Data Privacy Day (known in Europe as Data Protection Day)[1] is an international holiday that occurs every 28 January.[2] The purpose of Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices. It is currently observed in the United States, Canada, India and 47 European countries.
I quite like the idea of this one, but I fear it is honored more in the neglect of it than in the actual observance or awareness.
I suppose a good way to protect privacy would be to change email addresses every so often (and by change I mean delete one address and create a new one.)
Of course, it would make communication between people a bit harder, but it would make things fun.
@lordbowen that’s fairly popular around here. If it falls on a weekend, there’s usually the pirate fest that day. We even had a rapping pirate band. They were pretty funny and I dislike rap.
@lordbowen Was it the Facebook? Or maybe even dating back to MySpace? There was a setting that would change the site CSS to Piratespeak. Everything was presented like Captain Jack Sparrow after a bit too much rum.
@ruouttaurmind It was back at the turn of the century. One of the head honchos would send out an email first thing about it. After that everyone was on their own. My favorite thing to do was print out a bunch of Rs in different sizes and fonts on colored paper and then place them on the inside of doors, cabinets, etc. Anyone who found one invariably had the same reaction: eye squint, minor head shake, then the mouthing of “R?” Most people got it pretty quick, especially if they spotted me laughing in their general direction. Only a couple had to have it explained to them. Lots of fun that lasted all day. Some truly priceless reactions.
I guess it makes sense. As much sense as “National Chocolate Covered Cashews Truffle Day” does, I guess.
It makes more sense. “National Chocolate Covered Cashews Truffle Day” is arbitrary - putting “National Surprise Drug Test Day” on April 21st puts it right on the day after 4/20.
If I answer, do I have to take a drug test?
If yes, will the test be a surprise?

@f00l Yeah, privacy seems to become a concern only after shit happens.
@narfcake
Shit so rarely respects Data Privacy.

@PlacidPenguin
Hell, we might as well just have actual conversations if we’re going to go to all that trouble.
@f00l
This tactic has advantages.

@f00l
Why would I want actual conversations with people?
Also, I blame you for this:
@PlacidPenguin
I will accept that I am to be blamed for any and all quality chocolate.
As to why conversations … why any given activity, ever?
Perhaps, because it’s there?

@f00l
I try not to interact with many people.
Also, I have something in my fridge to distract me from chocolate, but I dunno how long they’ll last…
National Talk Like a Pirate Day was big at my (pre-retirement) workplace. People would even dress up for it.

@ruouttaurmind Facebook. I believe you can still do it.
@lordbowen
Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Oh that’s why everyone keeps asking me to piss in a bottle for them.

Well, that looks a lot worse than it is:
Reminds me of the kind of stuff I saw at my local tavern’s Science Night last night.
@stuartpb Tomorrow is National Unemployment Day.
@narfcake Does that mean the unemployed have a holiday from work?
@Kidsandliz A permanent holiday.
June 5- Festival Of Popular Delusions Day
@narfcake does election day qualify? It is exciting but usually ends up as a ridiculous “national-WTF-are-we-celebrating” day.
@elimanningface Yes!
