Isn’t a glass of wine a day supposed to be, like, really really good for you? I thought I read that somewhere. Maybe you stay just as unhealthy, but don’t care about it as much? Something like that.
@Mehrocco_Mole I was going to take this opportunity to once again plug Quady’s ‘Purple!’ concord wine, but… it seems they’ve stopped selling it. Purple tears!
@Mehrocco_Mole Interesting graphic. The first three “people” are described as a Snob, a Beginner, and a Lush and their opinions seem appropriately matched. I can only assume that the person who said its “great” is labeled as an “Awesome”, the graph must have been produced by the Zinfandel Growers Association. “Don’t listen to the Lush, Snob or Beginner, take it from Awesome, our wine is great.”
@cranky1950 One of the local vineyards near me makes a rosé by mixing together their red and white wines. I’m not so sure that’s the right way to go about it, but it means you would have to check both options to get pink if you follow their methodology. I’m pretty sure other vineyards make their rosé from a particular variety of grapes, but don’t quote me.
I don’t drink wine, but every time the organic grocery store in my neighborhood has a sommelier, I ask them for a local/organic version of Boones Farms’ Strawberry Hill.
I’m not a big wine drinker - I’ll have some on occasion. However, my wife is, and just from talking to her, I can talk about wine pretty intelligently, even though I don’t generally enjoy it.
That being said, I can really enjoy a little good port.
I’m not much of a wine drinker (Chianti is about all I’ve ever really developed a taste for), but I do like making and drinking mead. I usually lay it down at the end of the summer (I guess I should get on that), and it needs at least three months to be drinkable (and six or eight to be better than “okay”), so I guess I drink more of it in the winter and spring. Does that count?
As for beer, I know darker, more full-bodied ones are supposed to be a winter thing, but I enjoy Guinness year round.
Oh, def. Once the temp hits 80F and higher, I have no desire for wines other than rose, and of those only the provencal/languedoc/camargue variety (I prefer uber-dry fruity and rough). Just opened a bottle of 2015 Demoiselles Coiffees as I just finished off a 2015 hauts de melaine Tavel. Mmmm, summer!
I hardly drink. Don’t really like wine. I think I remember liking something a long time ago, Arbor Mist, I believe. Wine with so much added fruit flavor, it no longer tasted like wine.
I’ll occasionally buy wine to cook with. Then I’m usually disappointed in whatever random thing I was trying. All I know is, there is a local seafood restaurant that has an awesome garlic and wine sauce that I have no idea how to make.
On the occasion that I do drink wine, I drink whatever wine is around.
@conandlibrarian All of it?
@2many2no
If you don’t like wine, you’re going to get a lot of whine.
This poll needs “ingesting poison when safe water is available is stupid” as an option.
@DarkHuD Whoa, you look so strange and tiny up there on your high horse!
@brhfl No, no, no… It’s not a horse. It might look like one from so far down below, but it’s actually a pedestal.
…and you better hope my liver isn’t damaged when I fall off said pedestal, cause you’ll need one after ingesting all that poison swill!
Isn’t a glass of wine a day supposed to be, like, really really good for you? I thought I read that somewhere. Maybe you stay just as unhealthy, but don’t care about it as much? Something like that.
@DarkHuD
if you say so. or perhaps not.
People drink wine? I thought it was like a seasoning for adding to recipes. While drinking beer.
@awk Truth. I hate dry vermouth so much, but damned if it isn’t fantastic for cooking.
Hey @barney
@Mehrocco_Mole I was going to take this opportunity to once again plug Quady’s ‘Purple!’ concord wine, but… it seems they’ve stopped selling it. Purple tears!
@Mehrocco_Mole Yep, that’s what I see.
@brhfl Aww…
So which one is you?
@Mehrocco_Mole Where’s the “Wait, Zinfandel is red?” option?
@HemlockTea That would fall under beginner
@Mehrocco_Mole I dunno, man. Their first album was pretty good, but everything after that was pretty meh.

Beer is my poison of life.
I’ve looked through the list, but neither “no, but boxed and fortified” nor “just give me the fucking alcohol” are available options.
is pink wine considered white or red?

@heartny That is technically a blush. Rosé is when you use red wine grapes and remove the skins.
I prefer wines with pretty or unusual labels and/or bottles, whatever the season.
I just drink it straight from the box, whichever kind it is. And usually I only buy it to cook with in the first place.
@Dweezle
Enjoying a Shiraz tonight.
My main wine criteria is whether it’s a highly tannic wine. Wines with a lot of tannin make my throat feel like it’s closing up. Not pleasant.
The only “seasonal” wine I’m concerned about is Beaujolais Nouveau. You want that stuff young and fresh. Otherwise, who cares?
I’m often too busy whining to be particular!
We drink a little more rosé in the summertime. Our favorites this year: http://www.navarrowine.com/shop/productdetail.php?prodid=1381
And from these guys but their website doesn’t allow links to individual wines.

PROTIP: Mead mixes well with Scotch. Especially peaty Islays like Laphroaig.

Just brought home 6 bottles. I love combining Ralph’s sale prices with buy 6 get 30% off!
I don’t know about it or drink it enough to have an informed opinion. Is that acceptable?
