave for an international vacation (exactly the time I’d want a new camera, ironically). Guess I’m paying the river prices.
@RedOak I want something cheap so that when the CPB thugs steal it, … I mean “unconstitutionally confiscate for inspection without a warrant or reasonable cause in violation of the 4th, 5th, and due process clauses”, I can make sure there’s nothing physically on the device if it comes back “broken”.
(Actual product commentary: two family members who do or have done photography for a living both like these cameras; both say the Canon Rebel “i” models are a decent choice for those who want more control and choice than their smartphone offers.)
From someone who’s been a camera enthusiast for the past decade I would just say that Canon and Nikon are no longer the no-brainer systems to buy in to. They have been capitalizing on their innovations from years ago and are now falling behind. Before buying into any system check out the other brands like Fuji, Sony, Olympus because they are on a trajectory to be kicking Canikons ass very soon. Or even already in my opinion.
While we’ve got you here, any thoughts on which camera in this vague price range offers the best performance in both macro photography and optical zoom/telephoto? (Not both in the same pic, of course)
@stoopkid Until they have the interchangeability availability of lenses that Nikon does, I’ll continue to stick with with my D90 and my Daughter’s D3300 kit. It is far easier and cheaper than messing with OlymFony on the the basis of “trajectory”, especially when dealing with entry level DSLRs.
Has Meh.com ever sold a good video camera for filming sporting events? I saw this has video mode, but I’m wondering if there’s ever been a better option?
@rtjhnstn well different colors are fun, but if LEDs are useless, they might just make things worse in a photo equipment. say unnecessary reflection at night or something. oh well.
I’m on the fence, because it is a good deal for this particular kit, but I know I’d be disappointed in the end. I started with a Pentax K1000 in college, got a Nikon D6600 film SLR after that, then a D70, then a D200 DSLR to shoot bands and other low-light stuff. I was so ingrained with the Nikon nomenclature and way of doing things that every Canon I’ve used since (except for the PowerShot G16, which I love) has made me crazy.

I don’t trust this company.
@Ignorant I don’t trust you.
@anyone_else Trust me, trust meh.com

@ignorant I don’t get it.
@margot Yeah, he knows. He’s just trolling as usual.
@margot
Did they sell Woot.com at a “rock bottom” price?
@margot that’s really nice. I’d be really proud if I was this “meh” person. Over 100 items? wew. margot, I’m single, would you like to know my ring size?

@wew People are coming here from ycombinator? wow! That’s hot! I just go there for hacker news. I wonder how people are getting here from there.
@Ignorant You don’t trust Canon? They’ve be in the photography business since 1937!
Well shoot I can’t picture myself with this Canon
EOS or POS?
@JT954
from wikipedia:

Therefore, in answer to your question, EOS or POS, I dunno.
@JT954

@narfcake According to the EXIF data, the first one was shot with a Canon SLR; Nahh, just kidding.
@f00l Yes EOS, that dress does make you look fat. But the wings completely draw your eyes away, so no one will ever notice.
@beachhead
First off, you’re fat-shaming and dress-shaming. Directed at a Deity, no less.
Second, since she’s a Deity, don’t mess with her, Deities have fireballs and thunderbolts and the ability to transform irritating mortals into Goats.
I bought this from Meh on a previous posting. I love it- it’s really a nice camera.
I got the package they put out around Christmas with the same camera. It’s leagues better than my old DSLR, and the best deal I have ever seen on it.
Bought this last time. It’s been good for what I use it for. Surprised the price isn’t lower this time but it’s still a good deal.
@njd i looked back in my purchase history and IT IS $10 cheaper. Atleast that covers the shipping!!!
Haven’t they used that line before? Or is this summer strange deja vu?

@stinks seems familiar…

@stinks
Maybe they changed the typeface or background color? That kinda makes it “new” doesn’t it?
@awk I knew it!
But thanks to your research, I now know it took me an embarrassingly long time to catch on.

I was seriously considering this but apparently it’s almost identical to the camera I’ve had since 2010. Ah well.
@HELLOALICE
That’s a rather astute point of order.
Of course you’re aware the “i” model Rebels for a given generation are a fair bit nicer than the plain non-“i’s”.
But it’s still quite surprising your three gen older T3i stacks up so well to a three gen newer T6.
Our T2i still shoots nice photos but we do miss the improved video of later models.
whats the dill?

@username That isn’t from Walmart. It is from some unknown online place.
@username you’re really gonna send 400 bucks to “Buy Direct & Save” or “Teds Electronics”? Good luck!
@RedOak Strangely, I have zero qualms sending $400 to some Mediocre corporation …
@narfcake
Because Truth In Naming.
Makes them at least Mediocre in the realm of trustworthiness.

@f00l Cats are jerks.
@Nitewatch Hence why I just stick with catshirts.

Cats may be jerks, but they strongly resemble Overlord Jerks.
Want. Want. Want. Can not afford… sigh.

@RDW0409
Set the shipping location to where you are staying on your vacation, perhaps?
@DVDBZN Italy.
Want, don’t need, we have a much better Nikon.
@excarnate Yes, Nikon and Nikon accessories.
@El_Oel actually I didn’t read that in your voice, Hank
@thekenya Lies.
I’m not a camera guy. Just want a point & shoot. This seems overkill for me. Or am I missing something?
@mike808 you’re missing lens flexibility and low light shots.
… And who wants to be seen with a point and shoot in this day and age?
@RedOak
Stupid people like me. Because I look even stupider trying to operate the DSLR I already own.
@f00l that’s what the full auto mode is for - if what to look cool, spin the dial to a different setting and then back to auto every few shots.
And if someone is standing close by, a few hold the shutter button rapid shots doesn’t hurry either.
@RedOak wow - I’d like to blame those auto-correct words on mobile, but hadn’t had my coffee yet!?!
@mike808
“CPB”?
Corporation for Public Broadcasting? Agreed, thugs they are.
Campbell Soup Company? (Their NYSE symbol). That wouldn’t make sense.
@RedOak
I need to figure out how to turn it on first. : )
@RedOak Lysdexia. My bad.
CBP - Customs & Border Patrol
No help with the margaritas on this deal, Meh. Pass.
Sorry, I have a Nikon D5100 I bought from Woot and almost never use. I don’t need another camera to almost never use.
I own a Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm lens.
What’s better about this one? Any experts around who know without looking it up?
@f00l nothing. The “i” cameras are nicer, and this is not an upgrade from the t5i.
T5i has higher ISO, more focus points and faster FPS for starters.
I’m not sure how far back you would have to go in the “i” lineup for this to be an upgrade.
@laydros pretty far back. Perhaps even back to the T2i according to the comparison link @HELLOALICE posted above.
BARELY A DISCOUNT? COLOSSAL FUCKING PRICE?! FUCK YOU AND MEH IT STRAIGHT TO HELL!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
@Dizavid
And all caps!
WHAT?! I CAN’T HEAR YOU!
Anyway @Dizavid, $65 isn’t “barely”. I mean, that’s 4 catshirts worth …
So can I shoot myself in the foot with this?
(Actual product commentary: two family members who do or have done photography for a living both like these cameras; both say the Canon Rebel “i” models are a decent choice for those who want more control and choice than their smartphone offers.)

@RedOak Appreciate the enthusiasm! Could I enquire as to the availability of some specificity to go with it?
Does this camera make phone calls?
Ugh.

Has Meh.com ever sold a good video camera for filming sporting events? I saw this has video mode, but I’m wondering if there’s ever been a better option?
I’m pretty meh about this. Got a Pentax 2 weeks ago from Woot. A lot to relearn about photography.
@rtjhnstn which one?
@username K-S1 - They are on sale @ Woot for $229
/woot pentax
Pentax K-S1 Body and Lens Kit w/16GB FLU SD Card for $229.99
http://electronics.woot.com/offers/pentax-k-s1-body-and-lens-kit-w-16gb-flu-sd-card-3
@rtjhnstn cool! I got a few pentaxie. What are those leds on grip for? Seems slightly unnecessary.
@username Completely, might as well ask why is it white w/key lime green accents
@rtjhnstn well different colors are fun, but if LEDs are useless, they might just make things worse in a photo equipment. say unnecessary reflection at night or something. oh well.
Haven’t used my meh subscription since they removed the feature to join in. I guess it’s time!
I’m on the fence, because it is a good deal for this particular kit, but I know I’d be disappointed in the end.
