Best Online Meat Company?
2I swooped up one of those T-Fal Opti Grills on Woot! today.
Any good suggestions for bulk meat delivery service? Would I be better off going to Costco or Sam's club? Are there good online meat companies? Coupon codes. Suggestions? Horror stories?
Budget friendly is good too!!!

buy a cow (or part of it). we found a local farm via eatwild.com. best beef i've ever had in my life. we paid about $760 for close to 120lbs of beef.
if that's not an option, i'd go the costco route.
@carl669 RANDOM and awesome! There is a bison vender in my town!!!! Two blocks from my office lol! I guess I could try some bison?
@connorbush
Does the vendor sell actual bison, or just the meat?
@FroodyFrog I'm not entirely certain! It also seems their ranch is in northern California. Maybe it is their corporate hq that is near my place of work.
@FroodyFrog darn. Their site was hacked and replace with a Cialis advertisement. They do not sell animals, just meat, eggs, and dairy.
@connorbush You're in SoCal, right? Maybe Lizze out over in Chino?
@narfcake Many thanks. I will go here the first Saturday in Feb!
Never tried it myself, but some coupon blogs I follow have said good things about getting meat from Zaycon. Supposedly real high quality in bulk at a decent price. Downside is that you have to order days/weeks/months in advance and pick up your box of meat at a specific time and place, assuming they even have a delivery point anywhere near you.
@Turken ah they do have delivery within 25 miles of me. I will investigate pricing.
por-...
oh you mean like cows
@Lotsofgoats ha!!!!
Definitely not a bulk meat delivery service, but if you want to get a fascinating array of meats to try on a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis, check out Carnivore Club.
They also have a one-time purchase option.
I got it for someone, and they loved the box (I did it back when they ran an IndieGoGo campaign).
@dashcloud Thanks for the heads up. They are cured meats. I am looking for raw meat. Still, intriguing. Thank you.
I have been gifted the Omaha Steaks and they are Amazing!! We really enjoyed it
@Foxborn strange. I read so many poor review of Omaha steaks!!! I wanted them to be great and they have so many good deals. Perhaps I will go in on it for a one time deal?
@connorbush I've gotten it gifted for 2 years for chirstmas I enjoyed, and I think the last large box I got from them had a couple of extra's
Find a one time great deal and decide yourself ;)
@connorbush I bought a gift from them once. My sister said she enjoyed the steaks but the company spammed me to death. I got tons of emails, regular mails, and phone calls from them. I had to move to get them off my back. Never bought from them again.
@hallmike I've read those horror stories too.... I'm kind of a weirdo and sort of dig the spamming though... Hmm
@connorbush if your taste in online meat includes spam, try Walmart.com
IMO, one should not purchase meats over the Internet. Find a reputable and knowledgeable local butcher. One that actually cuts from the whole carcass - even better if they have their own kill floor / room (harder and harder to find, especially in large cities - but in rural areas still somewhat common) - and find one that feels that factory packaged cuts are fine for McDonald's, but not his own family's table.
You'll pay much less than "prime" meat online, but more than the local supermarket. In return, you'll get superior service - they'll take time to teach you about meats and cooking styles and times, etc. - and they'll throw in free cuts and samples all the time. Plus, when you find a reasonably priced cut you enjoy and purchase often, you'll probably save money as you'll waste much less as they'll cut for your preference.
Spend the time (and money) necessary to cultivate a relationship with your butcher. Tip. Offer gifts at Christmas. If you hear his child is graduating school, buy the kid a present. You can't imagine how you'll be rewarded in the long run.
Buy what the owner feeds his own family and you'll eat like the top 1%.
@MrsPavlov solid advice. I like this.
@MrsPavlov gotta start sending gifts to http://www.watkinscattleco.com/thestory.html
You can also hit up your local farmer's market and will often find a local cattle farmer who's willing to chat. If they aren't there - you can ask the others who they'd recommend.
Echo valley meats. They are amazing. They make all the others look like the dog food that they really are.

@ErikRL Looks cool but is pricey. Thank you.
@connorbush all online will be. If you want cheap, look for a Mexican butcher where ever you live.
@ErikRL found an awesome grass-fed ranch.
@connorbush awesome! Share the info homie!
I have been buying half cow and half pig for 15 years from a wonderful family farm. If you live near the IL/WI border
Look them up at Solar Harvest Farm. If you go tell them Sharon sent you
@Mellaine alas; I live north of LA in california.
One of the engineers I work with is a part time butcher at his family's shop. In addition to individual cuts, they offer package deals that are sort of economical. I go there for special occasion purchases, but mostly Costco for convenience. Or Cash and Carry for pork butts.
Thanks for the advice all. Might do a 1/4 cow from:
http://www.watkinscattleco.com/
@connorbush nice! after the cow was harvested, the butcher called me and asked how i wanted it cut up. i said "i don't have a clue". he was ready for this and ran me through a series of questions.
just remember though, no matter what, you're going to have a LOT of ground beef. so just don't be surprised. (not that there's anything wrong with a lot of ground beef)
@carl669 I might split the 1/4 cow with a coworker. I do not have the freezer space to accommodate all of that beef. They want $6.20/lb which includes meat, butchering, and packaging. It is grass fed out on 3500 acres.
@connorbush if you don't have a dedicated meat freezer then noooooooooooo way do you have enough room, goodness gracious
@Lotsofgoats my reading suggested id have enough space for 1/8 cow in a regular freezer. I could always keep the rest in my parents freezer across town!

USE CODE FLASH20 for 20% off
@carl669 @walarney @ErikRL @FroodyFrog @lotsofgoats
If y'all wanted some steaks too. Looks like a great deal given the extra 20% and free shipping.
@connorbush holy crap that's pricey. comes out to about $33/lb if you order the cheapest one. and to think, with your quarter cow, you'll be paying a hell of a lot less. ours was $4/lb with hanging weight = 190 lbs. total amount of meat we got was about 120lbs. so $6.33/lb. damn good price for free range beef.
@carl669 the farm i contacted is going to be $6.20 per lb wrapped and cut. Much better than this online deal. For people who don't wish to pony up for a 1/4 cow, this might be an option to try some grass-fed meat.
@connorbush that's still a damn good price. is it $6.20/lb hanging weight? or post processing weight?
@carl669 I believe it is processed. I would have to get it in writing. John at the farm said 170lbs rear 165lbs for front 1/4 so maybe it is hanging weight.
@carl669
If you use TopCashBack, you can get either 6% or 15% back from your purchase...
@connorbush i'd be surprised if that was the processed price. every farm i looked at/contacted always gave me the price per lb hanging weight.
i'm also wondering if the farm does a mixed quarter. the farms i talked to all said that for 1/4 cow, they did a mixed quarter. meaning you get meat from the front and the rear. you might was to ask if they do that. you'll get more variety in the cuts.
Isn't there some "BlackPeopleMeat" site? Worth looking into.
@medz cannibalism + racism?
@medz yes; however, I am white and due to equality I am not welcome on blackpeoplemeet. Actually I think as long as the user seeks black people then he or she can join even if he or she is not black (results of some minimal googling).
