Are you as in love with browser tabs as I am?
5I love browser tabs- I have tons of there here and at work- probably 200 open at home, and maybe the same number or more open at work. I try hard to keep the number down, but it's really hard as there's lots of cool things to read, watch, and do on the Internet now.
So, how about you?

I usually have between 30 and 40 on my phone at all times. I love them, too. :-)
Best browser invention since bookmarks. But once they start extending off the screen I have to start closing some. I like them all the be viewable at a glance without scrolling.
I DESPISE browser tabs. I work with everything in its own window. I tried, but found that I gained zero advantage from tabbed browsing. I also close windows when I'm done with them, and I don't have the windows restore automagically when I quit and relaunch my browser. All told, it seems to be a much healthier way to browse.. ..both for my sanity, and for my computer/web browser who don't choke under the oppressive strain of 200 websites loading at once.
Nope. I was cured of that when sites started embedding video clips that autoplay. I really hate, hate, hate (though maybe it bothers me more than it should) when I open several tabs to different news items, and they all begin jabbering away at the same time. Now I just open one at a time so that I can hit the Pause button on the inevitable low-life blood-sucking abomination of vapid video embeds before they run.
@rockblossom Flashblock (or a script blocker)
I don't think I've ever had more than 8 tabs open at a time. I guess I just don't browse that many different sites at once. I close a tab when I'm done with it. If I need to go back to that site, I just open a new tab and re-browse to it.
I love them and rapidly get from 20 to 30 open in a window at a time. But I'm kinda with @jsh139: after about 8, I don't think it's functional. My answer is to have three or four windows each with multiple tabs. When I'm on a search, I'll often have the google in one tab and open all of the hits I'm curious about in others, and have that window devoted to that topic; then I might push 40 tabs. Sometimes I do a bookmark all just so I can close them all and end the madness. And I have an extension that quickly recalls recently closed tabs. On my mobile devices, I quickly get into the double digits, but find more than 6 to not really work. I use Pocket to backburner stuff there.
BTW, the recent tab restorer is called Sexy Undo.
I try to keep it under 20, in a few different windows usually. This machine doesn't have a ton of RAM and those tabs are a killer. I also discovered a Chrome Extension called Session Buddy that saves all open tabs for reference which is a lifesaver. If I open a tab for something I want to check out later, I'll save all open tabs in Session Buddy and go back to it - eventually.
My Wife, however - she must have dozens of tabs open at any given time. Firefox was crippled by the strain so I installed Chrome for her. Guess what? Now she has BOTH browsers running with access to twice as many tabs! Can't win.
@MrHappypants Thanks for the extension tip. Looks cool. I think this might replace my bookmark all in most cases. Awesome sauce.
So here's the question I have for multi-tabbers: do you keep your taskbar on the bottom? Because the same impulse that drives me to multiple tabs compels me to put my taskbar on the right (used to be the left, but I've decided I like it better on the right; keeps my primary monitor clear for the current task). More stuff is more accessible that way. And I love the pinning. Also, I have several sites (mostly cloud apps) pinned via Chrome's "create application shortcuts." That rocks my world.
@joelmw I like my task bar on the top, though that might also have something to do with the little piles in front of my monitor.
@joelmw My taskbar AND my tab bar are at the bottom - less mouse movement that way.
I have 268 Chrome tabs open right now. The aptly named TooManyTabs extension keeps track for me. I have another 300+ saved as links in OneTab.
I have no Firefox extension to tell me, but there are many open there as well - though I think it is under 50.
I have two tabs open in Internet Explorer. That is too many for IE to handle.
Yes, people who have viewed my computer monitor while I have a browser open have considered staging an intervention. It gets worse with multiple monitors.
Yep, I'm a tabber! But I try really hard to keep it under 10 at all times (which is next to impossible). That's why I use OneTab for those "just-in-case" times when I think that I'll ever really want all 50 tabs saved. Google Keep is also a nice place to store the links that I will actually need.
His shift+esc sometime while you're in Chrome -- each of those tabs is eating up my memory like crazy!
Wow. I thought 4 at a time was a lot.
@ceagee I know for me if I have over ten open, my computer tends to choke.
I don't like more than about 10-20 in chrome since the become Icons, Normally I have about 6 open, Meh Forums is usually one
Doesn't anyone here remember what BOOKMARKS are for? ;-)
@ruouttaurmind Yep. They're for bookmarking things that you're willing to close now but you want to open later. As opposed to, say, the handful of things that you need to keep open. I've probably got thousands of bookmarks.
I usually have several tabs open in chrome. I have problems with any browser remaining stable after installation. And shockwave/flash seems to crash frequently.
I tend to have 4-20. 4 normally, 20 when I'm catching up on forums I follow. Really, more than 10 open bugs me.
@Thumperchick
Haven't any of y'all ever heard of bookmarks or Pocket? What happens when something crashes and you lose your 8 billion tabs?
@Moose https://meh.com/forum/topics/are-you-as-in-love-with-browser-tabs-as-i-am#5455abed59c05c3803af374d
@Moose I use Pocket and bookmarks heavily. Thanks for asking. ;-)
@Moose what happens is chrome just loads all those tabs I had open again when it restarts.
I tend to have 3-4 windows open each with 20-30 tabs
I don't see the point of more than a few tabs. I always open links in new tabs because back buttons are sloooooow. But I open the tab, I read it or do work in it or something, and I close it. And, this being the Internet, anyone who disagrees with me is clearly wrong.
@editorkid I've noticed that you people who are wrong on the internet are often unjustifiably arrogant like that.
@joelmw ... wait. Are you saying that I disagree with myself?
@editorkid You may, but nobody really cares about that. The important thing is that you disagree with me.
People, especially @hart and @ChadP, constantly make fun of me for the number of browser tabs I have open.
It makes total sense to me considering I open every topic I haven't caught up on in a new tab and read through them all and reply before closing them and refreshing my https://meh.com/forum tab and seeing what's new.
But this being the internet, I usually have like 5-10 other tabs that aren't the forum open at any given time.
@JonT Don't lump me in with @hart and his bullshit. I'm a fan of your tab use. I currently have 15+ open.
@ChadP Currently at 16 tabs. I win.
@hart 21, and that's after closing most of my forum tabs.
@JonT That's my method as well.
About 10 is my max, and I close them regularly. I hate having anything open that I'm not actively using.
