This is one of the most rational answers to this question that has ever been committed to video.
The last time I had that odious inquiry tossed at me, I said that in the era of impermanence of everything, with major corporations getting swallowed up right and left, others falling over and evaporating, and 90% of small businesses failing in three years or less, any plan longer than the end of the week was purely speculative. As far as I was concerned, since business today only cares about the current quarter’s bottom line and not the actual long term, I was best served by doing likewise. The interviewer didn’t like that, and I didn’t care, because the fact that they’d asked the question told me everything about the predatory nature of their corporate culture that I needed to know. That question is designed to reveal whether the applicant has the desired level of ruthless ambition focused on manipulable goals, and I abandoned those attitudes decades ago.
