It’s Monday, most people don’t like Monday because it isn’t the weekend. How about sharing something about yourself? Tell us something good you’ve done recently. Try and brighten up Monday a little bit.
I allowed fire ants to have their way with me, because I’m a BAMF… or maybe because I didn’t see them. Why in the fuck do they even exist!? Jesus, I look like a leper.
@capguncowboy Watch out for cellulitis. I get that EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I get a fire ant bite. I hate those things too. And trying to kill them off is like wack a mole. Kill one mound and they just pop up 5’ away with a new home.
Hmm does it also count as “something good” if you prevented yourself from doing “something bad” to someone (aka a jury of true, actual peers would have called it justifiable homicide except that you restrained yourself and didn’t do it?).
I got up early, got dressed, and left the house every day this weekend (including Friday)! No all day Netflix binges in comfy clothes. A decision I find myself slightly regretting today.
@LeviOhPlz hmm with a flask that is kind of a given… you know this inconvenience of this thing called work and actually doing work at work…although the alternative of no work and not retired yet kind of sucks too
@Targaryen I’m not sure. It depends on what shows up in the list a lot of the time. I don’t tend to go into it searching for anything specific.
Recently (across various streaming services) some of the movies I’ve watched: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Unbreakable, Enemy, Tucker and Dale VS Evil, Jurassic Park, Coco, Please Stand By, Beauty and the Beast.
Any recommendations?
@LeviOhPlz … wow let’s see for movies: No Country For Old Men, Seven, Kubo and theTwo Strings, The Departed, any of the available Marvel movies (if you like that).
For TV: Daredevil, Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories, Black Mirror.
There are others I like these a lot of different reasons but I think these are ones you could definitely check out.
@Targaryen I’ve seen all the MCUs (multiple times. No shame). Seven and The Departed are definitely re-watchable. No Country For Old Men is on the list now. Kubo has been on my list for a long time. I’m trying to convince my kid he’d rather watch something new with me than the same handful of favorites. Lol. We both really enjoyed Mary and the Witch’s Flower. You’d think he’d trust me!
I’ve seen up to season 2 of Daredevil so far. I need to catch up on that, Luke Cage, and Agent Carter still. I’ll see what’s up with Midnight Diner, but I’ll pass on Black Mirror.
I am trying my hardest to write a thank you note a day at work. I started this about a month ago and trust me, it is way harder than it sounds. I have missed my goal a few times already.
@ConAndLibrarian Reminds me of back in the day they’d have us make Valentine’s Day stuff for people in our class and you’d start running out of stuff like: “Dear Billy… nice shoes.”
Yesterday I agreed to accompany a friend to a doctor’s appointment she’s afraid of tomorrow. Saturday and Sunday I took the dogs to Doggie Swim Day and dragged them seperately into the pool to practice swimming (with me right there in the water in case they had a problem), even though my back was out and it’s very painful to move, much less control two excited 110lb dogs. But I had a blast so I don’t know if that counts. I do little kindnesses all the time, drops in the karmic pool, but rarely big gestures.
@sammydog01 luckily the market is still good in my industry… previous place had budget issues… that and poor management…i had been planning to leave… it just was sooner than planned
What is there to be low about? You have a job with us, you’re trying to improve yourself, and from conversations it sounds like you’re heading in the right direction for success. Believe in yourself a little more.
@RiotDemon Seems to be a theme here in the forums, people not murdering other people and such. Anyway, whatever the issue you’re awesome! Don’t let anyone tell you different.
@moonhat unfortunately, not really. I’m dealing with a family member’s medical issues, so unless they can get a new body, or a lot of money to pay for stuff they need, I’ll just have to deal.
Being a caregiver is really hard sometimes. I went from being independent to a caregiver in a very short span of time. It’s mentally taxing some days where I just want to absolutely give up. I just feel so helpless.
@RiotDemon I can imagine that would be a really tough role to slide right into. Especially quickly. I give you kudos though for doing it! You totally rock, RD.
@RiotDemon It can be really, really hard to be a caregiver. You are dealing with not only your emotions about what is happening to the person, they are leaning on you for support you sometimes can emotionally struggle to give and then you have to totally change how you spend your days dealing with all this stuff, getting up to speed with a pile of medical shit, meds, and etc. Be sure to take care of yourself emotionally too. Take some breaks so you can regroup, can remind yourself that there is life outside of this mess (doing that is also important for the person with the medical problems to the extent they can do this), and sometimes it is worth getting health insurance to pay for someone to come in and do some of the stuff so all the load doesn’t fall on you.
@RiotDemon Don’t forget to take care of yourself! It sounds like life threw a curve. You can do it. We will be here when you need to vent, cry, cheer, laugh and everything else.
I replaced the hard drive on my daughter’s laptop today. The Geek Squad lady was very nice but said it wasn’t a job for a beginner. I showed her! I even think I got Windows loaded. Thank you @dashcloud- couldn’t have done it without you. And youtube people- I love you guys.
@sammydog01 I replaced a bad harddrive in a laptop. Wasn’t that bad. I toasted the motherboard two days later trying to play a game outside of it’s specs though. Oops. That wasn’t worth fixing.
@sammydog01@therealjrn Money that appears out of nowhere is always bad. It’s always some mafia guy’s money or some secret government plot. I watch movies I know what is going on.
@RiotDemon The hard drive was $50, but she recommended an upgrade to a $100 SSD. Installation was $40, Windows installation $100, and at that point you may as well get the annual Geek Squad plan which makes the service part free for a total of $300. The laptop cost at most $500 and is two years old. So I figured if I can’t fix it for fifty bucks I’ll buy a new one, bought the hard drive, and left.
She did explain that the laptop knew it had a licence for Windows 10 and I didn’t need a code, and she gave me some screws for the casing. (It only had 4 out of 9. I have no idea why.) The people there are usually really nice and helpful. It’s just their job to screw you out of cash.
The hardest part of working with computers at all is letting go of your fear. It’s a bit more difficult with laptops because of their compactness, but things like the hard drive, optical drive, and memory are meant to be easy to replace.
On a related note, we had a laptop that developed intermittent keyboard issues. I fixed that! By the time I was done with it, the issues weren’t intermittent as I had managed to tear the stupid ribbon cable.
I am gainfully employed and I have been for all of my adult life with a couple of weeks as an exception after getting married and moving to a new city with my wife.
Just to be clear, I am not saying this because I think I am better than anyone else. This comment spawned more from the feeling that I don’t have anything specific to say…
If I came across otherwise, I apologize. That was not my intent.
The days when I thought I had something to brag about are long, long in my past. Now I just look forward to the precious, rare days when I get out of bed without some new ache or pain.

ARE YOU KIDDING?!? I’M AWESOME!!! I MAKE ABOUT A MILLION DOLLARS A WEEK ON MY PODCAST AND I HAVE BEEN BANNED FROM OVER 200 SOCIAL MEDIA SITES!!! FIGHT THE POWER!!! VISIT MY STORE!!!
This weekend, I painted 200 wooden hearts as part of the guestbook for my sister’s upcoming wedding.
I was a jerk to people on the internet about something that happened in a video game that only slightly inconvenienced me.
something good? recently? i got nothing. i’m a horrible person.
@carl669 Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarl
@lichme Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiich!
there. there’s my good deed
@carl669 Nah you’ve still got time to do something good.
@carl669 How many people did you NOT flip off today? That’s something good, right?
@narfcake no people. but, i flipped off the barbell at the gym. does that count?
I allowed fire ants to have their way with me, because I’m a BAMF… or maybe because I didn’t see them. Why in the fuck do they even exist!? Jesus, I look like a leper.
@capguncowboy Agreed, fire ants are dicks.
@Kidsandliz I think that can work here.
@Targaryen OK then that. Well and feeding the feral cat mama and her babies.
I got up early, got dressed, and left the house every day this weekend (including Friday)! No all day Netflix binges in comfy clothes. A decision I find myself slightly regretting today.
@LeviOhPlz What were you thinking about watching?
@LeviOhPlz hmm with a flask that is kind of a given… you know this inconvenience of this thing called work and actually doing work at work…although the alternative of no work and not retired yet kind of sucks too

@LeviOhPlz
@LeviOhPlz @ruouttaurmind IKR??? Who in their right mind passes on Black Mirror??
@ruouttaurmind @RiotDemon I had friends tell me it might be damaging to my easily disturbed subconscious. Lol.
@LeviOhPlz @ruouttaurmind it’s not all cute puppies and kittens. Some of it made me sad, but I love the show.
@ConAndLibrarian to actual people, or to yourself / the universe?
@becca to actual people, I would have nothing good to say about myself.
I like to think that I try my best, but I just don’t know if my best is good enough anymore.
@Barney Your best is always good enough.
@Barney
@moondrake Thank you, I hope so.
@Barney Sometimes it’s impossible to please others.
@Targaryen I’m finding that out.
I got (and started) a new job.
@amehzinggrace Cool. Hope you like it, has a nice work environment and pays enough not to stress over money.
@amehzinggrace No more part time work at the saloon, huh? Hope your new job turns out to be exactly what you want.
@Barney i miss the saloon…i could at least drink on the job…lol
@amehzinggrace Congrats! That was pretty fast too, wasn’t it?
/giphy Congratulations!
@sammydog01 luckily the market is still good in my industry… previous place had budget issues… that and poor management…i had been planning to leave… it just was sooner than planned
I started casting on Twitch again recently, used to stream all the time back in college.
@FeralRants You gotta link? What games do you cast?
no
@woodhouse I double dog dare you.
@Cythwulf nothing people say shakes my self-confidence because it’s already so low that i’ve assumed the worst long before anyone calls it out
What is there to be low about? You have a job with us, you’re trying to improve yourself, and from conversations it sounds like you’re heading in the right direction for success. Believe in yourself a little more.
@woodhouse You have 164 points in fantasy football this week. I have 69 with one player to go. And that player is Golden Tate.
@sammydog01 i autodrafted got lucky lol
@woodhouse You get to brag about luck. I do it all the time.
@Targaryen “believing in yourself” isn’t a cure for mental illness, unfortunately
@woodhouse Alright, I’ll believe in for the both of us.
@Targaryen @woodhouse Me too.
I got some work done, I guess.
/giphy shrug
@Kawa You didn’t hold a door open for anyone or high five a random stranger? Nothing?
I learn sand attack today
@Zigzagoon Completely legit tactic. I know because I’ve had sand in my face before.
@Targaryen Perhaps you need to brag about whatever experience earned you sandface?
@ruouttaurmind Nothing special just remember as a kid doing something dumb and my mom trying to wash sand off my face.
I didn’t murder anyone. I just had a mental break down and cried instead. Cathartic, I guess.
@RiotDemon always cathartic! I hope you are feeling better? Is there anything we can help with?
@RiotDemon Seems to be a theme here in the forums, people not murdering other people and such. Anyway, whatever the issue you’re awesome! Don’t let anyone tell you different.
@moonhat unfortunately, not really. I’m dealing with a family member’s medical issues, so unless they can get a new body, or a lot of money to pay for stuff they need, I’ll just have to deal.

@moonhat @RiotDemon So sorry. I can’t imagine.
@sammydog01 thank you.

@sammydog01 I replaced a bad harddrive in a laptop. Wasn’t that bad. I toasted the motherboard two days later trying to play a game outside of it’s specs though. Oops. That wasn’t worth fixing.
@sammydog01 Yeah they would say that. Good on you for getting that done. Plus it saves you a good chunk of money.
@sammydog01 @Targaryen Is there ever such a thing as a bad chunk of money?
@Targaryen A $250 chunk of money.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn Money that appears out of nowhere is always bad. It’s always some mafia guy’s money or some secret government plot. I watch movies I know what is going on.
@sammydog01 lol, wut? How much was the harddrive?
@RiotDemon The hard drive was $50, but she recommended an upgrade to a $100 SSD. Installation was $40, Windows installation $100, and at that point you may as well get the annual Geek Squad plan which makes the service part free for a total of $300. I’ve started a new schedule to get up and out in the mornings. I have done so successfully for two weeks and one day.
@therealjrn Same here, the day feels different a little doesn’t it?
@Targaryen Yep.
I funded my retirement by buying a lotto ticket. When it wins I’ll be set.
I have nothing to brag about
Don’t get up, I will show myself to the door.
@mfladd Ahh, the humble brag…nice.
I am gainfully employed and I have been for all of my adult life with a couple of weeks as an exception after getting married and moving to a new city with my wife.
Just to be clear, I am not saying this because I think I am better than anyone else. This comment spawned more from the feeling that I don’t have anything specific to say…

@jst1ofknd Woo hoo, look at Mr. Fancy Pants with the paycheck and the job!
I finally got over my shyness and started playing Dungeons & Dragons.
@arielleslie Where did you find a campaign?
@compunaut There’s a game shop in my city that runs a (really busy) D&D night once a week that’s super welcoming to beginners.
@arielleslie
What city is that?
@compunaut Westminster, CO. There are shops that do it in Denver and Boulder too.
@arielleslie Cool. Have family in Arvada, Wheat Ridge, and Parker.
@compunaut Total Escape Games on Wednesday nights, if they’re interested.
The days when I thought I had something to brag about are long, long in my past. Now I just look forward to the precious, rare days when I get out of bed without some new ache or pain.

I will…tomorrow.
