Having a senior moment on staff names so I lost my mind and couldn’t remember who I should really be directing this to.
Can’t click on the calendar thing today it’s showing that I haven’t clicked it but it’s showing the image already and of course the screen is got all the irk messages on it again anyway so I think the page is broken can you fix it so those of us who are still trying to click the stupid meh button everyday can click it
Haha oh wow, I tried to find some specs on this (I have an older, yet perfectly functional furnace, that has a 2 wire connection, which isn’t compatible with all digital thermostats) and…erm. Wow.
@brainmist That said, if anyone has tried this and also has only 2 connections, lemme know. I can’t use most semi-smart thermostats. And I need to replace.
Wow one of the reviews said you have to use the app, you cannot program the thermostat from the unit. That is a nope. Thank you for the link. I was trying to find the manual but now I think I do not need it. I have a programmable thermostat (with buttons) now and it is fine.
@brainmist Problem is power. You can buy a 24VAC (or likely DC) wall-wart and power the thermostat from that. I offer no opinion on whether you should (and certainly whether you should in this case)
@brainmist I don’t believe I have ever seen a product with a 1.9 star rating. I was even nervous about allowing the scripts from their website to load on my browser.
Just noting that 20% of internet traffic is malicious and 95% of that is generated by hacked Internet of Things (IoT) smart devices. Non-secure, unsupported IoT stuff should not be allowed on one’s home network.
@thechinglish I own some of their older battery tools that have served me well, even more so now with a Lithium upgrade. The circular saw was almost useless on NiCd. Good news is you can pick up more tools at thrift stores for a few $$ ($5 reciprocating saw is great on 20V lithium).
Dollars to donuts this is powered by Tuya Smartlife.
Help teach the Chinese AI. No, seriously, Tuya is an AI company that appears to have made a home automation platform as a way to get paid to collect training data.
From a product longevity standpoint, once the AI is trained will the cloud service be profitable enough or will they switch gears and brick all the tech or require monthly fees?
It’s good to remember Tom Edison’s contributions to the smart home; thank you, Meh.
He never could keep the clocks in his factory synced but that was actually due to the unreliable WiFi they had back then. He was truly ahead of his time.
When I was first handed a Samsung phone that had a button to wake up Bixby, I immediately peeled off the protective case, completely removed the Bixby button from it, and filled the cavity with epoxy to prevent foreign objects from turning it on by accident.
Allegedly, my current phone is supposed to be Alexa-compatible-ish. Happily, Alexa does not live here. In theory, our new thermostat (part of the complete new HVAC system that we ended up needing) has an app. but the thermostat head has never been trained to connect to our wifi and its own default wifi settings are megagibberish now. The number of advanced features in use ius precisely zero.
If the Talkie Toaster shows up around here, it will require forensic analysis to find evidence of that fact.
Yes, we’re both IT professionals in our own ways. So is my brother. None of us have any love for “smart home” crap.
The mere fact that a techno-thing thing is possible does not make it a good idea, or even a reasonably tolerable one, and most particularly not when an “expert” has been bribed to issue statements assuring that adequate safeguards are in place.

I’m too tired to figure out how this works or if it’s a glitch.
I’m looking for the irk.
I take it back. I think I’ve forgotten when Meh was fun.
@gertiestn I think we have mid life crisis meh currently.
@gertiestn @seraphimcaduto Meh-life crisis?
I would just like to see a thermostat that says 73 degrees.

@Cerridwyn Fixed!
So you get one year free electricity? That’s what I heard
Haha oh wow, I tried to find some specs on this (I have an older, yet perfectly functional furnace, that has a 2 wire connection, which isn’t compatible with all digital thermostats) and…erm. Wow.
Yikes

Gimme one Margarita I’m gonna open up Meh…
Black and Decker? Sorry, but if they want me to use their garbage shït, they’re going to have to pay me.
@thechinglish How I feel having invested in their shitty yard tools.
That approach is only effective when purchasing substandard electric vehicles. The government then pays you to do that.

@ergomeh @thechinglish I moved to Ryobi, which seem better built, so someone may be benefiting from my old B&D.
I’ll take any over the hassle of dealing with gas-powered.
C wire?
Can’t we use the C word on Meh anymore?

Throw in Hue compatibility and you’ve got yourself a deal!

@sligett Or behind.
That write-up was so forced, you should’ve scrapped the idea halfway through if you read what you were typing.
Can it make a margarita?
Yes, if you plug in a margarita mixer into the outlet.

@werehatrack Yeah, all full of nope on this one.
