Well I was really hoping for an alarm clock to show up again one day. But god this one is so ugly. I hate the small display. Still, I'm so tempted to get it...
@RedOak Thanks, probably a good estimate. I saw the 2.75", but my nightstand is rather crowded...trying to decide if it makes sense. Have a small iHome speaker clock with one USB port. Never realized how handy that USB port would be! But no dock and no Bluetooth on the thing.
@JonT If you find out that'd be great! I'd like one if it's not terribly bulky.
needs to do more things like project the time up on the ceiling have my first beverage either hot or cold whichever i prefer and also speak to me in 6 languages other then english can I have that clock?
@saodell Me either. I set my Hue bulb in my nightstand lamp to do a gradual increase during the winter in the mornings. Works great! It's so hard to wake up when it's dark...
@saodell Sure, if you are naive enough to pay MSRP like the 'relevant' comparison suggested on the manufacturer's website. It would be as dumb as paying sticker for a new car.
@deafinoneear I suspect it would work if you set the alarm on your phone to play the Bee Gees and then just left the clock in bluetooth speaker mode. You'd have to turn it off or snooze it on your phone instead of the clock. The added bonus I suppose is that may be harder to do in your sleep on your phone than on your clock, so it may be more likely to wake you up (although I eventually got to where I could turn off my phone's alarm without looking at the screen, so I started using an alarm clock app that makes me do math to turn it off).
I tried rigging my own sunrise alarm with a bunch of smart lightbulbs and not so smart apps. Fuckers at 1% illumination scorched the back of my retinas. So I set them up as porch lights, the light reflects off my across the street neighbors windows and shines back into our house, still wakes up everybody . I don't think I've ever had them turned on higher than 10% strength.
@nostrom0 They are the worst! When I lived in Savannah, I'd be forced to see my neighbors house across the street with the front lights on as I was stuck in the dark.
@nostrom0 You probably don't need this answer anymore, but I'll leave it here in case meh decides to try and sell this horribly buggy item again:
It does have a AAA battery backup. BUT it only works with the clock and NOT the alarm settings. So it's possible that you could lose power, not realize it, and have your alarm go off at 12 am with default settings instead of whatever time/settings you had programmed.
Bem speaker quality is very good. I have the Bem 2.5" cube speaker, sounds great for its size, paid $40 at Costco for it, so I'm tempted to buy this, oh what the hell, I'm buying it!
@HELLOALICE it "does" but in reality it absolutely does not. Unless the sun where you live only takes 11 seconds to rise in 3 distinct brightness levels.
Meh, I'll pass. Some of the reviews say full functionality requires the remote and I'm constantly losing small remotes. That and I don't trust it to be loud enough to wake me.
@marvelljones Remote is REQUIRED for most function. There are buttons on either side of the unit to turn on/off light or audio, and switch audio input. You must use the remote for everything else:
setting the time setting the alarms tuning FM stations changing nature sounds turning off the sunrise alarm
We have a Philips 3520 that was way more expensive than this. I do like it, but it has no speaker functions and the controls are awkward. But I think it has significantly more light, the only figure I could quickly find is 300 lux which doesn't necessarily translate to LED wattage but I think it has more than a single 1W LED. Considering this as a night light/reading light/speaker dock for my side of the bed, though.
If this light is bright enough, waking up to "sunrise" is a good thing. It makes me feel more refreshed and less sluggish in the mornings.
@RedHot I'm waiting for the day when I read "Glenn included." It will happen. It will. (And oh the crappy product they could move, linking it with Glenn.)
Where does the phone rest?? Where is the built in, but mostly inaccessible unless your phone is streaking, lightning port? I think you are trying to wean me off speaker docks. But it's not working!
Can I use this to fall asleep to the built in nature sounds and wake up to music from my phone? I have a Conair nature sound doodad that's giving up the ghost but used to put me right to sleep on the crashing waves setting.
@alokem I'm having the same problem. I got the white model. From what I've read it looks like it's supposed to start at the volume it was set to most recently, but for me the alarm goes to full volume every time. That's too loud, so if we can't figure this out then we can't really use this as an alarm.
Stupid alarm clock. If I lose the remote, I'm screwed. Who thought that was a good idea to put 99% of the functions ONLY on a 3 inch remote. My kids will lose it in a week.
Sound: Great! (For a small box) Alarm: Good. Woke me up. Snooze: I don't think it worked. Features: Horrible.
I have a feeling this product wasn't thought out too well as 90% of the features must be accessed through the remote.
Fortunately, I am using the Sony Clock Radio/Speakerdock from Fuku 2 as a TV speaker. I will switch out these as I think this would be a perfect speaker for a tv and the Sony would be a perfect clock radio.
Unfortunately, as decent as the sound is, I would have to give this only one star for a clock/radio.
Anyone else having problems charging their phone? I have an iPhone 6 and when I plug my lightning cable into either of the two USB ports it will charge for about 30 seconds, then give me the "This Accessory May Not Be Supported" pop up. Then it quits charging.
@brianbrianbrian Yep - having the same exact problem. Trying to get a replacement shipped from BEM but they want me to pay for shipping the defective box in. WTF
@stevenspatz Oh really? I contacted them as well and they also offered to replace mine, but I've been busy and haven't responded. I'm definitely not paying to ship this junk back to them. Its fine I guess... I gave up on the sunrise timer (a joke) and basically just use the radio to wake up to. I just wish it wasn't the size of a double wide. Truly a meh product.
Sorta sucky. Alarm comes up to max volume, can't set limit. Light comes on RANDOMLY, I think this may lead to divorce... Sound effects stopped working, like, completely. Radio works, sounds ok for what it is, but I'm almost ready to throw it in one of the kids rooms whenever I ground them. I do really like the clock display. I replaced a Sony Dash with this...doesn't even auto set the time like the Oregon Scientific I got here. This is sold at The Sharper Image, so that says a lot about why it sucks this much. At $150 no less, hahahahahaha!
@mhuckstepp Same thing. Also, the light randomly turns on, sometimes in the middle of the night. It's making me pretty stabby. I've emailed customerservice@bemwireless.com . We'll see what happens.
This thing is AWESOME. Ever since I plugged it in, I've gotten to experience random bouts of blinding noon time daylight in the middle of the night. It's helping me through my anti-torture training as a B6-13 agent. Also, I really like the 'remote buttons randomly change functionality' feature. It helps me work on my rage issues when I'm trying to turn off the light after waking up my wife (who didn't want me to buy this in the first place). Pushing down on the light to snooze the alarm doesn't turn the light off, which came on with the alarm. You have to be coherent enough to poke the light button on the side of the thing or find the right button on the randomizing remote.
As other users have noted, the usb ports are designed for those that like the look of usb ports, but not actually using them. To the eyes they are awesome usb ports but they are relatively non or barely functional.
@marklog I do have a small snake neck LED light attached to one of the usb ports for more directional reading light, that works great...until the big light randomly comes on. Every night since I've had this, I've been elbowed in the rib by my wife. Wonder if I can bring a lawsuit against Bem for medical bills once my ribs give out...
What a waste of money! The alarm stopped working after 2 weeks. Tried to call bem wireless to get the 90 warranty replacement or fix -- but you just get dumped into a voicemail box that is full. Trying to contact meh.com now.
I agree that it kind of sucks, I guess we got what we paid for. I haven't tried out a lot of the features, but I really hate that you have to use the remote for setting most things and that the radio alarm comes on really loud with no ability to set wake up volume. Meh!... Sound quality not bad though
@robson For $27 I could have bought an alarm clock that works. Instead I have an alarm clock / radio / bluetooth speaker that doesn't reliably work and likes to randomly wake me in the middle of the night with blinding light.
Oh, and if you lose power, the clock is on battery backup but the alarm setting isn't. So yea, my alarm has twice now been reset from 7 am to 12 am without me noticing. Yay.
I hate it so much I broke it! Got so frustrated trying to set a new alarm with shitty little remote I threw it on the bed, it bounced off and hit the dresser and then bounced on the floor! Now display is all fucked up and the light doesn't work. What a miserable piece of shit, it's now in the trash. I literally should have thrown away $27. Wish I'd never ordered! It truly sucks!
@Thumperchick I e-mailed them and they have offered to replace it, but someone else on here said that they wanted us to pay for shipping etc. to send it back. Not sure it's worth more $$ and the hassle, especially since it seems that they're all poorly made.
@Thumperchick They are happy to send to me a replacement. All I have to do is send them them my own buggy, terrible clock back to them with my own money,
Oh, and they tried to punt me to off to the reseller (meh.com) at first. It took two emails just for them to even deal with it. And meh.com pawned me back off on them too.
@Ayanami same thing here. They didn't like either my suggestion to show before and after photos of it destroyed, like vacuum cleaner and coffee maker companies, or send me a pre paid shipping label even if i paid their shipping rate. Half the cost of the pos...I don't think so. I'll take it apart and use the Bluetooth streaming and speaker functions for some other project.
So far mine has worked OK. All the sounds seem to work, and the sound quality via Bluetooth seems pretty good. I have gotten used to shutting off the alarm with the remote, even though it is a bit of a PITA. I have had a few times where the light randomly comes on, but happily not in the middle of the night. Like others said, the USB ports are useless, but I didn't buy it for those. My biggest complaint is that a clock should actually sort of, you know, keep time. This thing seems to lose 2 or 3 minutes a week. It's easy enough to correct the time, but it is still is annoying that it has to be done.

looks like a pretty good deal
@dilkathrens Or is it?!
@dilkathrens that's how they get you. And before you know you realize it you bought another speaker.
@Aldro With 2 usb charging outlets and an aux in, it's a stealth speaker dock!
Meh...... I need that super loud alarm to come back
Saw a stereo and really hoped the writeup was going to be translated from Korean.. was disappointed..
where is the lightning port to dock my device?
@communist at the other end of your USB cable.
looks like a speaker dock lunch box cooler clock
@somf69 Great idea -- could keep cold beers in there handy.
Well I was really hoping for an alarm clock to show up again one day. But god this one is so ugly. I hate the small display. Still, I'm so tempted to get it...
Alarm clocks really tick me off.
Does it have a snooze button??
I found my own answer on bem's website.
"Push button top for easy snooze and device control"
@kadagan Yes, see page 2 of the posted manual for a diagram.
What are the dimensions?
@JonT Am I missing this somewhere? I checked Amazon, the manual, and the manufacturer's website...I know I'm tired but...
@mediocrebot ?
@Zypher afraid I don't know, I can find out for you later today. @Moose may chime in with an answer too.
@Zypher If we assume those "2.75 inch" speakers are on the front, I'd guess it is 9 or 10 inches wide.
Sharper Image:
Length: 10 Inches
Width: 4.63
Height: 5.13 Inches
Weight: 3.6 Lbs
@Zypher the Sharper Image association is not confidence-inspiring.
@RedOak I measured it this morning and was going to post, but @Zypher beat me to it with the dimensions from Sharper Image. Those are accurate.
needs to do more things like project the time up on the ceiling have my first beverage either hot or cold whichever i prefer and also speak to me in 6 languages other then english can I have that clock?
@sp3ar The question is "Can you afford her?"
Idk about this... I get stabby as fuck when the birds or the sun wakes me up. Meh.
Relevant price comparison: $149.99 on BEM's website.
http://www.bemwireless.com/sunrise
@Zypher Sunrise alarms are all super expensive. Not sure why.
So I suppose you want me to throw my Oregon Scientific Clock Radio in the trash and buy this now...
@eVil I thought about buying that...I liked that the numbers were orange...
@eVil actually i plan on doing this so i hope it works out
So just so we're straight here:
One cannot use the bluetooth connection with the alarm to wake up to the Bee Gees, right? That's a deal breaker to me.
@deafinoneear That's a selling point for me. I hate it when the Bee Gees wake me up. Much prefer the Monkees.
@deafinoneear You could if you wanted to. You can set the alarm to be BT, buzzer, FM, or nature sounds.
Wasn't there an episode of Northern exposure where the trees were making noises?
Adam the barefoot chef/CIA operative was somehow involved.
Is there a battery back up? Georgia Power drops the ball regularly
@nostrom0 They are the worst! When I lived in Savannah, I'd be forced to see my neighbors house across the street with the front lights on as I was stuck in the dark.
@nostrom0 Owners manual shows a battery backup compartment. (2 x AAA's)
@RedOak That's great it's AAA's. Clocks always want to make you buy button cell batteries for backup...
@Ayanami Good to know, thanks. Essentially useless as an alarm clock then.
Bem speaker quality is very good. I have the Bem 2.5" cube speaker, sounds great for its size, paid $40 at Costco for it, so I'm tempted to buy this, oh what the hell, I'm buying it!
@UncleMel Can somebody compare the sound quality coming out of this BEM to the JBL Mini speaker dock sold here?
@UncleMel I'd also be interested in a comparison if you have one of the JBL's.
"Each alarm will last 2 minutes."
That's pretty damn optimistic. I've slept through fire alarms before. Thems better be really loud-ass birds.
Eep, the light doesn't have gradual brightness? Hmm, think I'll pass.
@HELLOALICE it says in the specs that it does
@HELLOALICE it "does" but in reality it absolutely does not. Unless the sun where you live only takes 11 seconds to rise in 3 distinct brightness levels.
Should work fine for charging your phones, but don't be expecting a fast charge of your tablet. 2 x 1 Amp USB charge ports.
@RedOak Speak For yourself. My phone is slower to charge at 1A then my Tablet. (Fortunately I can use a quick charger 9V 2A).
I don't need this. Hopefully it'll be sold out by tomorrow afternoon. That's normally when I cave in.
Is it really a bluetooth speaker as well so I can pair it with my phone to play music of my choice? or just an alarm?
@gauravgoyal yes, BT speaker as well.
All you people with your big words better stop with the jibbah jabbah before I get busy with my fists.
Oh, yeah, in for 1.

@mtn3pitt Velcro it is, then!

If this light is bright enough, waking up to "sunrise" is a good thing. It makes me feel more refreshed and less sluggish in the mornings.
I've been planning on replacing mine anyways, as only one of the 2 alarms on my current clock can be changed anymore. kinetic-miserable-parakeet

@mtb002 try what?
@RedOak
The light/bird sounds as an alarm as opposed to music. What did you think I meant?
$149.99 at Sharper Image guyz... WHAT A DEAL!
lofty-large-robin
@troy the Sharper Image association is a good thing?
@RedOak Not at all, just nostalgia. Used to love that store when the internet wasn't much of a thing!
@troy and those original catalogs. Yep.
@Glenn is never included :-(
@RedHot I'm waiting for the day when I read "Glenn included." It will happen. It will. (And oh the crappy product they could move, linking it with Glenn.)
@RedHot However, on the positive side, Glenn is easy to make at home.
Where does the phone rest?? Where is the built in, but mostly inaccessible unless your phone is streaking, lightning port? I think you are trying to wean me off speaker docks. But it's not working!
I want the sock puppet.
Can I use this to fall asleep to the built in nature sounds and wake up to music from my phone? I have a Conair nature sound doodad that's giving up the ghost but used to put me right to sleep on the crashing waves setting.
@TerriblyHuang Yes. There is a sleep timer for nature sounds.
ungrateful-freaky-sushi
Time to replace my ancient alarm clock-radio that I have been using since middle school!
Did I meh this? Yes.
Did I then come back a few hours later and buy it? Yes.
@thebrowncoat Same here - will soon find out if the meh was correct or not
sparse-herbivorous-thief
@marklog
I should have bought 3 wow
When the alarm goes off it cranks the radio up to 30. Anybody figure out how to change the volume of the alarm?
@alokem I'm having the same problem. I got the white model. From what I've read it looks like it's supposed to start at the volume it was set to most recently, but for me the alarm goes to full volume every time. That's too loud, so if we can't figure this out then we can't really use this as an alarm.
@sdd Yup. Always comes on at 30. Is that a bug or a feature?
@alokem Same problem. Like @alokem said it should start at the last set volume but doesn't seem to be the case.
Stupid alarm clock. If I lose the remote, I'm screwed. Who thought that was a good idea to put 99% of the functions ONLY on a 3 inch remote. My kids will lose it in a week.
@jamielynne I've noted the same thing. I'm thinking about attaching the remote to the radio (velcro?) so that I don't lose it.
@densa Try hot glue...
@densa you could attach a zip-pull cord, too.
Nice unit with a lot of features, but it's much bigger than expected and tuning the radio is a pain in the Ass!
@wildrice7 that's what she said.
2 usb ports, however if 2 devices plugged in only one charges? Meh indeed...
@jnowotny could it be that one is a tablet needing the 2 amp type? otherwise definitly agree that sucks.
I didn't get a remote with mine so i can't cahnge the time or anything. fuck you this sucks.e
@McNair sounds like the remote is small enough to be missed - double check and we'll resolve as needed
I have to admit...this product is perfectly meh.
Sound: Great! (For a small box)
Alarm: Good. Woke me up.
Snooze: I don't think it worked.
Features: Horrible.
I have a feeling this product wasn't thought out too well as 90% of the features must be accessed through the remote.

My nature sounds stopped working....All the other features and audio modes still work. Anyone else experienced this?
@mhuckstepp Yup, same thing.
@mhuckstepp Happened after 2 weeks.
@mhuckstepp Like clockwork mine stopped playing nature sounds

Bump for THIS THING SUCKS.
Has anyone had any luck calling BEM and getting warranty service for their alarm/radio?
@Thumperchick I e-mailed them and they have offered to replace it, but someone else on here said that they wanted us to pay for shipping etc. to send it back. Not sure it's worth more $$ and the hassle, especially since it seems that they're all poorly made.
@brianbrianbrian In their reply to you, did they ask for shipping, etc.?
@brianbrianbrian Yeah, i don't know if i care enough to actually go through the RMA process.
@brianbrianbrian Yup they want me to ship their buggy clock on my own dime as well.
@Thumperchick They are happy to send to me a replacement. All I have to do is send them them my own buggy, terrible clock back to them with my own money,
