@Atomizer@yakkoTDI The stars are all one color because the’re all from the same laser emitter. The nebula projector has an optionally-moving multi-hue image.
I recently received mine that I ordered a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it, the colors are great, the soft movement is wonderful and trippy and relaxing. Set up was basically plug in and turn on.
However, I can’t use the app, because it’s not compatible with the latest version of Android (14). I’ve sent an email to support, with no response yet.
I’m not sure I can do all the configurations without the app. But honestly, the default settings are pretty amazing. Absolutely worth the 20 bucks.
@pennypenny I agree with you that the Blisslight is a fun device. I just wanted to add that the app works fine on an iPhone running the most current version of iOS and has some great additional features such as a sleep timer and the ability to save customized modes.
@pennypenny the .apk file should work for your Android device. We didn’t have this link the first time we sold these but it’s in the specs now! Also here
@pennypenny I completely missed/forgot that there’s an app for this! My kids have been using it with just the buttons on the side, although typically they prefer the default mode.
We have one each green and blue, I prefer the latter. I will have to try the app tonight!
@pennypenny@troy I was able to load the apk but after I search for the device and it displays it as found… It stops. I can’t click on it or anything. If I back up it doesn’t see it. I have to start over and same thing happens with my Pixel 7 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23. Any advise?
@jestertech I’m just going to pull out one of my older, out-of-service phones, and use it as a remote. I’ll access the home wifi to grab the app and load it.
@alacrity Have you thought about taking it to a star party? Everyone else will bring their lame telescopes but you will bring thousands of stars and a nebula! You’ll be the hit of the party!
If this had a speaker and the projection could change (like dancing) with the music, it would be really cool. I still wouldn’t buy it, but it would be cool.
@macdeth I haven’t noticed any sounds at all from my unit…perhaps one of the gears in yours is slipping or something? Not sure how mechanically/electrically savvy you are, but disassembly and maintenance of this device is pretty straighrforward. It’s sensibly constructed inside.
I love mine, it’s well made and the effects are very nice. The whole unit is simple to operate and simply constructed, to the point that it would be easy to open it up and repair it if you ever had to. The laser diode itself has a good sized heatsink on it as well, and the optical lenses inside are ground glass, not plastic.
EDIT: Props to whomever gave us the APK link in the description!
In for 1. Maybe another tomorrow if my kid thinks her boyfriend would like this for his dorm room.
I’d love to use it in our bedroom, but my hubby has vertigo and I’d hate for this to trigger an episode. Does it always move or do you have to set it that way? If it was still, it might be ok. If not, someone in the family will find a use for it.
Don’t mean to be a damp squib here, but the Amazon link indicates there’s a newer model, which is priced from $20 to $30 right now for cyber Monday, depending on which one you choose.
I like the form factor and color of this one more, the new version is a white sphere. But it’s a refurb of a discontinued model.
@ACraigL The Apple blurb is so on-point it hurts lmao, I get their ‘Shopping Event’ emails even though I haven’t used an Apple product regularly for over 10 years.
@PyGil If you sideload the older version of the app (it’s in the item description on this page, near the top), you can turn off the timer and the unit will run continuously.
I bought this last time it was up to use on the boring, white room divider that hides my messy guest room/office when I’m on work calls. I get compliments all the time! Setup was easy and the app works well on iPhone. As others have mentioned, I like having options but end up using the default setting most of the time.
I’ve got this weird, huge room with 14’ ceilings. It has been the PERFECT nightlight for it, and yes it’s a bright enough for the job when set on the floor.
I’m happy with mine. The spread is a bit annoyingly wide, so I added an extension to the not long enough cable to place it above my head, and higher ceilings would be beneficial here. It’s a bit bright to really be left as a nightlight, but my toddler will look up and say “stars”, so yeah - it’s cool. Haven’t bothered with the app, but the buttons are simple enough.
Oy. I’m losing it. Cruising through the spamflood (it’s that time of year), I see a Meh order confirmation that I don’t remember. Hmmm. Clicky. Huh. Did I do that? Uhhh, yeah. I musta been half spaced. It’s for one of these things, which I’d thought would make a good gift for a friend of mine, but I completely forgot that I did it, almost immediately.
Looking at the order number, I see that the system knew what was up at my end.
superfluous-hesitant-oregano
Yeah. Oregano. Same stuff the jerks used to try to pawn off on the noobs as weed back in high school. (It was the 1960s, most of the kids didn’t actually know the difference yet.) (They thought I was a narc, so I never got invited to that kind of activity.)
Anyway, as usual, I was just natcherly out of it, no imitation substances involved or required.
Hokay, ramblings over, nothing to see here, move along.
I received mine yesterday and decided to try it out before wrapping it up for my granddaughters Christmas gift. Well, guess I better find her a new gift. Love it.

Only blue stars? What about the other colours?
@yakkoTDI The stars are created via a laser, and there’s a green version (that I prefer) as an alternative to this blue one.
@Atomizer I want all colours all the time!!
/giphy colourful stars
@Atomizer @yakkoTDI Looks great if you have a black ceiling…

@pennypenny you can’t side load the apk?
@pennypenny the .apk file should work for your Android device. We didn’t have this link the first time we sold these but it’s in the specs now! Also here
@troy thank you! I just checked my email and had received the link from the manufacturer as well. Installed, and everything seems to work!
@pennypenny I completely missed/forgot that there’s an app for this! My kids have been using it with just the buttons on the side, although typically they prefer the default mode.

App? Ohh. <goessearching>
@PyGil gaaaa now making fool of myself. I’ve never experienced doing a sideload bla bla bla apk bla bla bla

Are BlissLights legal in Florida?
scored this last time it was up- IT IS AWESOME.
what’s really cool is that it can be powered by a power-brick which makes it portable and can be placed anywhere.
I am waiting patiently for a thick, viscous ground fog.
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
@alacrity Have you thought about taking it to a star party? Everyone else will bring their lame telescopes but you will bring thousands of stars and a nebula! You’ll be the hit of the party!
@tweezak kinda need a ceiling for it to be appreciated in full and a star party is averse to that.
Whomever wrote that blurb? Chef’s kiss now back to the good deals. I like mine.
If this had a speaker and the projection could change (like dancing) with the music, it would be really cool. I still wouldn’t buy it, but it would be cool.
Fine, I’ll buy it already.

I ordered this last time around. If you use the rotation mode, there is a subtle yet maddening ticking noise. Otherwise fine.

@k4evryng You can turn the rotation off to make the projected image static (non-moving).

@robson well poop.
Now i don’t know what to do…cancel or just go with this one…
Maybe since Meh said they look pristine, they are not actually refurbs, but discontinued stock?
@robson I’m wondering about this too. Anyone know how the models compare?
@n8mack33 @robson the $20 model on amazon is cloud only, no stars.
@n8mack33 @zippyus @k4evryng
I sort of split the difference and went with the green star one.
People seem to like these in the reviews, so I went off those.
And yes the $20 model is cloud only. You get to choose!
Sorry guys, just thought you should know your options.
@robson Yes, I saw that too. But the older model has much higher ratings (4.6 vs. 4.3).
Speaking of light shows - this is astonishingly beautiful!
@Kyeh That’s a lot of lights…
How long until some hooligan comes along and smashes all of them, or the HOA orders her to remove them?
@xobzoo
Just wanted to say, brilliant write-up today. Shots fired!
@ACraigL yep, I came to say that write-up was on point too. The independent tech product hurts because it’s true!
@ACraigL Who says there’s no truth in advertising?
@ACraigL The Apple blurb is so on-point it hurts lmao, I get their ‘Shopping Event’ emails even though I haven’t used an Apple product regularly for over 10 years.
Purchased one for my grandson a few weeks back. Paired it to his iPad and it works great. Nice effects.
got one last time it was for sale – for sure a cool item.
Ordered one for my kid for Christmas and tested it out ahead of time. Really cool little light, worked great.
Also got one last time- MrsNews loves it, and might even use it at one of her musical gigs. It’s trippy & fun. Well worth the 20 bucks…

Y’all got me with your generic reviews. One more item to put under the tree down.

I’m not buying a laser light show machine or whatever, but I sure did enjoy reading about it today.
@806D2701 Grins from the gallery are free!
I think you meant to say “It is Mehday”.
@phendrick It’s also extremely Monday.
I do wish it didn’t have an automatic off after 6 hours “feature” with no other option, but it’s overall rather blissful.
@PyGil If you sideload the older version of the app (it’s in the item description on this page, near the top), you can turn off the timer and the unit will run continuously.
@PooltoyWolf thanks. now I need to figure out how to pair the thing. I may have done gone tossed the package and papers.
@PooltoyWolf oh crappola. It’s too old for my android. Forced to use the newer app. Phooey and boooo.
@PyGil You can sideload the old app using the link in the description at the top of this page! Message me if you need help.

@werehatrack I’m still an oregano user (never broke the habit).
Casemates missed a chance to have Cider Monday, though! They’d probably have made a sale to me.
@Kyeh Maybe they will have a Sparkling Tuesday tomorrow. I need some bubbly for the upcoming days.
Mine arrived in the mail today. Much better than expected. Looking forward to staring at this after some m__________.
