Blender help!
3Dear meh!
Today my Kitchen Aid blender went up in smoke trying to make gluten free banana muffins, my kids’ favorite. It could never blend more than 25% of the jar capacity. It lasted a number of mediocre years, I even replaced the coupling once. I’m in the market for a much better replacement. If I’m lucky, the Blendtec Wildside deal will circle back around soon. I can justify the splurge by telling myself I can save $$$ by making baby food for #4, who will be here in a few weeks.
I’d be happy to get blender suggestions from the community. In addition to the non-working KitchenAid blender, we also have a magic bullet that stashed away in a box somewhere. It was sent to live in the basement since it was only capable of making 2 tbsp of baby food at a a time before it clogging up.
Thanks, your the meh-st!

If you want the best, you want a Blendtec deal or a Vitamix deal. JIC Meh takes a while, you might wish to check slickdeals.net and run a daily search, or setup a notifier auto-search.
You can also get historical pricing info there. And lots of comments…the mostly good, also the bad, and the ugly.
@ilovecincinnati If you have Marshalls or TJ Maxx stores around it may be worth checking. I’ve read on slickdeals of people getting Blendtecs for $99 there.
@djslack TJ Maxx has an online store also. Free shipping ($89>) and free local returns. http://tjmaxx.tjx.com/store/index.jsp
Aww, I thought you were going to ask about 3D modeling software… Then I was mistaken, being confused between a blender and a mixer, so that’s no help, either.
@atannir I, too, was playing the “blender or Blender” game when I clicked the link.
I love my Vitamix and would recommend it in a heartbeat (I haven’t tried other high-power brands like blendtec). If my batter/smoothie/etc. isn’t wet enough the bottom portion blends but it doesn’t suck down the top layers, especially if I increase speed too quickly. Whatever blender you get, maybe try recipes with more liquid in them, or pulse, stop, use pusher, repeat until blended?
@HemlockTea vitamix sets the bar
@HemlockTea the Blendtec Wildside Jar greatly remedies the issue described
I walked away from conventional blenders and went to the stick about 10 years ago and haven’t looked back. Anything my blender could do, a good stick blender will do…and then some. Good luck and woohoo! New kitchen appliance coming to your house! I’m kinda jealous
. Hubby hasn’t brought me any new kitchen toys in years. But our anniversary is coming so there is hope
Congrats and blessings on new baby too!!

@sarahsandroid that post was bringing me down, let me send you some Meh. stuff? your husband sounds like, well never mind about that…
@Yoda_Daenerys
.

Why did it bring you down? My husband is a lucky duck (I think anyway). How many wives would get excited and not offended over kitchen tools? LoL.
For our 10 year anniversary he surprised my with a new kitchenaid mixer. I was more excited to break it in than I was when we got our new truck when I was still driving OTR with him.
I’m a geek…but I still bake bread and anything else he’s brave enough to try
But I’ll take more meh stuff too

vitamix is solid, all around
My wife loves our Ninja. Also uses the included attachments for mixing dough and using it as a food processor.
I got my Blendtec (sans Wildside) from Meh a while back and LOVE it. I hated finding little bits of ice in frozen margaritas made in my previous blender (KitchenAid- good riddance), and the Blendtec just pulverizes ice and just about anything else you put in it! Been thinking now and then of buying the Wildside pitcher but it ain’t cheap- prob won’t splurge until I’m totally convinced the different would be worth it.
mixing batter in a blender seems counter productive why aren’t you using a mixer or a food processor? Blenders do liquids and slurries well but batters are gonna kill most blenders even Vitamins as evidenced by the number of reforms around.
I use my KitchenAid stand mixer for batters and doughs. It never occurred to me to use a blender. If you want good appliances, get @narfcake (who brags about KA bowl lift mixers for $35., a Breville Smart Oven $15, and InstaPot pressure cooker $11) to take you thrift store shopping. I keep looking for bargains like that, but what I come home with is clothes. I already have too many clothes.

@OldCatLady Alas, my “good” blenders are Kitchenaid also! I’ve purchased others before, but they’re already inferior to the KA.
The only time I’ve seen something better was a very old Vitamix that was marked $149.99. It sold before I even left the store.
@narfcake Is this supposed to make me feel better about my pitiful thrift store scores? I mean, we know it’s @sammydog01’s fault, but it really rankles.
@OldCatLady Sorry! My point was that I’ll be unlikely to find a good blender even here in SoCal.
Also, great finds aren’t always common. I leave empty handed at least half the time and with no more than a t-shirt or two most of the other times.
@narfcake I have a terrible urge to hit the local stores tomorrow morning. Then of course there’s Goodwill Online: http://www.shopgoodwill.com/listings/listByCatFilter.asp?catID=64&ending=Items
@OldCatLady I tend to make a round on Caturdays also as several of the stores have 30% off everything before noon and the half-price color changes at the local Goodwill.
As for shopgoodwill.com, no Woot shirts, limited Animaniacs and Powerpuff stuff … but there is a Blendtec at $270 right now – only $80 higher that meh! Also there’s no “thrill of the hunt” and no “unexpected finds” when it comes to online shopping.
@OldCatLady I had no idea this even existed.
Now I must quickly forget.

@narfcake Thrift store junkies are hooked on the thrill of the hunt. To be fair, there is a store about 10 miles away which I had to stop going to. How much antique silver, designer wear, upscale cookware (boxes of Pampered Chef stuff), brand new luggage, Danish Modern furniture from the 70s etc. can one person use? The Red White and Blue chain http://redwhiteandbluethriftstore.com/ is like crack. I ration myself to once every couple of months.
