Candy Corn Beer?
3It’s a thing at a Buffalo Creek Brewing in Chicago. Anyone had this yet? I doubt I can get my hands on this even from a bigger liquor chain.
Any other fun beer options out there that are a little more out there than your usual pumpkin flavored beers?

Abbott’s frozen custard chocolate almond stout
Yes, it is.
@ybmuG Widely available or regional?
@Targaryen it’s petty limited even locally. Tends to sell out quickly. It’s sold by Wegmans. Just don’t know if their stores outside of Rochester carry it.
@ybmuG I’ll check just in case but thanks for the info.
@Targaryen looks like they only sell in NY and parts of PA. Ohio coming soon(?) I do know the Abbott’s (they also make a vanilla cream ale) are Summer seasonal brews.
https://stoneyardbrewingcompany.com/ Wish I could send some (legally )
@ybmuG I had floated the idea of doing beers occasionally through Meh or maybe Casemates but I guess in the background beer is more troublesome to do.
Gross just gross
@CaptAmehrican I’d have to agree I’m not about the sweet beers. I’d try one just try though.
@CaptAmehrican I’ve never tried a flavored beer I really liked.
@CaptAmehrican @daveinwarsh What about Blue Moon w/ optional orange slice. That’s more of an outlier than the norm but I’m curious.
@CaptAmehrican @Targaryen Blue Moon isn’t one of my favs. I have put a lime in a draft Dos Equis Amber before & it was OK (with added vitamin C!). I’ve also tried a few German ‘smoke beers’ that were good.
@CaptAmehrican @daveinwarsh @Targaryen
…was surprisingly tasty.
Well in terms of limited and not entirely desirable, Lift Bridge Brewing has a mini donut beer that they make only for the Minnesota State Fair. This year they had to sell it in crowlers to go, however

My wife enjoys a beer that I’ve always described as taking a swig of water directly swallowed by a packet of watermelon Pop Rocks: Hell or High Watermelon by 21st Amendment.

My all time favorite sweet-ish beer, which is one of my top three favorite beers of all time is the Wisconsin Belgian Red by New Glarus. They’re best known for Spotted Cow, but this one is what really keeps me driving across the border (they only sell in Wisconsin, so you’ve gotta live in or near enough Wisconsin to drive to get it).

@guyfromhawthorn Props for the shout out to New Glarus. Their sour berry beer is made-for-BBQ perfection. I never leave the state without as much as I can haul back to last until the next trip.
@guyfromhawthorn Yeah see that’s the wierd stuff I enjoy trying even if I won’t like it. Life is too short to not drink wierd beers.
@guyfromhawthorn @Targaryen
Speaking of weird beers, I had a NOLA Brewery fast IPA with peach and it was delicious. Called “No Left Turn Unstoned”, I think.
I can do some flavored beers, even the occasional sweet one, but
/giphy no
I mean I’m only a only a few hours away but I doubt you could pay me enough to drive into Chicago to get you anything.
Let alone something that makes me retch at the mere thought of…
I don’t know you that well lol.
@unksol Nah I wouldn’t ask you drive anywhere like that anyway. Are you North of us? Are you going to be seeing any of possible snow?
@Targaryen what are you up to … Trying to pin where I am.
Chicago’s almost straight west. We get lake effect snow.
@unksol Since you said you were close and I was looking at the incoming weather at the same time I figured it was worth asking.
@Targaryen lol meh has my shipping address anyway. North east indiana…
Been raining all October. We get more snow than chicago usually. Depends on how the storm fronts blow over lake michigan
And temps…
And the jetstream
I belong to a home brew club. We do a group brew twice a year (although we’ve skipped the last two because of Covid) and everyone brings samples of their latest efforts to sample. Once someone brought a Candy Corn ale. It was a bright orange color and had a candy-sweetness. Let’s just say it was not the most popular sample at the gathering.
@macromeh I tried Sam Adams Jack-O Pumpkin Ale and Shiner’s Smore’s Beer recently and for some reason super sweet beers are just no good to me.
I’m generally not a fan of flavored beers, but this is my favorite exception:
@macromeh I am not sure about this exact one, but these usually just taste like fruit juice, which is alcoholically delicious!
@macromeh Lindemann’s Kriek.
Now that it is owned by InBev, it sees more US distribution than in years past. I’ve had the good stuff in Brussels.
@macromeh @mike808 I once bought bread from a man in Brussels.
He was six foot four and full of muscle
@macromeh @ybmuG
I was just visiting. I come from a land down under, where beer does flow and men chunder.
@macromeh @mike808 Were you travelling in a fried-out Kombi,
on a hippie trail, head full of zombie?
@macromeh @ybmuG How did you know?
Next thing I remember, I was lying in a den in Bombay, with a slack jaw, and not much to say.
@macromeh @mike808 Was that you? I said, “Do you speak-a my language?”
But you just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich!
@macromeh @ybmuG
Now you’re just trying to tempt me, because I come from the land of plenty.
@macromeh @mike808 yeah, but can’t you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover!
@macromeh @ybmuG
Can you hear the thunder?
@Targaryen I called this brewery, but sadly they only made 10 gallons of this, so it will be on tap only. My sister lives just a few miles from them and was going to buy me a bottle for Christmas.
@Trillian She can’t walk in with a crowler or anything?
This one was actually pretty good
@ELUNO … Ben and Jerry’s is my favorite ice cream. While I imagine it’ll be super sweet I’ll have to find this in a “make your own pack” somewhere so I can try one.
@Targaryen Sorry, but this was a couple of years ago, so I doubt you can find it anymore.
/giphy tease
@ELUNO Well that sucks maybe they’ll make another flavor sometime.
I tried Sam Adams JACK-O Pumpkin Ale the other night. It tastes like a pumpkin pie, so a little too sweet for me. Not as overly sweet as other but not my style at all.
Water. Yeast. Barley. Hops.
That’s it. Nothing more. Everything else is a crime against humanity.
@shahnm Unless the barley is malted first, you’re just going to wind up with some really weird porridge with that recipe.
@shahnm
Reinheitsgebot… gesundheit…
@shahnm I agree, though I think the barley can be replaced by wheat for a nice German Hefe.
ps… Yeast wasn’t listed because they didn’t know about it. They just saved beer to add to the next batch.
This sounds interesting -
“Good Morning. You’ve woken up dead. You’re in ruins. But don’t be discouraged. Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Only a few batches remain and they won’t last long. Claim your Dead before it disappears.”
@Kyeh Widely available?
@Targaryen I haven’t actually gone out looking for it, but it looks like it’s not.
@Kyeh @Targaryen
I use the term “wake up dead” in the ER a lot…
@chienfou @Targaryen Eww.
And then there’s this … https://content.kegworks.com/blog/walking-dead-beer-brewed-with-goat-brains
@Kyeh …I like to say I’d try anything but probably not this.
@Targaryen Yeah - just NO.
@Kyeh
As long as I know they have been pasturized… no need to get bovine spongiform encephalopathy from your beer!
@chienfou Isn’t that caused by prions? And aren’t they basically indestructible? shudder!
@chienfou @Kyeh Goats are not bovines!
@chienfou @mike808 No, but they can get chronic wasting disease.
@chienfou @Kyeh Yeah, it’s called “Freshman Year in College”.
And what’s your point?
@chienfou “Chronic wasting disease”.
@mike808
D’oh
Good one!
Another suburban Chicago brewery, Phase Three Brewing in Lake Zurich, made an Affy Tapple beer this year! We went to buy it on release day, but it was sold out almost immediately. The good news is, they made a second batch and are releasing it today.
https://www.phasethreebrewingshop.com/product/bushel-of-apples/144
Here are reviews, obviously I’m buying untasted.
https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/55985/512419/
@mossygreen Got it! Sold out in five minutes, while I was telling a co-worker about it. Felt almost like an IRK.
I’m kind of a beer purist. Like my coffee, I don’t want any contaminants in it. Recently tried this on a whim, totally expecting it to be awful or amazing, and was pleasantly surprised. It was a nice dark roasty coffee stout with a little finish of spice on it, and the pumpkin is there, but not in-your-face there. The candy corn, yeah, I’d try it, cause if it’s beer or coffee, I will probably try pretty much anything. It would probably be too sweet for me, but hey you never know til you try Thanks for sharing! I love a good beer thread
@kerryzero
Would that be the 7/8"-14 or 29/32"-14 or 5/8" BSP?

And…it des seem to be a very specific…ummm…admiration
