Thanks! nabbed!
Hmm... Still was free at 12:23am CST. Mayhap it is over at midnight PST.
@andrewpatrick Still free at 2pm EST on 12/18
I'm not 100% sure it ends/ended on Tuesday. Some sites reported it was for today only - others were vague. More info (including other free movies by region) here: http://phandroid.com/2014/12/16/free-movies-google-play/
Although I already have it on Vudu, I grabbed this freebie too. Thanks @ilovereality!
Btw, I went to see the new Hobbit movie last night (Tuesday). Haven't ever read any of Tolkien's books and hadn't read the reviews, so I was surprised and saddened by what happened to some of my favorite characters.
@msklzannie You are a bad person, and so are your parents. Anyone who has not read the hobbit by the time they are a teenager should be banished.
@msklzannie Peter Jackson is pretty much making it up as he goes; the books wouldn't have spoiled the movie plot at all.
@Fen_Star We did read an excerpt from The Hobbit in 10th grade English class. Does that count?
@msklzannie We went and saw Into the Woods for free last night! The other line was for the Hobbit. Advanced screenings are great!
@PocketBrain I knew he had added a character in the 2nd movie. And, of course he'd have to be "creative" in order to make 3 movies from only 1 book.
@PocketBrain Tolkien was in the middle of rewriting the Hobbit to match the style of Lord of the Rings when he died. Peter Jackson had access to his notes and used that on things that were flushed out from the original manuscript.
Awesome, thanks!
Also free isTrans-Siberian Orchestra's second album, Christmas Attic.

@2many2no Ooh! Good find!
@2many2no Yes - there are usually a couple albums or singles free each week - Linkin Park's "The Hunting Party" (Album) is also free. Let the jokes begin (sorry Linkin Park fans!)
@ilovereality The Linkin Park album is really pretty good, but I think some of the songs are more metal than before. That's OK for me.
LOTR FOR still free. Thanks. The Hobbit is $2.79 and some others are $2.99.
Still going. Just got it. Thanks, @ilovereality. ilovemeh. :-)
yay! thanks @ilovereality! (and @2many2no)
@carl669 They have new free stuff every week. I have discovered some decent new music that I wouldn't otherwise have purchased.
Thanks :)
It's still free. Thanks!
Is there a way to download it to watch offline?
@hallmike looks like the answer is "it depends" (google search) https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2851696?hl=en "Movies and TV shows purchased on Google Play cannot be downloaded to Android TVs or most computers, but you can watch videos offline using a Chromebook."
@ilovereality What about a Roku and Playon's Playmark?
@lisaviolet Google Play is on Roku now - I have playon too but have never tried to use it with Google Play. This movie was actually my first from Google Play - until then I'd just done music.
@ilovereality It would probably work, then.
Thanks!
forces me to add payment method for something that's free no thanks
@Foxborn Well of course there is a catch :) I already have a cc on file with them for Android apps and such.
@ilovereality and I have paid for apps twice and that was on amazon so I could get an app I wanted (Minecraft) for much less than it cost (their weird point system where I seem to earn point on free things
@Foxborn It had my old cc on file and processed fine. Apparently when it's free it doesn't run the card at all.
I used my card once to add a quarter onto my account there. I haven't used it, and immediately deleted my card from it.
Thanks! I got everything! Free IS good!
@lisaviolet Would you mind just posting a shit ton of Emma Stone gifs? I could happily look at her all day.

If you have purchased (or will purchase) a chromecast soon - here are some 'free' offers (including the X-Men movie):
https://www.google.com/chrome/devices/chromecast/offers/
I have had a chromecast for at least six months - the $20 google play credit would not work for me and I passed on the 'free trials' on that page - but I did redeem the Free X-Men Movie offer so now my Google Play Movie library has doubled in size (see original post) :)
@ilovereality Yeah, I pulled out my old relic of a laptop to see what I could get and $20 shows up at first but then goes away when they check what offers I have available. I've only had Chromecast for a month. I'm sure there are other conditions. But , hey, I've got both movies now.
Here's a new freebie: Michael Buble's Christmas (Deluxe Special Edition).
https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Michael_Bubl%C3%A9_Christmas_Deluxe_Special_Edition?id=B6tb55cya4lcpsmxcu4ykqz5vcu
Yes, it's going to ask you for a payment method, but you won't be charged. If you don't like it, tough kitties, it's still free. Merry Christmas!
@barnabee tough kitties:
Free screenings of the Wedding Ringer (I nabbed passes for tomorrow)

Been a while so I stopped by Google Play and found several "Classic Rock" items for free. Best of Meat Loaf and Toto (and a few more under 'various artists') https://play.google.com/store/music/category/ROCK
@ilovereality thanks!
@ilovereality Me too-Thanks!
@ilovereality Thanks x 3!
Yeah there have been other topics started since I created this one a year ago.... but I'm just jumping back here.

'cheers, it's christmas sucka'
MRW I see this title:
GOG.com has Worms: Forts Under Siege for free currently.
Also, there are great deals on the rest of the Team 17 catalog, including the other Worms games (which are absolutely hilarious).
I love GOG! It's like Steam, but without the DRM and you don't have to install an installer to install your games.
@dashcloud @hallmike - Thanks! Nabbed!
@dashcloud nabbed.
@ilovereality @dashcloud - Should we be adding current freebies to a year old post? I wouldn't mind a new post for awesome freebies like these :)
