@blaineg@ircon96@katbyter@Kyeh@tinamarie1974 Dunno, but a chip shop in Glasgow got challenged to find a way, so they did. And a different version is sold at the Texas State Fair, because that crowd will buy anything.
Roast butter is a similar dish, for which recipes exist dating to the 17th century.[16] The first known recipe for roast butter dates to 1615. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep-fried_butter
@haydesigner Sweet potato fries can be an appetizer, and sometimes they get interesting seasonings. I like to dust mine with garam masala and a little salt.
There needs to be an “all of the above, plus everything in the comments”. (Although I will personally pass on the cookie dough, having no sweet tooth, I will 100% not judge, because I’ll bet if you like sweets, it’s delicious!)
This is why I gravitate towards appetizer platters, and also elastic waistbands.
anyone who’s been to Canada knows the correct answer is poutine.
at a minimum, it’s Fries with Cheese curds and Gravy.
beyond that, the sky is the limit when it comes to toppings.
@RobotSkeleton@yakkoTDI you know those little fried sugar coated donuts on most Chinese buffets? Literally canned buttery biscuit dough, deep fried and rolled in sugar.
@earlyre@RobotSkeleton@yakkoTDI I to remember the days of biscuit dough donuts. My Mom used the cap of the salt shaker to make the donut holes. Yes, that’s what is on our China buffet line. My kids love them.
I consider all the entries submitted thus far to qualify a health food when compared to “tocino” (Puerto Rican pork belly fat). My mother would serve me sevreral dozen of these fried with toothpicks pre-dinner.
Oh sweet bliss!
Dill pickles and jalapeno slices.
Stuffed mushrooms (just dripping with the good stuff).
@hchavers with a layer of cheese on top mmmmmmmm
Veggie and/or shrimp tempura.
Cookie dough. Don’t judge.
/giphy cookie dough
@katbyter Isn’t fried cookie dough…a cookie? Or do you batter & deep-fry the frozen stuff to keep it raw?
@ircon96 yes, batter and deep fry
@ircon96 @katbyter What about battered batter?
@blaineg @ircon96 @katbyter
And battered butter?
@blaineg @ircon96 @katbyter @Kyeh Easier than battered beer.
@blaineg @ircon96 @katbyter @werehatrack Battered beer sounds especially disgusting.
@blaineg @ircon96 @katbyter @Kyeh how does it taste? I mean butter is good…batter is good… fried things are good…sssooooooo
@blaineg @katbyter @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 Why am i not surprised that a thread on fried things would go off the rails so magnificently?
@blaineg @ircon96 @katbyter @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 Dunno, but a chip shop in Glasgow got challenged to find a way, so they did. And a different version is sold at the Texas State Fair, because that crowd will buy anything.
@blaineg @ircon96 @katbyter @tinamarie1974 @werehatrack I’ve never tried it, but Wikipedia says it’s similar to French toast. They also say it was invented in TX, but - this is fascinating:
As long as some greasy cheese oozes out, I’m good.
I was all set to say French Fries, but then I realized you said appetizer and not meal.
@haydesigner Sweet potato fries can be an appetizer, and sometimes they get interesting seasonings. I like to dust mine with garam masala and a little salt.
@haydesigner @werehatrack I sprinkle sweet potato fries with cinnamon sugar.

Chinese dumplings-vegetables or pork, but the steamed ones are healthier, but not as good.
@andyw Eggrolls, too.
@andyw I fry my dumplings briefly after steaming.
Horseshoe bats

@earlyre one of the worst things I’ve ever eaten in my life.
Is it calamari or pig rectum?
Doughnuts, obvs. (You can make low rent doughnuts from biscuit dough)
@RobotSkeleton I remember those days of poverty.
@RobotSkeleton @yakkoTDI you know those little fried sugar coated donuts on most Chinese buffets? Literally canned buttery biscuit dough, deep fried and rolled in sugar.

Y’all haven’t had many battered fried cheese curds and it shows.
@jitc I have had exactly as many as it took to confirm that I did not want any more.
@jitc Culver’s! Costco carried some close approximations but I haven’t seen them there in a while.
Onion rings, or more specifically the onion loaf from Hackney’s.
@duodec we used to go to Hackneys just for the onion rings.
@duodec These are amazing.
Some of them french fried pertaters, mmm-hmmm
Chicken tornado
@Star2236 So, taquitos?
@blaineg
Here’s from a restaurant nearby, they call them Mexican egg rolls
I consider all the entries submitted thus far to qualify a health food when compared to “tocino” (Puerto Rican pork belly fat). My mother would serve me sevreral dozen of these fried with toothpicks pre-dinner.
Oh sweet bliss!
@hap46st Tocino, si! There’s a Mexican version made from beef fat, and we make it whenever we buy a brisket.
I be making some!
