@RiotDemon I remember the launch, then it just sort of vanished from the pop consciousness - NASA is not known for its self-promotion savvy. Thank goodness that the interwebs and its explorers provide …
@PooltoyWolf@RiotDemon It’s pretty widely documented if you google it. He’s ripped off Cracked and xkcd, among others.
It’s not the only reason I hate The Oatmeal. It’s not even the top one. But it’s the one you can’t really argue with.
@Limewater wow, harsh. All we did was like the entertaining presentation of an interesting event we weren’t aware of. Just cause you have (probably valid) issues with someone’s business model doesn’t mean you have to dis the appreciation of a good production. Now I have to go eat some chocolate …
@kdemo Based on the previous results reported in that “article”, odds are not great. But I’m hopeful it lands successfully. I’m curious to see new discoveries.
@Limewater@Targaryen I don’t see too many other people in his category raising money to save Tesla’s Wardenclyffe laboratory and turn it into a museum.
@PooltoyWolf@Targaryen Yeah, that was a pretty successful bit of self-promotion for him.
You know who don’t get enough credit for that? Christopher Nolan and David Bowie. I’m pretty sure that, without Bowie’s Tesla in The Prestige, the internet wouldn’t have suddenly discovered Tesla and Inman wouldn’t have jumped on the bandwagon.
@kdemo@sammydog01 I guess I’ll try and tune in to the insight conference at 5. I was stuck at work, and it was way too busy for me to try and sneak away.
This is Mars:
This is the Insight rover diggin’ up the place:
This is what happens to Mars when Insight starts digging up the joint:
@ruouttaurmind -
And this is what happens when the Elonmobile gets there:
I love The Oatmeal.
I had no idea this what happening either.

@RiotDemon Yeah, The Oatmeal is great at taking other people’s material and repackaging it and then congratulating you for reading it.
@Limewater @RiotDemon First I’m hearing of this. I’ve been reading Matt’s stuff since he started and I don’t think he’s ripping stuff off.

So cool! We all need to hold our breath and cross our fingers on Monday.

@ruouttaurmind - Agree, sadly shocking how many failures happened.
They are headed to an old sea this time to see what they can sea I guess. Actually the focus of this one is looking for signs of water/life.
I just looked at the url. Scroll to the end. Apparently they are live streaming (well with the several minute transmission delay) the landing.
Very cool! And very well presented. I sent the link to my grandson who will love it!
Couldn’t you have posted a link to an actual news site instead of the insufferable Oatmeal?
@Limewater I could have, but I chose the insufferable Oatmeal.
@Limewater @Targaryen Why are people picking on The Oatmeal?? He’s freaking awesome!
@PooltoyWolf @Targaryen It’s pretty much just me. Matt Inman sucks super-hard.
@Limewater @Targaryen Gonna have to agree to disagree here. Dont think the harsh words are warranted either. -shrug-
@PooltoyWolf @Targaryen The guy gets a ton of unwarranted praise and money. He can take a harsh word or two.

NASA will broadcast the landing on NASA TV starting at 2 p.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 26th. Tune in here.
They call it 7 minutes of terror.

It landed safely!!!
I forgot to watch.
@kdemo They had just started cheering when I tuned in.
@kdemo @sammydog01 I guess I’ll try and tune in to the insight conference at 5. I was stuck at work, and it was way too busy for me to try and sneak away.
