@AGentleman I dunno about you, but I buy mine in 1/2 gallon growler jugs at the local microbreweries to bring home. If i want that extra ounce, all I need to do is pour... another glassful
@webender how do you take the fire home? do they put it in a fireproof container of some sort? do you get to keep the fireproof container? how much does the fire cost?
@conandlibrarian That's what i thought at first, but then the wife discovered chocolate martinis one night when we were out to dinner; now she makes chocolate, peach, or strawberry ones to sip out on the porch on summer evenings.
@conandlibrarian Putting a drink in a martini glass doesn't magically turn it into a martini. If it's not gin and vermouth, it's not a martini.
I will concede that substituting vodka for the gin (although I have no idea why someone would do that) creates what is commonly called a "vodka martini", but that it.
A Manhattan is not a "bourbon martini", even though it's a lot closer to being a martini than any fruity drink. It has it's own name, as those chocolate and fruity drinks should.
@craigthom I would be someone who wants to, and does, make the vodka substitution because the smell of gin makes me want to vomit. I drank WAAAAYYY too much gin one night many many years ago and still can't bear even the smell of it.
@AnnaB I understand. It was years before I could look at a Southern Comfort bottle without heaving, and I assume, even after thirty-seven years, I would hate the taste. If I'm lucky I'll never know.
I like good gin, though, especially on a hot summer day, when nothing but a gin and tonic will do.
Dunnage is cheap. I'm going to use the beer glasses for iced tea, and I hope your packers use bubble wrap. Blocking and bracing aren't necessary, though.
These are actually pretty nice higher end barware; I bought a couple sets last time. One of the martini glasses was broken in shipping, but i didn't complain since they are practically giving them away at $2 each. I'm in for 2 more sets.
I haven't ordered much lately, so apparently the Malevolent Order Name Generator has been saving some undulating-crude-jelly for me. No, just no. Instead I give you:
@craigthom Kinda same thought drifted past me. So why are these everywhere, overpriced, selling out; what's the appeal?
I love my french 3mm copper pots and pans, wish i had more. For mugs i usually go for vacuum insulated. When i see these gorgeous copper ones, i wonder who is using them for beverages. Then i feel clueless.
@f00l I think they are decorative. Some I've seen are even coated with plastic or something else to keep the copper from tarnishing.
I personally love the patina of oxidized copper, but I think I'm in the minority. I see copper counter tops scratched up where people keep polishing them.
Anyway, I think copper mugs are for placing on shelves or hanging from hooks, not for drinking.
@f00l they're the standard serving container for "mules" (most commonly the Moscow Mule). There are several camps of people arguing for whether or not you should be using uncoated copper for drinking or not. Either way they add a not-quite-unpleasant metallic twang to mules, which are heavy in citric acid. And yes, they are great conductors of heat and cold @craigthorn, but that adds to the enjoyment of sitting on a patio with a literally-ice-cold mug of drink - they don't last long enough to get warm.
@f00l They're the "proper" barware for a Moscow Mule. The thing is, the drink was invented by a copper barware seller peddling the mugs. No different than folks wantkng wanting martini glasses to serve martinis when they were all the rage (before the new "cool" drink came to town, the moscow mule).
If you're not a tragically pretentious dbag hipster, then copper mugs are not for you. Get a speaker dock instead.
@mike808 I don't really think passive name calling is necessary, but whatever. No more ridiculous than wine, pint, martini, highball, etc glasses. God forbid someone want a nice looking bar area. Don't worry, I also keep red solo cups and walmart tumblers around just in case.
@f00l Meh, it's mostly just for show - as you said, they're nice looking if nothing else. But sometimes it's fun to change it up from whatever normal glass or plastic tumbler I'd normally use.
@rambopandabear Except most of those are functional. Stemware, like wine and martini glasses, allows drinks to maintain temperature without body heat warming them up. Pint glasses don't break easily. Rocks glasses are low and balanced.
If appearance wasn't an issue with any of them, then a double-walled insulated glass would be good for everything, but with copper mugs nothing but appearance counts. There's nothing functional about the design.
@OldCatLady I have granite countertops. My glassware is long gone, my Pyrex mixing bowls are broken, and my Corelle is greatly diminished. My plastic cups just bounce off. I love plastic.
Got the old fashioned glasses and they came with a big fragile sticker on the box and plenty of packing which meant they actually made it all the way from Texas to Boston in 1 peice!
Nice Job Meh - my order arrived alive. No shards- no broken promises.
I do not envy the sweat-shop you call a shipping department - individually wrapping each glass then putting all that Texas air in the little bags - Nice job.
My beer glasses also arrived in perfect shape. The glasses were wrapped in paper, put into their carton, the carton was bubble wrapped and taped, then the whole thing was overpacked into another box with lavish amounts of Texas air (unpunctured), and properly closed with packing tape. Good job, folks!
Unfortunately my glasses arrived unbroken. How am I supposed to get a refund if nothing is broken? I suppose I could lie and say one or two were broken, but then I'd be too ashamed to drink from the ill-gotten barware. As for the Texas air comments, I'm not adventurous enough to break open the little packing bubble bag thingies to see if they smell like cow shit, so I'll just trust that they are filled with genuine Texas air. Nice job with the packaging, meh. Please try not to be so careful in the future.
Each martini glass was bubble wrapped and placed in the display box and then there was plenty of the new green (Novus green air cushion) air pillows around the display box all of which were in a meh cardboard box. There was no motion within when shaking the box before opening.
ok the texas air units were supertubes that seems to be what novus calls that pattern... and while looking at the cool machines I found a giant air pillow...

my glasses! where are my glasses?
Need 2 martini glasses, ordered, hoping at least 1 breaks and I get my 2 free martini glasses
Who buys a 15oz glass for 16oz of beer?
@AGentleman I dunno about you, but I buy mine in 1/2 gallon growler jugs at the local microbreweries to bring home. If i want that extra ounce, all I need to do is pour... another glassful
@AGentleman Haha, signore, that IS a 16 ounce beer. Elegant glass, no? They make it right here in Italy. That will be six euros.
Bormeholi Rocco
@thechinglish Cornholio Bar Stare?
Meh, If I want new glassware, all I have to do is throw a dime into it at the Fire company carnival.
@webender how do you take the fire home? do they put it in a fireproof container of some sort? do you get to keep the fireproof container? how much does the fire cost?
So I just ordered a set of each of these like a minute ago and would you believe there was a broken glass in each set. What are the odds, right?
Great write up, after reading that you would refund for a broken one immediately thought people would just break one.. Kept reading and laughed.
Would like to see the financials on this in a week or so
I want the martini glasses, but can't for the life of me imagine a single time when I would use them.
@conandlibrarian when you want a kangaroo, but instead call it a vodka martini?
@conandlibrarian That's what i thought at first, but then the wife discovered chocolate martinis one night when we were out to dinner; now she makes chocolate, peach, or strawberry ones to sip out on the porch on summer evenings.
@conandlibrarian Make Manhattans.

@conandlibrarian I want the beer glasses, but can't for the life of me remember a single time that I had used them.

Officially drunk while ordering this. I hope this means drinking terribly naked a come back.
@DrunkCat Go home, @DrunkCat, you're drunk. What were you trying to convey? Autocorrect really got you.
@DrunkCat Not sure your order went through; better submit it a few more times just to be sure.
@DrunkCat I bet drinking terribly naked would get more views than the old series... well I guess it depends on who was naked....
Dunnage is cheap. I'm going to use the beer glasses for iced tea, and I hope your packers use bubble wrap. Blocking and bracing aren't necessary, though.
@OldCatLady Star for "dunnage"! I learned that word during the shipping fiasco of those double-walled ceramic travel mugs a year or two ago.
Bore me, Ole.
These are actually pretty nice higher end barware; I bought a couple sets last time. One of the martini glasses was broken in shipping, but i didn't complain since they are practically giving them away at $2 each. I'm in for 2 more sets.
I'm in for the 9.5 Old Fashioned. Looks like they would make great glasses for morning OJ
@chuckf1
Well I feel a sense of honor and duty so I am in for some double old fashioned bar ware
Bottoms up!
"Ask yourself if there's some other way to make eight bucks that doesn't involve broken glass in your house."
buys glasses

gives child one martini glass
hears glass shattering, child screaming
heads home to enjoy 3 free martini glasses and sweet, sweet vengeance
ripe-immaculate-observation
I feel blessed to have found this deal!
How long do these keep drinks cold?
@nadroj You should drink your drink fast enough that doesn't matter.
Surprised you didn't pull that pink neon skull out of the Vault for this item…
It's not a clock, but I'll grab a set of old fashioned.
Glasses --good deal ---bar none ??
I haven't ordered much lately, so apparently the Malevolent Order Name Generator has been saving some undulating-crude-jelly for me. No, just no. Instead I give you:
@OldCatLady
Oh my
@OldCatLady I think you've used this one before. You can't have run out of new pics yet?
@Thumperchick I must not have marked it as 'used' in my file. I'm so embarrassed. This one is new, though.
@OldCatLady nice substitution.
@OldCatLady
My my my
Need to drink, cant wait for smartpost.
My bracket so far:
1st day 97%
2nd day 37%?
3rd day 10%
4th day to start soon.
Booze now.
See ya at the bottom!
Ordered an old fashioned set just to validate having VMP this month. Meh - if you're listening, how about some copper mugs?
@rambopandabear
Someone tells me why copper mugs, hammered or unhammered, are all the rage?
Yeah, they're v pretty, love the look of copper, but beyond that, what's so special? Why are they a hot item?
@f00l Copper is a good conductor, which is the last thing you want for a beverage you'd like to stay hot or cold.
@craigthom
Kinda same thought drifted past me. So why are these everywhere, overpriced, selling out; what's the appeal?

@rambopandabear
@mike808
@craigthom
I guess i have terminal lack of panache. For me, anything that's safe, clean, and holds liquid will do.
@mike808 I don't really think passive name calling is necessary, but whatever. No more ridiculous than wine, pint, martini, highball, etc glasses. God forbid someone want a nice looking bar area. Don't worry, I also keep red solo cups and walmart tumblers around just in case.

@f00l If it has a hole in the top, it works for me. Unbreakables are kept for the use of small hands.
@OldCatLady I have granite countertops. My glassware is long gone, my Pyrex mixing bowls are broken, and my Corelle is greatly diminished. My plastic cups just bounce off. I love plastic.
@sammydog01 i too get drunk out of sippy cups
The 15.25oz beer glass was just what I was looking for! Good timing meh!

@ioBuddha the box says 4 pieces, looks like you got a bonus.
@ioBuddha go to meh.com/orders and under this order, hit the "I need help with this" button.
Got the old fashioned glasses and they came with a big fragile sticker on the box and plenty of packing which meant they actually made it all the way from Texas to Boston in 1 peice!
And I take it back, i put them in the dishwasher and noticed that two of the rims were broken...
@MrMikenIkes no take backs!
Nice Job Meh - my order arrived alive. No shards- no broken promises.
I do not envy the sweat-shop you call a shipping department - individually wrapping each glass then putting all that Texas air in the little bags - Nice job.

My martini glasses all showed up in one piece... I realize now what the magical packing difference was from previous glass shipments...
stickers.
more information...
Each martini glass was bubble wrapped and placed in the display box and then there was plenty of the new green (Novus green air cushion) air pillows around the display box all of which were in a meh cardboard box. There was no motion within when shaking the box before opening.

I've bought the beer glasses and the double old-fashioned twice, they are very nice for the price.
My glasses were pack exceptionally well.
