Mine wasn’t refreshing so at 15 minutes after midnight I was going back to re-read the IRK info to see if I missed something. Thirty minutes past the hour and I’ve got the new product!
I used to have mugs that did the same thing these whiskey cups did. I used to drink ice cream floats. Likewise, I haven’t had a float in years. Furthermore, I don’t know about Whiskey cups, but maybe I might buy a wall cooled mug on Prime Day.
I also think A&W may have sold their own brand of mug for root-beer floats (I could be mistaken), but I can picture exactly what you’re talking about. I loved having floats in those mugs!
If these were made of metal and could take heat, they would be nice to use for coffee. Pour in just made coffee that is too hot to drink, and the cold cup gets it down to drinking temperature. I otherwise either slosh it around in a big heavy pot, or drop in an ice cube, both relatively annoying operations.
@phr huh. That’s a neat idea: refrigerating a thermos (which is durable enough to handle that range if temperature change) and then pouring a hot drink in it to immediately chill it.
Though for coffee specifically, a friend of mine would make coffee ice cubes from leftover coffee; they were only good for dunking in the next batch of hot coffee.
@pakopako@phr You must live at a low altitude. Here my coffee cools down so fast that if I let it sit on the counter for more than a minute I have to zap it in the microwave (I like my coffee really hot.)
Even if I could get over the idea of drinking scotch out of a plastic cup, I can’t get over the reviews. Check the Amazon photo reviews, nearly every single one complains about “glasses” that cracked after just a few uses.
@uscpsycho I don’t own these, but they’re hand wash only. If those reviewers are like my wife, they likely completely ignore that and probably ruined them in the dishwasher.
@uscpsycho@wooterBrett Or they froze these open side up - the trapped liquid can apply pressure to the bottom if allowed to freeze in the narrow space in the bottom (they’re supposed to creep up the sides when frozen open side down)
@wooterBrett@Wormwood The reviewers said they followed directions exactly, freezing upside down and only hand washing. These things are super brittle. Since these are still being sold at regular price on Amazon, and there is no expiration date on these, my guess is that they know they have a bad batch and they’re being unloaded on Meh. Caveat emptor…
If people want their whiskey cooled, I don’t understand why they don’t just refrigerate it?
This product goes along with whiskey stones, just a pointless gimmick.
You want a touch of water to help unlock the flavors. I believe university research showed a rough 25% of water needed to the volume of whiskey. So why would people want to put teeth mashing stone blocks in their drink which does not benefit the taste? Anyways, I went squirrelly there. This product dumb
@Drez143 This study said that 20% volume of water resulted in maximal aroma. That doesn’t correlate to how it tastes, a touch of water is beneficial but I wouldn’t drink good scotch in a 20/80 blend. But if I just wanted to sniff it…
Had too much fun time in ochem dissolving fun stuff in ethanol to ever consider drinking alcohol out of plastic shit like this is why chemistry should be required coursework for every human.

Part of is the experience is the ice cubes going “tink tink” in the glass of bourbon.
Pass.
The IRK is over … isn’t it??

@AaronLeeJohnson I had those too!

@AaronLeeJohnson you’re gonna be intrigued by Sidedeal’s item today, then.

Sites borked, boys.
Plastic!?
Aristocrats DO NOT drink from plastic cups. Geez.
Drink my whiskey out of a plastic cup? I just can’t do it.
This product is dumb as hell and I love it. No, it’s not for children. This is for whiskey, specifically.

@wooterBrett The reviewers stated that they hand washed only but they still broke. There’s a lot of frustration.

For those times when you want your whiskey to taste like frozen plastic.
@warpedrotors maybe for the 1.75 litre plastic jugs of whiskey. Then in keeping with the A&W idea, add a scoop of ice cream and a spritz of soda.
Hmm… that might actually work.
@pmarin @warpedrotors I like the direction this is going (except for the cheap whiskey!)!
Tiny solo cups filled with questionable gel, and for a quarter of a Benjamin!
Meh, you’ve really done it this time, this might be the worst one yet. Noiiice. Bold. Meh.
@qazxto pretty sure there will be extras of these for future regret kits.
These seem like a really bad idea at a high price. Would buy at 2/$5.
@pmarin I didn’t read they were plastic; this is a bad idea at any price
Are they Macallan compatible?
@Salanth Surely nae.
@Salanth @werehatrack not even for a wee dram.
I won’t buy this shit, but I’m happy to see something new.

@Drez143 University research? I wonder which frat house did the testing?
@macromeh https://vinepair.com/booze-news/ideal-water-dilute-whiskey-science/#:~:text=This data led researchers to,the ideal level of dilution.

shit like this is why chemistry should be required coursework for every human.
@bass1193 for those times you can’t double like a comment… you like and comment! Well played!
@bass1193 Was going to say that any whiskey worth consuming would dissolve that polycarbonate into some ghastly, undrinkable sludge.
I drink my coffee black, bourbon neat, Ice is for Sodapop.
I’m being told kumquats is spelled with a K. So, pass.
@Imposter But loquat is spelled with an L, and they taste better.
@werehatrack Don’t tell me how to make a Big Foxy Karl.
@Imposter Typo reported, thanks for the catch.
@Imposter You’re just too used to doing things like the rest of the world. Sometimes you must let loose your inner Australian.
But a correction has been made just to keep the peace.
@Imposter @werehatrack when they go loquat, we go kumquat
Root beer float shots? Sure!
cursed product
