Caffeine
9Hey mehn and womehn of meh. I usually get my fix of caffeine when I happen to need it from an Arnold Palmer. But I thought about it and realized that most of you get your possible fix from coffee or something, leading to my question.
Q: what do you drink/eat/inhale/snort/inject for energy?
Follow up question: would you consider changing your "fix" for a while? What would you change it to? Heroin? Meth? Green tea? Mind cocaine?
@JonT that one was for you especially^

Mostly black tea with milk. After that, coffee with cream. No sugar in either.
I searched the mind cocaine thing to see what the inside joke was..
I think @JonT's right, isn't all cocaine mind cocaine?
Energy drinks, variations on espresso, regular coffee, hot tea, iced tea, iced coffee, guarana, colas, various legal prescribed-to-me controlled substances that dont double as street drugs, and anything else i come across that doesnt seem harmful and will give me a boost.
I am way too old (and wise, ha ha ha) to wanna mess with anything illegal and powdered.
Oh yeah if i could go back 30 years i would totally change to "mind" cocaine. For sure, no lie. I wouldnt want anywhere near that other kind of blow, no way.
I eat apples. Great morning energy boost...healthy...and they keep the doctors away as long as I throw them hard enough.
@studerc
@studerc i too prefer an apple over most forms of caffeine. I quit caffeine about 8 months ago. I like to have my apple mid afternoon to help me get through those last couple hours at the office.
I normally eat food for energy. And no, I would not consider changing that; starvation sounds like a terrible way to go.
4 (6 oz) cups of coffee(black) in the morning. Mid morning Yerba Mate steeped 3 times. 1 more cup of coffee or a shot of espresso after lunch.
Weekends are espresso in the morning and 1 more coffee(cold brew, Chemex or Vac Pot) in the afternoon.
I'd consider changing my fix to either children's strength meth or more sleep.
@bluebeatpete Don't worry, big pharma's got your back.
Chocolate. I would never consider changing my "fix" for a while. Why mess with perfection?
3rd wave coffee, preferably Ethiopian Heirloom. Hand poured (or high end specialty machine brewed) (although siphons really turn me on).
I have one of those bodies where, while life without coffee would be mourning, it does not keep me awake a night.
Would I change it? Not for all the tea in china. And for that last huge winning PowerBall ticket... well, everyone has their price. It might not have been high enough though.
Coffee with half and half or vanilla soymilk. My morning "mug" is a 1L pitcher.
Can't say that caffeine really affects me that much, though. I can drink a cup at night and still fall asleep.
Shouldn't that be Mehth?
@unksol yes: I suppose I should have remehmbered
Caffeine pills. 200 mg in the morning, sometimes another one a few hours later.
I used to drink 2 liters of diet soda each day. Sweeteners are bad for me. I've lost 40 pounds since I stopped the soda. In a study on mice, adding either sugar or artificial sweeteners to their food caused them to gain weight, as compared to mice with unsweetened food.
I wouldn't have the will power to give up caffeine. I was drinking Big K diet soda, which contains slightly less than 200 mg of caffeine in a 2liter bottle. Thus switching to a pill a day didn't change my caffeine intake, just my sweetener intake. At first I was breaking the pills in half and taking the second half later in the day. That didn't seem necessary.
So I've pretty much quit drinking caffeine recently, save for the occasional iced tea here or there with a meal. The other day I grabbed a Yerba Mate to try and before I was done I thought I was going to turn into the Great Cornholio.
Pretty sure when I drank Coke all day long I could have had a Yerba Mate before bed and not known the difference. Although it contains an astonishing amount of caffeine, over twice what Mountain Dew has.
Depends really. Oddly enough, water is the best energy boost for me. Lots of water. Coffee is my true love, though. In many forms.
@Thumperchick When my workday regularly started at 3 a.m. I was surprised to discover that simply drinking a bottle of water was as effective as caffeinated stimulants for me.
@jqubed but coffee is so yummers!
cappu or espresso
caffeine pills(dont take too many thought it actually has killed people in the past eating the entire bottle)

usually on my way to work, i stop for an XL(24oz) Tim Hortons double double(2 cream 2 sugar), then, on my first break, some form of energy drink.
at home, Tea. if we were in england, it would be called a "builders" strong brewed black tea, with milk and 2 sugars. or, if we have it on hand, a cup of New Mexico Pinion Coffee, (also with milk and 2 sugars).
it's Great Stuff, but the only place i've found it at a reasonable price is Trader Joe's(less than amazon, or direct from the manufacturer), unfortunately, the nearest Trader Joe's to me is around 100mi away....
@earlyre ohhhh tim hortons is amazing
Coffee, and every two years at the HOPE conference, a bunch of Club Mate.
@dashcloud
A link to 2600! Thx!
Coffee straight is my fav, but I can drink pop.
Non-caffeine user here (no coffee, not much soda (and generally non-caffeinated soda at that))
I drink a lot of water and eat well. Even with a toddler running around I normally have plenty of energy to get through the day.
Black Coffee. Diet Pills. Tea. Yerba Mate. Energy Drinks. Espresso.
Dabbled in the inhale-able caffeine... did not like it. Like any good junkie, I needed my ritual which is important to me as the end result.
No cocaine/meth b/c I am still career hunting and many places drug test. Also, I am poor.
Death Wish Coffee <3
@connorbush I bought a bag of DWC for our office and everyone was disappointed. I forget what's usually in the machine (some kind of espresso bean?) that we all felt worked better.
We'll get Vietnamese iced coffees (aka liquid crack) when we need an afternoon boost. I like these. They let me remind my heart that I'M running the show here.
@DaveInSoCal i prefer their valhalla blend by far
@DaveInSoCal http://www.deathwishcoffee.com/products/valhalla-java-odin-force-blend
Despite prev bravado remark, i quit most soda when i heard that about artificial sweeteners and insulin, and it's so acidic...sometimes i still have one.
Mostly my fixes are unsweetened now. And i sip not gulp. Gulping is for water.
And another vote for apples.
Don't do much caffeine, but love my sugar-added juice blends.
3-4 cups of coffee daily on workdays. 1 cup in the morning on weekends. If I'm going out Friday or Saturday night I'll usually drink half a 5-hour energy before leaving the house.
I find caffeine to be an unfortunate component of things I really enjoy consuming. I don't find it's any sort of substitute for the energy that comes from eating food; just good for making me jittery, and unable to sleep. Since I have a hard enough time sleeping, I ramp down pretty quickly during the week. Twoish cups of coffee when I get to work, then only black or pu-erh tea until noon, and nothing stronger than green after. When I get home, I'll usually pull a decaf espresso.
I drink a cup of decaf in the morning since I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine. It still contains enough caffeine to get me going.
I am sensitive to caffeine and am apparently "un-Amehrican" because I don't drink coffee--according to my father-in-law. I make a fruit smoothie every morning. About 4 months ago, I decided to include a 1/4 tsp. of matcha green tea powder. I made the mistake of putting in 1/2 tsp when I first got it, and I was on a caffeine buzz all day.
@mahoneyli the bee's knees
I make drip coffee in an ancient "Mr. Coffee Non-electric" maker or this really nice machinetta I found that works on my induction plate.
@radi0j0hn ahem

@radi0j0hn it isn't non electric but hey
I drink red bag Jacobs made in a corning percolator. If coffee went away, i'd drink Sundrop
