I can accept pad Thai, but how is mac & cheese beating out pho?
Actually, how is mac & cheese beating out anything?
(I guess now I better duck before the nostalgic crowd starts throwing things at me. I just don’t remember macaroni and cheese being something I looked forward to since turning 7 or so.)
Does lasagna not count as a “noodle” dish?
I guess one problem with this poll is that no meaning of “best” is being suggested. Are we picking the best-tasting, the cheapest, or the easiest to make? Or maybe the one that brings back the best memories of snuggling on the couch with someone?
@xobzoo I absolutely don’t get the results, either! Sure, the occasional bowl of mac & cheese is alright, but ramen absolutely eats it for breakfast, no pun intended…pad thai and pho are also amazing. I’d go so far as to say mac & cheese isn’t in the same category as the other three. Homemade mac & cheese can be excellent but let’s be honest: most people are probably thinking of Kraft by default.
@PooltoyWolf@xobzoo Right?! Besides when I make home mac & cheese I add 50% more butter, an ounce of cream cheese, a healthy pinch (pile) of parmesan, cubed spam sautéed with broccoli, and maybe a slice or 2 of american cheese. Who really makes it by the box???
@zinimusprime Just so you know, I was definitely not thinking of the box. I live in the south and my sister-in-law makes the best mac & cheese. It’s almost worth going to family gatherings just for that.
@mycya4me I make a pasta dish with a sauce made with lots of crushed garlic lightly sauteed in a mix of olive oil and butter, add sun dried tomatoes and basil pesto and then toss with cooked pasta (angel hair works well) and salt to taste. Yum!
The answer is yes. I’ll even grant you that mac & cheese is a real good cheap meal. But those people that like lobster mac & cheese are devoid of taste. It’s mediocre mac & cheese and it destroys the lobster. A multilevel crime on all… levels(?)…
@djslack@zinimusprime A local pub used to offer the “Mac Daddy Squealer” - BBQ pulled pork between two grilled slabs of mac & cheese. Delicious, but they were required to have a defibrillator on premises.
Unfortunately, the owner/chef died and the pub closed soon after.

@xobzoo, I too was surprised.
@xobzoo because we are a society of children.
@xobzoo Thank you. I have
exactly the same opinion about mac & cheese.
@Kyeh @xobzoo I too agree that Mac and cheese is overrated. Linguine Alfredo is the adult version.
@xobzoo @zinimusprime I voted for mac & cheese.

@sammydog01 I already forgive you.

/showme the best noodle dish
@mediocrebot I’d be willing to give that one a try.
Angel Hair Pasta with Olive Oil & a hint of salt or sometimes substitute the oil with butter.

@zinimusprime yeah, tried that once and it was, well, meh. Brisket mac and cheese, on the other hand… That’s good eatin’.
@djslack Good call! That sounds delicious! Lobster is too delicate of a flavor I guess.
@djslack @zinimusprime I went to a mac & cheese bar on Friday. They had bacon and green stuff and a lot of things I didn’t recognize. It was amazing.

@djslack @sammydog01 I’d be willing to try that place. Where is it?
@djslack @zinimusprime Caterer, sorry, you’ll just have to make your own Mac & cheese bar at home.
