@JWhirly I don’t eat Jelly with the PB every day, Some time I do Honey or Banana or something else… But be sure there are many Jelly flavors!
I hear my Mom was worried about the craving for PB & J … the Doc said Not to worry, PB was a Great source of protein. I have now switched to Natural PB, Creamy, Jif has a great one as do CostCo.
Trader Joe’s had a mixed nut butter that was amazing. Of course, like all things I like at Trader Joe’s it was a limited time only thing. So I made a batch of my own by putting mixed nuts in a food processor until they no longer mixed nuts.
@ironcheftoni@Jackinga I’ve made nut butters using a hand-cranked grain mill that’s commonly sold for grinding corn. The result is not as creamy as the commercial products, but it spreads well enough. I’ve seen versions of my mill for under $20 online, though the exact one I use is about $47 if ordered through WallyWorld.
@ironcheftoni on topic of Trader Joe’s, learned an interesting tidbit from a store employee: they normally limit products carried to 1500. Which still seems like a lot for small square-footage stores. Over the holidays this increases to about 2000, but once most of those added products sell-out, they don’t come back.
Back in November they had some grilled olives and they were fantastic; went back and no more to be found. So for something jarred like this that keeps a long time when sealed, we all know the old TJs rule… if you like it buy a bunch of it for you and your friends (or just for you…). But save some for me!
@ironcheftoni Yeah, they all seem to think that they need to put chocolate in it. Of course, you could always grind your own. (I might try that, now that you mention it. My S.O. likes it both with and without the added chocolate, and has the devil’s own time finding any that’s without.)
@werehatrack I have made just hazelnut butter before. I used it to make the filling for hazelnut truffles. I think by itself though it can be a little bitter.
@JWhirly I think they would find little support for their position if they tried to get stroppy about it. I can’t see the peanut butter folks just giving in and calling theirs peanut paté.
@werehatrack very true! Peanut pâté and/or peanut paste just don’t have the same tasty ring to it!
Perhaps in 129 years the almond/coconut/soy/cashew/etc. milks will be just as accepted.
@JWhirly i would think the peanut butter industry would be more annoyed. But with more people coming up with nut allergies, they have to have alternatives. Like most schools have moved to sunflower seed butter
I nearly everyday at Lunch have a PB &… sandwich. that is the way it has been for over 60 years!
But I also like the other Butters too… On a warm piece of bread & let it melt!
@mycya4me our oldest son could eat PB&J every single day for the rest of his life and be quite happy with it! Glad to hear there are others!
@JWhirly @mycya4me I get really annoyed with the absolute prohibitions on PB&J in home-supplied bag lunches at school.

@JWhirly @werehatrack what… I would be in trouble!

@ironcheftoni Or extremely, extremely well mixed nuts…

This is the one I have.
@ironcheftoni @Jackinga @werehatrack Why not mix individual nut butters after they’ve been buttered?

@Jackinga @mbuffin @werehatrack not the same. Also i have yet to find brazil nut butter or hazelnut butter (Nutella doesn’t count)

I wonder if the dairy butter industry is as ruffled with the myriad of butter usages as they are with the milks?

@ironcheftoni @JWhirly Sunflower seed butter gives me the galloping runs. Do Not Want.
@ironcheftoni @werehatrack I wonder if that is because of the different fatty acid profile compared to peanut and dairy butters?
@JWhirly That’s almost certain, but it would be expensive and pointless to isolate the specific offending oleate when I can simply avoid it.
Sunflower nut butter!!
@rtjhnstn was thinking this also, but it’s hard to find one that is not sweetened.
Or garlic butter
Texas Roadhouse butter!
@user12385433 Texas roadkill butter?
@pmarin Nah. By the time it’s that tender, it tends to have too much gravel in it.
@pmarin @werehatrack you got to get it before the birds do!
Kerry Gold Pure Irish Butter
Interesting to consider the etymology of “butter.” The root of “cow-cheese” makes my mind wander to head-cheese. Rabbit trail…
This thread made me think of Betty:
Better butter, better self made

Lard
Butter pecan, commonly found inside tubs of ice cream.
