@boygenius1991 if you like to slice your fingers on poorly engineered blades for pleasure, that is your own deal. the rest of us will go the safer, more awesome route…
@Glucose The coolest bit - they were based 30minutes from me so all I had to do is drive to their offices. They’ve got a really cool building. there’s a big blender blade under you running when you walk in.
@boygenius1991 unless the smoothie is thick, and then you have to remove the lid and risk the bladed axle of doom falling out, rolling cross the counter, and taking off a few toes.
@Glucose mine was from costco. I returned it and got a Vitamix which for my needs is equivalent to a Blendtec. I’d take either one over the Ninja because of the indiana jones and the temple of doom deathtrap design.
i sold these things for years- there ain’t a better machine out there for the money, period. Sure, you can get fancier or prettier but you’ll replace those 3 times by the time this one toasts out. And best i can recall, the price here is $7 less than we bought them for from Blendtec.
Had one of these; the jar plastic is soft and became clouded due to abrasion in less than a year. Was only making veggie smoothies, but do not want to consume plastic, BPA free or not.
@stevebopp If you’re an adult trying not to consume plastic, you’re too late. The incremental difference, if there is any (I suspect the clouding is from impact, not abrasion) is arguably not meaningfully measurable (more than 15 orders of magnitude below Avogadro’s number). And you would have to be putting substances harder than the plastic into your blender for that to happen (knock molecules of plastic off the surface).
You should be more worried about the Flouride added to your water than the plastic from your blender, if that is even actually occurring.
@MehnofLaMehncha Volvo has made cars with five cylinders for years and they’re just great. The fifth side on the jar makes good physics sense and the results cannot be argued with, it blends far more consistently than any other blender I’ve ever used.
@jbartus Yup. Lowest odd-number sided polygonal extrusion with all obtuse inner angles maximizes turbulence and minimizes harmonics from establishing a standing fluid wave/flow within the blender.
For as often as I use my Ninja, I’m down to about $5 per smoothie now. On top of ingredient costs. I’d rather rent the one at Smoothie King, just sayin’.
With a blendtec or vitamix, you can eat the entire pineapple core instead of throwing it away. At $3.99 per pineapple, with the core making up 10% of the volume, you’re no longer throwing away 40¢ per smoothie. So at list price, those things pay for themselves in three years. Sort of. If you drink a lot o’ smoothies.
(By the way, saw Lot O’ Smoothies open for Phish back in '84.)
Blendtec is the best!!! Costco offers them during the Christmas season, and they sell out… for over $400. I have one, and bought for my Dad, otherwise I would grad one for sure . The motor is fast enough to break the food down for the best absorption, etc, etc. It does more than make smoothies; you can make hot soup, too. It’s worth every penny!
I bought one when meh sold them back on August 1. Last week I used it for the eleventh time, so it obviously hasn’t become part of my regular routine. But that eleventh thing was a Grasshopper and it was, by far, the best one I’ve ever made. With previous blenders they were always liquidy and had chunks of ice. These were perfectly blended and had not a single discernible piece of ice. It’s too bad that’s the only blended drink I make. I really need to start using this thing more.
This is a great blender at a good price. I’m not gonna get one because I have a Vitamix (which works about as well) but there is no substitute for one of these high end blenders. Once you’re used to them you’ll never want to go back to a crappy normal blender again.
I’ve got this blender and it works fantastic. Among the high end blenders, one of the features I like most is the blunt edges of the blades. Not having to worry about stabbing or cutting yourself every time you stick your hand inside is a huge advantage right there.
@compunaut OK, I see you’re getting off on this for some really odd reason. But it’s actually a safety feature of this blender that they promote and I think is a valid benefit. Check the link and scroll down to Safety Blade.
Tye best of the best as Motley Crue sang about it in Wild Side. My Ktec is 10+ years old, used daily and is still problem free. GET IT NOW at this price. And F VitaMix…
@snyggraff now that I’ve fully realized that your reply to your own comment indicates you were apparently being sarcastic, I’ll just say that there are indeed differences between the two. Personally, I am not a big enough smoothie (or whatever) snob to notice said differences. But the texture of the stuff you end up with from a Vitamix is ever so slightly different than what you get from a Blendtec - especially in soups. But as I mentioned above, if I had a need, I’d buy this in a heartbeat. I pretty much make a smoothie daily and that’s the majority of my needs for a blender, so really, although it’s a religious war to some, either one would serve me well. I just happened to get a good deal on my Vitamixes, and I honestly like their motors a bit better. (But I think that the Wildside jar is MUCH better than the older/taller Vitamix jar - to the point that I’ve considered buying a Wildside XR for the best of both worlds with the VM I keep at work.)
@pburkej thanks for bringing that up, it was interesting reading and really just reaffirms for all the fact that the Wildside jar is not just some gimmick but is in fact grounded in engineering and science to the point that a leading name in the market couldn’t come up with anything equivalent or better.
Love this blender! I use it 2 -3 times a day making breakfast and dinner smooties and juices. It’s gotten to the point where my family is begging me to stop and seek professional help, but will i stop? NO! Now shut up and drink your smoothie before daddy gets mad!

Mixing things up - for a blended family
@AttyVette This blender is Lou Reed approved.
Wasn’t Wild Side from the Lego movie?
@MehnofLaMehncha Nope. That’s WyldStyle.
http://en.brickimedia.org/wiki/Wyldstyle
ninjapro’s cheaper and you get more attachments. meh
@boygenius1991 Yes but I have thrown two of them away because they broke on me. Ninja pros cannot handle simple frozen strawberries.
And black and decker is cheaper than Milwaukee.
@boygenius1991 @cengland0 You’re both doing it all wrong. Ninjas don’t handle frozen strawberries. That’s what the wife is for. Duh.
@boygenius1991 The ninja also gives you a tower of razor sharp blades that falls out every time you try to pour a smoothie.
@Dweezle that’s why you keep the lid on. that’s what that little plastic door on there’s for, so you can pour without that happening.
@cengland0 this exact model I had the engine blow on me, with frozen strawberries, juice, and. Little spinach.
They replaced it (no questions asked) and upgraded me to a $430 model
@boygenius1991 if you like to slice your fingers on poorly engineered blades for pleasure, that is your own deal. the rest of us will go the safer, more awesome route…
@boygenius1991 But Oster is the cheapest of all!
@Glucose The coolest bit - they were based 30minutes from me so all I had to do is drive to their offices. They’ve got a really cool building. there’s a big blender blade under you running when you walk in.
@Glucose that seems like a rather poor choice, blending your customers has got to be bad for business!
@Dweezle that’s why I returned mine 2 days after buying it.
@zippyus Did you get an awesome upgrade?
The one they gave me is so much nicer
@boygenius1991 unless the smoothie is thick, and then you have to remove the lid and risk the bladed axle of doom falling out, rolling cross the counter, and taking off a few toes.
Just call me stubby.
@Glucose mine was from costco. I returned it and got a Vitamix which for my needs is equivalent to a Blendtec. I’d take either one over the Ninja because of the indiana jones and the temple of doom deathtrap design.
Yeah I was just thinking at near midnight, you know I could really use a $200 blender.

@mike808 thanks for articulating what I could not.
It’s been 10 minutes and no Blendtec vs Vitamix shananagins?
@russellwilde
I know, right?
@russellwilde Which one would you use to blend a shillelagh? Shenanigan-ey enough for ya?
@mike808 I wouldn’t blend shillelagh I’d use it to smoke meat.
@russellwilde Still smokin’ the haggas, are ye?
Absolutely not something I need or want to spend $200 on. Meh.
Five sided jar
How’d the five cylinder engine work out for Audi?
@MehnofLaMehncha Volvo has made cars with five cylinders for years and they’re just great. The fifth side on the jar makes good physics sense and the results cannot be argued with, it blends far more consistently than any other blender I’ve ever used.
@jbartus Yup. Lowest odd-number sided polygonal extrusion with all obtuse inner angles maximizes turbulence and minimizes harmonics from establishing a standing fluid wave/flow within the blender.
It’s Science!
@mike808 “it’s science, bitch.”
Volvo: #23 in reliability. Right after Kia. Below Fiat and MG.
But their upside: radios come pre-set to the local NPR station.
So gimme an even number of cylinders, por favor.
@MehnofLaMehncha Volvo engines have been reliable. It’s the electronics around the rest of the car that’s shitty.
@jbartus GM had an inline-5 in the first generation Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon/Isuzu i-Series/Hummer H3 for a while too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_Atlas_engine
Honda made an i5 also.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_G_engine
As did M-B.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM617
@MehnofLaMehncha What @narfcake said
@narfcake yeah I know, I just know Volvos tend to last foreverish and have those five cylinder jobs so I used them as a convenient point maker.
@MehnofLaMehncha Audi/VW started making the 5 cylinder engines in the late '70s. I will get back to you when they stop making them.
Great blender worth every cent. The $10 extra I spent last time is well worth it for the extra time I’ve gotten to enjoy it between then and now!
If I didn’t already own two Vitamixes (one for work and one at home) I’d be all over this…
@bakerzdosen What about camping? Don’t you need one for your car?
@therealjrn ha, I have this blender in my camper.
Tonight I’m wearing my Mr. Rogers Cardigan.
For as often as I use my Ninja, I’m down to about $5 per smoothie now. On top of ingredient costs. I’d rather rent the one at Smoothie King, just sayin’.
Keepin’ it Meh, folks.
@mike808

@MehnofLaMehncha …do I want to eat the pineapple core, though?
@mike808 Trip to Smoothie King? Ain’t nobody got time for that
/giphy nobody got time for that
/giphy oof blend smoke don’t breathe that.

Noticed the Costco demo sample people all use blendtec these days as well

Power greens at Costco with coconut water. Banana, apple little basil, little cilantro ice and blend away…

@SSteve it makes a mean smoothie
@jbartus a grasshopper IS a(n) (adult) smoothie!
@jbartus Yeah, I need to start making those.
@chienfou I am aware, I meant real smoothies though. Fruit and health and such!
This is a great blender at a good price. I’m not gonna get one because I have a Vitamix (which works about as well) but there is no substitute for one of these high end blenders. Once you’re used to them you’ll never want to go back to a crappy normal blender again.
Let’s be honest here it’s a Blendtec with a WildSide for less than $200… just buy it.
… oh and get VMP… great value!!!
@cshillaber That’s a rather spartan review. Are you tired this evening?
@cshillaber a shill review that’s 100% accurate and not at all nonsensical, what have we come to!?
@jbartus It’s a 38-star (on a 1-5 scale) review. Give the shill a break!
I’ve got this blender and it works fantastic. Among the high end blenders, one of the features I like most is the blunt edges of the blades. Not having to worry about stabbing or cutting yourself every time you stick your hand inside is a huge advantage right there.
@alextse Why in heaven’s name are you sticking your hand inside a blender?
@compunaut Ah, that’s the point. I don’t have to worry about it.
@alextse It’s also a huge advantage to avoid getting hit by a car if you don’t sleep on the street
@compunaut OK, I see you’re getting off on this for some really odd reason. But it’s actually a safety feature of this blender that they promote and I think is a valid benefit. Check the link and scroll down to Safety Blade.

We bought two of these last time they were offered, one for a sister-in-law’s birthday and one for ourselves.
Great blender. Much better than either the old Oster or the Ninja. Killer deal at this price.
If you’re on the fence at all, just go ahead. You won’t regret it.
Tye best of the best as Motley Crue sang about it in Wild Side. My Ktec is 10+ years old, used daily and is still problem free. GET IT NOW at this price. And F VitaMix…
Will It Blend?
The first place I go when I think of Blendtec.
For those of you too young to remember - the original Bass o Matic blender ad!!!
3 hp. That’s like, a third of a Citroen 2CV engine. I’m not used to seeing kitchen appliances with multiple horsepower.
My Vitamix can blend cylindrical vortexes around a Blendtec any old day. Vitamix is the OG of high-power blenders, everybody knows that.
@snyggraff Blendtec vs. Vitamix=Hatfield vs. McCoy of the kitchen appliance world…
@snyggraff now that I’ve fully realized that your reply to your own comment indicates you were apparently being sarcastic, I’ll just say that there are indeed differences between the two. @snyggraff Vitamax lost a court case for infringing on Blendtec’s design patents, so while Vitamax might be the older company, those original gangsters are not above stealing like…gangsters
@pburkej thanks for bringing that up, it was interesting reading and really just reaffirms for all the fact that the Wildside jar is not just some gimmick but is in fact grounded in engineering and science to the point that a leading name in the market couldn’t come up with anything equivalent or better.
I just bought one.
@The1
/giphy applause
I want to know if the Blendtec will blend a Blendtec.
@Thumperchick That would start a chain reaction that would destroy the universe.
@SSteve Until Chuck Norris showed up and put an end to it with a roundhouse kick.

guess you shouldn’t put mead in a blender
Love this blender! I use it 2 -3 times a day making breakfast and dinner smooties and juices. It’s gotten to the point where my family is begging me to stop and seek professional help, but will i stop? NO! Now shut up and drink your smoothie before daddy gets mad!
How tall is this blender? I want to know if it will fit on my shelf when not in use.
@Durago 7" wide x 15" tall x 8" deep
@Moose “That’s what” – He
Of course they put this up for sale the day after I buy a Ninja from Woot.
@FatNinja
@FatNinja send it back!
Having bought the immersion blender on Monday and now this, it would seem that I have some pretty far-ranging blending needs.
I couldn’t resist. satirical-callous-otter
I learned my lesson from buying an expensive juicer but I’m glad these sold out. I don’t like when my friends hurt.
I’m sad there wasn’t a product test video today.
