11It’s still mid-March when I post this, but this deal is for April 2nd, 2018. From 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM only, you can get a free lunch combo at Little Caesars.

Wow. Up and at 'em!
@f00l FTW!
I now have so much diarrhea to look forward to.
Is that what they mean by April showers?
Audible: Buy 3 books for 2 credits, going on now at Audible.com
I just saw that Sunday, March 25 is the last day for the 12 credits for $100 deal. So you can turn that into: 18 books and a Alexa Dot for a hunnert bucks. That’s definitely a deal.
This is one of the titles available in this Audible B2G3 Sale. If you’re a fan of non-space near-future post apocalyptic sci-fi, I highly recommend. Definitely one of my favorite books. For reasons which escape my comprehension, they’ve classified it in the Fiction category rather than sci-fi.
Aukey, via Amazon is offering a AUKEY Jump Starter with 400A Peak Current & 12000mAh for Car Battery, Boat, Motorcycles, Lawnmowers and More for $33.54. Be sure to activate the “39% off one item” offer on the product page before adding the item to your cart. I have no idea how long this discount offer will last, so if you’re interested, don’t drag your feets!
According to C3 this is about $10 less than the lowest previous low on this item (early September 2017). This is definitely the lowest price I’ve seen on a portable jump starter battery. FWIW, I have five or six AUKEY brand devices and have been satisfied with them all. Maybe not Samsung or Sony quality, but a step above the average Chinasian junk.
@ruouttaurmind
I wanted the boat, but I decided to wait for the box
I didn’t end up get the box either though.
Sigh…
@PlacidPenguin Boat?
@ruouttaurmind
Boats? @CaptAmehrican has a lot to say on the topic.
Instead though, I’ll just post this video:
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind
No. The reason I DID NOT post that is because I did not get the box.
Silhouette Cameo 3 (Black) bundle time at Woot! again. $190 plus tax.
@ruouttaurmind here is another deal from woot… I almost think it is better??? it is missing 1 mat, and swapped the pens and vinyl kit for silhouette vinyl, but it has an upgrade on the software… and it is 187.99
https://home.woot.com/offers/silhouette-cameo-3-spring-craft-bundle?ref=w_cnt_cdet_home_dly_img
@mikibell I saw that last night. The <$200 bundles are coming with more frequency. Perhaps this is the new norm. I’m curious to see if they’ve got something new in the works at Silhouette?
Sphero R2-Q5 robot $80 at Best Buy. This is a great deal.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sphero-r2-q5/5863602.p?skuId=5863602
@sammydog01 Noooooooooo…
It’s beautiful! I must resist…
@mfladd I bought R2D2 in lieu of a spring break vacation. I love him sooooo much.
@sammydog01 Showing $100 for me – maybe I missed the deal?
@ACraigL It was a daily deal. I think you can still get an R2D2 with a force band at Sphero.com for a hundred bucks, $90 if you get the new subscriber coupon. I let R2 run around the kitchen for company when I cook.
@sammydog01 you sound like a fun mom.
@RiotDemon My teenagers would disagree.
/giphy eyeroll
@sammydog01 Bah. I’ve seen that look enough to last me a lifetime.
@sammydog01
Unless @RiotDemon was being sarcastic?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@PlacidPenguin I’m pretty sure @sammydog01 is really great to her kiddies. No doubt @RiotDemon recognizes this.
@ruouttaurmind
Most definitely.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I always knocked that look right off their face.
Audible.com. If you don’t already have an active membership, sign up for one of the many free trial membership offers and get 1 or 2 free books as well.
@ruouttaurmind
Credits cost around $9-$15 each, depending on state tax and what kind of credit subscription.
So this sale is only great for books that, after discount is applied, cost less than the cost of a credit.
For all that, this is a decent sale. Just want people to be aware.
(New subscribers may not be able to purchase extra audiobook credits vwhenever they want, as long time subscribers can. Not sure.)
@f00l I just had a peek at my wishlist, and didn’t notice really any difference in pricing. The cash prices are still too steep, even after the 30%. American Gods for example is still over $20. MUCH better off buying a credit for that one.
@ruouttaurmind
The assumption I have during these days us that only a few books will end up being cheaper than a credit.
I’ve been looking for a super cheap phone to use as a dedicated digital media player (audiobooks, music, video streaming, etc). I plan to use it “unactivated” via wifi (using hotspot on my primary phone while in the truck) so I don’t have to pay for yet another cellular plan. I could even use it for sat nav I suppose.
Walmart has the ZTE Z Five 2 LTE (locked to Straight Talk Wireless), normally $50, reduced to $15 with free pickup in your local Walmart store. My total was just over $16 incl. tax. Picking it up on Wednesday.
This is a pretty basic Android handset, but not the absolute bottom of the barrel. It ticks all my marks for my needs:
-Bluetooth 4.2
-5 inch, 1280x720 IPS display
-802.11 b/g/n (dual band wifi!)
-GPS, A-GPS
-Android 6 “Marshmallow”
-8GB internal storage, expandable with microSD card (32GB)
-5MP rear, 2MP front cameras
-Modest 6oz. weight
ZTE’s product page is here.
This model is commmon enough I’ll be able to get a cheap case from eBay without trouble.
@ruouttaurmind Just buy a used ipod off of ebay. I got a good one for my grandson for 50.00.
@lseeber I have a iPhone, and I’m looking forward to fussing about with the Android phone to see if it addresses some of my challenges with iOS, plus… $16 is less than $50ish.
@lseeber @ruouttaurmind It will. You’ll just have all new, different challenges with Android.
@ACraigL Well, my primary goal is to have a audio device I can leave in the car. Something loaded up with my audiobooks and maybe a bit of music. I’m confident it will do at least that much.
@ruouttaurmind I use a crappy Fire tablet for that.
@ruouttaurmind Ah… ok, gotcha.
I picked up this phone at Walmart on Wednesday. For $16, it’s not bad. The display is surprisingly bright and crisp (for a $16 device). After loading up my Audible app, and apps for banking and security/surveillance monitoring, plus an app for custom notification tones, it’s still reasonably responsive. At least as responsive as my hobbled iPhone (usable, with an occasional stutter in response).
As much as a “leave it in the car” media player, I am using this as an opportunity to consider abandoning iOS and heading back to Android. The only bummer would be losing the coordination between my iPhone and iPad. I use the iPad more than I thought I would to send/receive txt and calls.
But I digress… For sixteen bucks out the door, I’m satisfied. If I was a StraightTalk customer, I’d probably be downright tickled.
@ruouttaurmind
But then you’d miss being called Snookums.
Though Google Assistant could be set up to do that…
@PlacidPenguin Well, I don’t know if I’d miss it, but you are correct, I would no longer be associated with that sobriquet. Unless, in the future, I develop a romantic entanglement with a woman who’s inclined toward sugary pseudonyms.
@ruouttaurmind
Better you than me.
@PlacidPenguin Which? The romantic entanglement, or the sugary petname?
@ruouttaurmind
The latter.
@PlacidPenguin The former seems to be highly overrated as well.
@ruouttaurmind
But that’s beyond the scope of this thread, and surely not one which I’d get into here…
Ryobi ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion String Trimmer/Edger and Blower Combo Kit $68.88 at HomeDepot.com. Plus, shipping is free.
Very tempting. I like the color and it would be great not to be leashed to the power outlet when trimming along the street outside my fence. But I already have two of these things, it seems wasteful to spend 70 bucks on another one.
@moondrake 18v is ok if your yard is tiny.
@RiotDemon It is. And 90% of the front is decorative concrete, 90% of the back yard is mulch. It takes about half an hour to trim my yard, interspersed with half an hour fighting the string.
Also at Home Depot, Gorilla Ladders 22 ft. MPX Aluminum Telescoping Multi-Position Ladder with 375 lb. Load Capacity Type IAA Duty Rating for $99. Shipping is not free.
@moondrake They were on sale last yr also. Almost got one then. I’m in the process of sorting and packing for moving now tho… but after I get moved and settled… I gotta get me one of those.
Skechers Performance Go Step Lite Ultrasock (Women’s) $29 with free shipping. Black, grey or taupe. Great reviews.
I’m trying to drink more water and started playing with an infuser bottle I got last fall. So far I like it and started looking for a second one. Guess who has them cheap? Morningsave. One is even purple. They were sold here in bundles but this is a better deal.
https://morningsave.com/deals/4-pack-cool-gear-28oz-ripple-infuser-water-bottles-3
@sammydog01 I love purple.
So todays deal has me again thinking of a home security system. I would prefer one that has smartphone push notifications and does not require a monthly monitoring fee.
After doing some research I am really interested in systems by ismartalarm which as some great reviews (google search). They are having a great sale on cameras and packages right now. For instance the iKEEP Camera PRO is $100 after code - amazon is selling it for $169. Many packages have code sales, and they also have a 20% refer a friend discount (for both people - excluding cameras). If anyone is interested let me know and we can share a discount.
Here is the site:
https://www.ismartalarm.com/packages
cc: @ruouttaurmind
So here’s an okay deal for pet lovers, I haven’t comparison shopped but these are expensive so I think the price is good. I am mainly sharing it for it’s nonsense claim.
2lb Bag Polkadog Cod Skins $61.41, Code extra20 may bag you 20% off (it says it’s applucable in two places and not applicable in one, this is a Groupon)
All of that’s okay, but these jokers claim the price is 99% off the regular retail price of $8,290.35.
@moondrake haha, what a joke.
https://www.chewy.com/savory-prime-cod-skin-fish-strips/dp/158357?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=f&utm_content=Savory Prime&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqsHWBRDsARIsALPWMEMC_PR3CefkRZFLkMh1HXpHskki-wjgdmyV1_uGAygDs3YORFmcVRcaAqibEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
@moondrake I looked and the same brand on chewy is $60.
That’s some expensive fish skin.
@moondrake @RiotDemon Especially for something you would have thrown in the trash.
@sammydog01 my dog would probably eat it cuz it smells like garbage.
Maybe I’ll save the fish skin next time.
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 Cod and Salmon skins are my dogs’ favorite treats, I just can’t afford to give them regularly.
Not sure if this is such a good deal, but you can get this massage chair for $30 on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142752330499
At the worst, it’s a broken or fake chair, but then the seller has to pay for return shipping.
Tempted to buy it just for fun.
/8ball Should I buy it?
Don’t count on it
/8ball Should @PlacidPenguin buy it?
It is decidedly so
@narfcake
I’d sooner buy more catshirts from penguinshirtwoot.
@narfcake
Had a feeling you’d edit it…
@PlacidPenguin
@narfcake
Wow, what an oxymoron.
@narfcake @PlacidPenguin Seller with 53 pos feedback, and zero transactions in the last year.
Looks legit to me!
Nope, at worst it’s a total scam from someone who hacked an inactive account and will never ship anything, then abscond with the funds.
@ruouttaurmind
So… No massage chair for the penguin?
Probably for the best.
And honestly, I could think of worse scenarios, such as whole I’m using the chair, the seller comes to my house and harvests my organs.
*while
@narfcake @PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind Not to mention, the positive feedback is only as a buyer. They have none as a seller.
@cinoclav @narfcake @ruouttaurmind
Not to mention the location.
I mean, ‘Washington’ is such a fake sounding location.
@cinoclav @narfcake @PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind I reported this listing.
@medz Me too. I hate scammers.
@medz @ruouttaurmind
Reported it.
Twice.
(Would have been more, but I’m still dismayed that eBay suspended an account of mine 15 minutes after creating it without my having done anything on it.)
@PlacidPenguin
I hadn’t considered that. The chair arrives, but upon your first use, it grabs you, and locks you in place as articulated penguin-plucking robotic arms emerge from the back of the chair?
@ruouttaurmind
And this is why I want a coral snake.
@medz @ruouttaurmind dang y’all. They removed the listing! How am I going to buy my $30 massage chair now??
@RiotDemon I located an alternative supplier for you. It’s a couple more dollars, but you’re probably worth it, ya?
For anyone who missed out on the Battle Worn BB8 with Force Band on Thursday for $69, Costco has the same bundle for $59.
@ruouttaurmind
Shame that I know in advance that I don’t really wanna buy this for myself to due Monday neglecting it after a few weeks.
@PlacidPenguin I’m right there with you. I don’t really want to own it, I just wanna fuss with it for a couple weeks. I’ve had less disposable budget since I gave the roommate the boot, so I’ve been practicing restraint with these kinds of purchases.
@ruouttaurmind
Tell ya what.
Buy it for yourself, and in a few weeks, I’ll buy it from you for $10 + cost of Priority Mail shipping (I’ll get the label and then send it to you).
@PlacidPenguin As generous as that offer is, Imma has to pass. Hard pass for me.
@ruouttaurmind
I was even willing to forgo the coral snake egg.
@PlacidPenguin There may be a coral snake somewhere in your future, but it won’t be coming from me.
@ruouttaurmind
Fine.
How about a lyre snake?
@PlacidPenguin Well, not as venomous at least. But venomous still. And as we already know, I don’t mess with no venomous critters.
@ruouttaurmind
@PlacidPenguin I frequently see javelinas out the back window of my office, and not uncommon to encounter a pack crossing the road during my commutes, and more commonly, during hikes. They are pack animals with a bad attitude and big, sharp teeth.
Horned lizards are not as common in this area as much these days. It’s also a protected species.
@ruouttaurmind
See? This is how negotiations (and compromises) work.
Walmart has the Sceptre U550CV-U 4K 55” Ultra HD LED HDTV on rollback for $250 with free shipping or in-store pickup (previously $400).
This is a “dumb” TV, so a perfect fit for your Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV or Chromecast.
My first LCD TV was a Sceptre. Bought it at Costco and they replaced the power supply board (they sent a repair person out to the house!) after 3 or 4 years. It’s still working now, or was last time I used it.
Daydream View VR (2017) for $49 at Best Buy. The 2018 version must be about to be available? (Back at CES, they showed a standalone version with Lenovo.)
The official GoPro store on eBay is offering a “recertified” GoPro Hero 4 Black for $130 with free shipping and a full 1 year GoPro factory warranty.
This was GoPro’s flagship model a couple of years ago and had a MSRP of $500. It does 4K/30fps (that’s a REAL 30fps, not some interpolated or upscaled frame rate like most of the off-brand 4K cameras). It also does 1080p/120 for super smooth slow-mo, and 30fps 12MP burst mode for stills.
I’ve purchased three “recertified” cameras from the GoPro store on eBay, and each one arrived in pristine “as new” condition. And again, includes the full 1 year GoPro warranty. I don’t even need one, but this price is so sweet I just can’t pass it by! LOL!
Free Peggle!
PC only, and needs the Origin client, but still. Fun, cute little game.
https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/peggle/peggle/standard-edition
Google AIY Voice kit is now less than $20 from most sellers. (There’s a new version out now that comes with a Pi W, but it’s $50.)
Board game sale at Amazon. Some top rated games like Terraforming Mars and both expansions on sale.
April Baby Box at Target, 8 items, $5, free shipping.
Up to 80% off Star Wars gifts at Think Geek.
In honour of World Book Day, Audible is giving away three audiobooks: Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne, Emma by Jane Austen, and that effing whale book which is just too damn flowery for me to enjoy by Herman Melville.
I don’t know if you need a current, active subscription, but you will need to create at least a free Audible account.
Hurrah books!
/giphy hurrah books
Well, that’s more like “meh, books” but whatevs.
@ruouttaurmind Thank you. This will make up for twisting my arm to buy that radio.
@ruouttaurmind
So…
They give a book about a whale for free, but you have to buy penguin books.
I approve.
@PlacidPenguin Don’t read too much into it. It’s because nobody wants to pay for that fluking whale book, not a statement on the value of whales compared to penguins.
@ruouttaurmind
I’m starting to feel like you bear some resentment against that story.
Never read it myself though.
Audible is blocked at work, but Amazon isn’t. I haven’t linked my Audible and Amazon accounts. I can “buy” the Audible book for free via my Prime account, but it’s not clear if that commits me to an(other) Audible membership. Or is “Audible Channels for Prime” a different thing? Bah.
@walarney It didn’t force me to do anything–I don’t have an Audible account.
@walarney I have an audible account but not the monthly subscription- I was able to buy these without starting a subscription. I also buy the daily deal audible books once in a while.
Audible Channels for Prime is different- you need an Amazon Prime membership but not an audible one. Usually those books are free but streaming only.
@walarney
A regular audible purchase “commits” you only to an audible account. Which you already have thru your amazon account.
Am audible membership is a subscription thing. Unrelated to individual purchases.
If you buy sufficient bikes from there amazon site they will go into an quicker account linked to your amazon login.
If you have an old uid-type audible amount, any purchases there will be separate until you decide to link the accounts.
Ie twp separate logins to get to your entire library unless you link the accounts.
/Left over from the days when audible was not part of amazon.
@walarney
Omgy typing/swiping.
Apologies to anyone who tried to read that.
@f00l I thought maybe…
My Spice Sage sale, free shipping. Over soon.
I saw a Zoomer Chimp (aka Monkeybot) at my local Toys-R-Us for $30. When will I learn to stop going to Toys-R-Us? I guess in a couple of months when they finally go belly up.
@sammydog01
I’m assuming you didn’t get me one…
@PlacidPenguin What happens at Toys-R-Us stays at Toys-R-Us.
@sammydog01
Tell that to the internet.
@PlacidPenguin @sammydog01 Deals weren’t that great yet at local Toys-R-Us. Also, discount math is hard!
@medz The math is easy, it’s obviously the mathematical symbols that’s hard. % <> $
@cinoclav 'cept everything else was discounted in percentages not dollars. It very well could have scanned at the correct price, but I don’t need a $100+ light saber.
@medz Same here- most things were 10 to 20% off. The Zoomer unicorn was $80 but chimps were on clearance before the coupons. And yes, it rang up differently than the price on the tag. I expect all the employees who could do math have found new jobs.
@sammydog01 Yeah. I have a feeling the cashier guy was a temp. He apparently dropped/lost one of my items. (I put 4 of the same thing in the hand basket) Of the 4 of those I had in there, I got charged for 2 and somehow made it home with 3.
He was also marking out the barcodes by drawing a horizontal line with a marker. Not sure why…wouldn’t prevent it from scanning.
@medz I know they screwed up the math. But my reply was at least creative, no?
Free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition + GWENT Card Keg when you subscribe to the GOG newsletter: https://www.gog.com/gwent-welcome-bonus
@dashcloud you have to have GWENT already as well.
Got this email a little while ago from Google because of their Local Guides program:
I don’t go to movie theaters though…
@sammydog01
Want my code? Or would you prefer to just use MoviePass?
@PlacidPenguin Thanks but my movie pass works just fine.
@sammydog01
NOW who am I supposed to give a free movie ticket code to?
Sheesh.
(Turns out that some people are getting free tickets, others are getting $5 off, and others are getting nothing.)
@PlacidPenguin Now I feel bad.
/giphy guilty dog
Bad, bad giphy.
@sammydog01
Those eyes are disconcerting, though it may just be the the light shining off of them.
@PlacidPenguin That’s what you find disconcerting?
@sammydog01
Clearly the dog in the gif is trying to use the stuffed thing as a ladder in order to make it onto the bed, but he keeps on slipping.
@sammydog01 give it to your kiddo?
(Not the gif, gross. )
@RiotDemon Oh yeah, I forgot I had kids for a while.
Sugar River (By Jack’s Links) Snack Sticks - Choose Original or Spicy! - 2lb Bag - One Bag for $14.49 or Two or more for $12.99 Each! - SHIPS FREE!
@moondrake Sadly, the spicy is sold out.
eBay really wants people to use the app, so from time to time, they offer bonus eBay Buck percentages, as well as promo codes for discounts.
Amazon has the Sphero R2-D2 robot on the deal of the day for $69.99 (refurb)
https://smile.amazon.com/Sphero-R2-D2-App-Enabled-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07BMVB42S/
@ACraigL Damn I paid $100 in March. This guy is a lot of fun if your floors are clean.
@sammydog01 My wife would give me an audible eye-roll if I got this thing. I got the Cozmo robot some months ago. She was amused at first, but ultimately went with “stupid waste of money”.
I can’t see this going any differently.
