This is the only photo I have on my phone. The rest are on my computer, and I know there was some higher quality ones. This just happened to be the first one I took, so I uploaded it to Facebook. I don’t know why I didn’t upload anything else.
Here’s a photo I took about an hour ago of the moon above El Paso and Juarez. The somewhat darker line of greenery marks the Rio Grande and the international border.
@Barney
You want clear skies, low humidity, far from everywhere so low light pollution, and time of year matters so the the night sky shows you the best stuff.
Google for tips. Someplace in western Kansas with almost no light pollution ought to be great.
Here’s a shot from Death Valley (on the way to Narfcake’s Catshirt Carnival so no sweat getting out of your way.)
I still love this pic, but one must take this bitter with the sweet:
Moon Over Manhattan
The source of our moon here is Dickie Riley, a telecom, electrical, and construction expert. He was involved in the World Trade Towers construction - in installing and repairing antenna - and after 9/11, in the demolition work.
According to this web page his recent death was related to toxic exposure during the 9/11 cleanup.
@heartny isn’t that the truth, lol.
The only time I got a semi decent photo with my phone was sticking the lens up to the telescope lens.
I’ll have to go find that photo…
@heartny
Tomorrow take a pic just before moonset or just after moonrise near the horizon.
Last year’s super Moon photographed at Glastonbury Tor.

@RiotDemon
That’s fine.
@heartny Yeah that is about right LOL. Mine turned out about the same way but with a camera.
Mom’s dog, Lady, howls when I sing. Gee, everyone’s a critic.
/image bad moon rising
@Barney Maybe she just wants to sing along
@compunaut We both sing off key.

@moondrake
Nice.
Great view where I am. It helps to live in a mountain range. I’d take pictures, though I’m preoccupied with a forest fire in the distance.
@PlacidPenguin It’s flat and cloudless here. A beautiful, beautiful prairie night.
@PlacidPenguin Same here… can only imagine how bright it would have been if the air hadn’t been full of smoke.
Hmmm. I might go for a drive into darkness. Get me some Moon and some Milky Way tonite to go with a Cohen playlist.

@f00l I would dearly love to see a sky that looks like your last picture.
@Barney
Go to sea. And turn off the lights.
Surely there are places around Kansas also. Go on a clear night with no moon.

This pic was made in Big Bend National Park. (The Davis Observatory is not too far away.)
@f00l Even when we went camping when I was a kid, I never saw a sky like this.

@f00l Maybe that’s my problem, I always drive through western Kansas with my eyes closed.
@Barney
Driving through Kansas isn’t always a good idea…
@Barney
Sorry. It’s the McDonald Observatory. In the Davis Mountains. Part of UT - Austin. Where was my brain?
Near Fort Davis, Texas. The Observatory is open for tours but they book up, so reserve early if you are coming that way.
@PlacidPenguin
She’s starting in Kansas, so she has to drive thru Kansas to get anywhere else if going by car.
And I like Kansas.
I’ll howl at the clouds.
@daveinwarsh Sorry you won’t get to see it.
Pretty… I only have binoculars, not a worthy scope, but it is impressive even using only Mk1 eyeballs.
@duodec my telescope stand broke, otherwise I’d be using that. The support piece in the middle snapped off at the legs and jb weld didn’t work.
Thanks for the reminder. I’ll take Murphy out to howl at half-time.
Never got to see the moon through the overcast, so had to improvise.
@KDemo That looks better than the moon I was looking at.
@Barney - Me too. And you can’t make a quesadilla with the super moon when you’re finished viewing.
By the light of the silvery moon…

This one used to make me laugh

I went out last night. It was beautiful, but very cold when I decided to jump in the ocean.
@barney…no howling for me tonight…but all is ok other than an unplanned overnight stay!
@mikibell Lady and I are howling for you ARH-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
(Thanks for letting me know.)
@Barney
@Barney @mikibell
Not exactly what I wanted, but…
@PlacidPenguin Lol. That’ll work.
@PlacidPenguin lady is much prettier than that…just sayin…
Took care of my howling last night, at a 98% full moon.
According to an iOS moon app “Moonpro”, for those in Central Standard Time. A super moon will hit its peak today at 6:06 pm.
@f00l Too damn cold to go out and howl.
@Barney
Just put on your special purple shoes.
Tap your heels together 3 times.
Say
"There’s no place like warm."
“There’s no place like warm.”
“There’s no place like warm.”
@f00l I need warm socks. My feetsies are cold.
@Barney
Meh could help?
@f00l That’s a start.
