Well, I normally just use water. If I happen to feel a need for more, I’ll add some lemon juice and sea salt to it.
But if you want a specific drink, I occasionally will mix this up:
apple juice, diluted with water (to about half strength)
lemon juice, however much you feel like (usually more on hot days; YMMV)
[sea] salt, enough to soften the flavor of the rest, but not to taste salty
I know, it’s not a very specific recipe. Whatever. It’s flexible. If you feel like you need/want more sugar, or if for some reason you like commercial apple juice, don’t dilute it as much. If you like more bite to it, add more lemon. If you really need the electrolytes, add a lot more salt than you think a sane person would choose. (but tasting it as you go, of course)
I’ve thought about experimenting enough to make an actual recipe of it, but it needs to match the weather and my activity level, so there isn’t really one set mix that’s “just right” all the time.
@rebekah_k I remember Pocari Sweat from travel in Japan. At one time when I bought it at the mini-mart which i think was 7-11 (a company in Japan bought the rights to the 7-11 name) they gave me a free reusable plastic Pocari Sweat bottle. I still have it but the plastic straw broke after 30 years. I will keep it and use a stainless straw.:.
@pmarin Secretary Not Sure is the absolute smartest but he was being a total bum out when he wouldn’t let the rest of the Presidential Cabinet go “family style” on his woman…
@accelerator Yep. I plumbed for a whole-house water filter but never bothered to install it. Right out of the ground our well water is so clear and good tasting that no filtering is needed (rural NW Oregon). We get a tiny trace of minerals on the fixtures (iron and calcium), but not enough to worry about.
@macromeh I’m central NM. The aquifer that feeds my well comes down from Colorado. I get water at 225 ft. deep. I’ve tested it a couple times in the last 10 years and it comes back clean with no heavy metals, very low arsenic, not much of anything bad. Microplastics is a concern but I’ve not found a place to test for them. The RO should remove all that I hope.
@accelerator
We’re similarly set up, but our well water is so good that all we have are an iron/sulfur filter and a[n?] UV sanitizer to treat it against any possible harmful microbes.
Prior to this set up with just running through a settling tank, it had been tough on the automatic washer and dishwasher valves due to calcium deposits, but for whatever reason, it no longer seems to be a problem since that change.
Someday, I’d like to find or manufacture [jerry-rig?] a hand pump just in case of longer term power outages, but I’m not that much of a prepper yet,
@PhysAssist I too have been contemplating a hand pump and/or solar powered pump like remote livestock farms use but so far that’s just a thought with no action. My prepper spirit is not that strong!
Gatorade- I like the fruit punch and the orange best.
I like Smart Water, unflavored
@heartny is that just regular water?
@kittykat9180 No, it is enhanced with electrolytes.
@kittykat9180 It’s Chiefly British water.
Sweet tea
PICKLE JUICE!!
https://greatlakespickling.com/is-pickle-juice-the-new-gatorade/
Something went terribly wrong. Please try again.
@IndifferentDude Barf!
@blaineg It’s the BEST! They even sell it frozen at area Fairs! Yum!!
@IndifferentDude But do they deep fry it?
Glacier Freeze Gatorade, but I water it down a little, too much sodium
/showme some drinking pickle juice.
@mediocrebot I’m concerned about why anybody would ruin perfectly good pickles by encasing them in lime Jello.
@mediocrebot @xobzoo
Gunna have to say Glacier cherry.
Gatorade lime cucumber is delicious. We got a variety pack with apple, cherry, and watermelon, which were also really tasty as well.

@xobzoo That sounds like a pretty tasty drink! I, too, cannot stand full-force juice; I usually feel more thirsty if it’s too sweet.
Here’s a damn comment. At least I do what I’m told.
BTW. Water
Liquid IV, usually the lemon-lime flavor.
@togle This implies solid IV.
Pocari Sweat

@Salanth gimme dat Dragonfruit Body Armor all day
Powerade still exists? I haven’t seen it in stores since the 90s.
@brennyn really? i see it pretty much everywhere near where gatorade is
/youtube Idiocracy Brondo what plants crave electrolytes
@pmarin Secretary Not Sure is the absolute smartest but he was being a total bum out when he wouldn’t let the rest of the Presidential Cabinet go “family style” on his woman…
Aquarius or Pocari Sweat (or any other sports related drinks/jelly) from Japan.
Water is my all day drink (after morning coffee). If I’ve been sick then I’ll have cucumber lime Gatorade.
I don’t believe in electrolytes.
@gjrupert You think car batteries are just figments of some imaginations?
Liquid IV (golden cherry flavor only because I bought a crap ton on Meh)
Celcius
@emeraldcateyez Centigrade
@blaineg @emeraldcateyez But, Kelvin ranks as the coolest!
And “Centigrade” implies you must be old (as am i).
@emeraldcateyez @phendrick It’s weird being the same age as old people.
@blaineg @emeraldcateyez @phendrick
Just means you’ve outlived your enemies.

RO water from my private well and run through an alkaline and mineral filter to adjust ph and replace minerals stripped by the RO process.
