For anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, slight spoiler alert, but it doesn’t really give anything away. Watch the scene starting at the 2-min mark in the first video (unfortunately, you have to click the link thru to YouTube, but it’s worth it) & keep in mind that Messi wasn’t sedated at all. The second video shows how they trained him. He was given an award at Cannes, but he should have gotten at least an honorary Oscar… He’s amazing!
Seth MacFarlane, Brian on Family Guy.
He actually made it seem like the dog could talk just like an arrogant college kid who’s daddy paid their way through school while they thought they “worked their way through college” by playing guitar at open mic nights in exchange for drinks and just happened to fall into a middle management job thanks to Daddy’s connections.
@phendrick I suspect he had relationship issues. Kind of like the old joke (usually told from a woman’s perspective) “The more I know about men, the more I like my dog!”
@2many2no@Kidsandliz@Kyeh Actually, Pal was the original dog that played Lassie, and all the dogs after him were also males. Even animal casting directors were sexist back then! JK–there were several reasons, mainly due to the coat being fuller in males & more consistent throughout the seasons. Although, there was at least a little chauvinism at play, since back then, it was commonly believed that male dogs were easier to train.
@phendrick IDK, I’ve successfully trained several dogs over the years but never had any luck training my late husband to do anything – not even to pick up his dirty laundry off the floor right next to the hamper! (I’m getting my “best served cold” revenge, since he’s been gone for 13 years & can’t defend himself. Love you, spud! )
@macromeh It’s not only the females that are attracted to shoes & handbags. Everyone knows how much many dogs of both genders love to chew them – and the cuter/more expensive the better!
@2many2no@ircon96@Kidsandliz@Kyeh@phendrick Pro tip: I discovered that being willing to help out but then screwing up (for example, pitching in with the laundry but accidentally shrinking your wife’s sweater) can get you relegated to “hopelessly incompetent” status and relieved of household duties.
Since Lassie has been mentioned a few times, here’s a photo of me swimming with my oldest inflatable: a Lassie swim ring made in 1959. Still soft and buoyant!
@catthegreat@PooltoyWolf Can’t believe that inflatable swim ring is going strong after all these years and it’s older than either of us; I know for me by a few years, and for you much longer if pic is accurate.
@pmarin Elijah Wood plays a lawyer who tries to kill himself in first episode but fails. Meets neighbor girl and falls for her… She has a dog. For some reason he sees the dog as a man in a cheap dog costume, but everyone else sees the dog as a dog. He befriends the dog trying to get with the girl. The dog gets him into all sorts of trouble.
It looks dumb at first glance the man in cheap dog costume… But it’s actually quite a cute sitcom. Dark at times, very counter culture at times. A lot of the episodes, especially in the later seasons is about him trying to solve the mystery of why he sees Wilfred as a man in a dog costume instead of just a dog.
@macromeh@pmarin I only saw one episode of the Australian original. Wilfred was more menacing than goofy in that one. Seemed very low budget. Very different feel, darker and grittier somehow.
Apparently there are plans to reboot it (US version) as a movie. Not sure if it will ever happen.
@OnionSoup Thanks for reminding me about this show! I had started to watch it when it first came out & I’m not sure what happened, but i got sidetracked from it & must have forgotten about it. Very entertaining, like most FX shows I’ve watched over the years. Recommended for those who like dark, irreverent/subversive, quirky comedy.
@pakopako Either that show was ahead of its time, or we were behind and it was catching us up, relative to all the implied surveillance and govt/industrial manipulation.
Old Yeller.
@yakkoTDI Great movie

@ircon96 Hey, he could be my dog Ash’s long lost brother (banana for scale).
@ircon96 WOW. Okay, he gets my vote.

@shahnm he’s a good dog. For me to poop on!

All great suggestions, but the correct answer is Scooby Doo.

Does Balto count? Because he’s the best boy.

@pmarin Great story; always wondered how he got the idea.
I’m still waiting for a movie based on his “Along the Scenic Route”.
@phendrick I suspect he had relationship issues. Kind of like the old joke (usually told from a woman’s perspective) “The more I know about men, the more I like my dog!”

Are we all too young to remember Lassie?
@2many2no
Lassie’s in the original poll !
@2many2no @Kyeh No Pal is in the original poll not Lassie. Apparently, at least according to the poll wording, Pal predated Lassie.
@2many2no @Kidsandliz @Kyeh Actually, Pal was the original dog that played Lassie, and all the dogs after him were also males. Even animal casting directors were sexist back then! @2many2no @ircon96 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh Or at least less distracted by cute shoes and handbags.

@2many2no @ircon96 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh
Probably true for other species also, based on my experiences with my wife and others in her family.

Female dogs are real bitches.
(C’mon, someone had to say it… )

@ircon96 Did you ever try using a shock collar (i don’t mean on the dogs)?
@2many2no @ircon96 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @phendrick Pro tip: I discovered that being willing to help out but then screwing up (for example, pitching in with the laundry but accidentally shrinking your wife’s sweater) can get you relegated to “hopelessly incompetent” status and relieved of household duties.
@2many2no @ircon96 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @macromeh But, that cost you a new sweater?
@2many2no @ircon96 @Kyeh @macromeh @phendrick
We are going to tell on you. What’s your wife’s phone number?
@ircon96 Those silly annoying habits that you’d give anything to still have to endure …
@2many2no @ircon96 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @phendrick
Cheap at twice the price.
If I had it, I’d give it to you (previous wife).

@PooltoyWolf user name checks out
@catthegreat It’s what I’m known for

@catthegreat @pmarin I just turned 36, heh. PVC vinyl will last a very long time if properly cared for!
@PooltoyWolf You must be the PVC whisperer, it never holds up for very long for me.
@werehatrack Let’s just say I have extensive knowledge and experience with inflatable care and maintenance, heh.
Benji!
Jason Gann, Wilfred on Wilfred.

@OnionSoup This is a “whuut??” for me. Have no idea what it is. Seems disturbing enough I’ll have to look it up when I’m in that kind-of mood.
@pmarin Elijah Wood plays a lawyer who tries to kill himself in first episode but fails. Meets neighbor girl and falls for her… She has a dog. A lot of the episodes, especially in the later seasons is about him trying to solve the mystery of why he sees Wilfred as a man in a dog costume instead of just a dog.
@OnionSoup @pmarin Also, there is an Australian production (the original) and a US one (the knock off). Jason Gann is Wilfred the dog in both.
@macromeh @pmarin I only saw one episode of the Australian original. Wilfred was more menacing than goofy in that one. Seemed very low budget. Very different feel, darker and grittier somehow.

He’s scuba certified.
@pakopako Thanks for that. I’d forgotten about Bear completely. Addicted to that show from ep. 1, though they did several u-turns.
@pakopako Either that show was ahead of its time, or we were behind and it was catching us up, relative to all the implied surveillance and govt/industrial manipulation.
