1015 Minutes of Fame -or- Brush With Greatness
Galactic Goat has mentioned before, he’s lived quite a bit of life in his relatively short visit to this planet.
In some of his previous lives, the Goat has been in the position to experience 15 minutes of fame (more like 15 seconds) and has had a brush with greatness more than a handful of times.
What is meant by “brush with greatness”? Well, an encounter, or interpersonal relationship with a person of some notoriety.
For example, a few years ago the Goat was physically assaulted by the Hoff in the lobby of a Laughlin, NV hotel. It’s not really that obvious when seen on TV, but David Hasselhoff is an imposing figure at 6’4" tall and 200lbs. When all that comes at you in drunken aggression it’s a bit intimidating.
Other brushes with greatness include meeting the WoZ at the Apple campus in Cupertino, CA, then later that evening having a beer with Alan Thicke while watching a '49’ers game at a local pub. Introducing John Stamos and R. Lee Ermey at a… World of Wheels (or was it Autorama?). Galactic Goat has had the pleasure of meeting a handful of musicians like Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, Michelle Branch, Flea, Stevie Nicks, Etta James, Bobby Blue Bland, Ruth Brown and the incomparable BB King.
Of the personalities Galactic Goat has had the pleasure of making an acquaintance, he would have to say BB King and R. Lee Ermey were the most obliging, cordial, genuine, warm. R. Lee Ermey was completely without pomposity and was exceptionally accommodating. Mr. Ermey stayed nearly 90 minutes beyond his contracted schedule (and without additional pay) to make sure he was able to meet and greet every single person who stood in line to have his autograph.
The Goat’s (literal) 15 seconds of fame occurred when he was a software engineer and press rep for a tech company. While attending a Macworld Expo trade show in Boston, Galactic Goat was interviewed by a producer from NBC Nightly News. About 8 seconds of the interview, along with 6 or 7 seconds of B roll demonstrating his company’s product appeared on NBC Nightly News (with Jane Pauley filling in for Tom Brokaw).
So how about it peeps? Share your tales of 15 minutes of fame or brushes with greatness!

I’ve done several deeds that became famous in one way or another…
I think those cover the high points. I’ve also met a couple of cool celebrities when I was working with World of Wheels. Those are fun but hectic shows.
@djslack Trent Reznor threw his mostly full water bottle into the crowd at a concert, it landed in my arms, upside down, and ruined the photo book that I had just purchased.
I might still have the book somewhere. I didn’t keep the water bottle.
@djslack care to share the prank?
@RiotDemon why not, the statute of limitations has long since run out. It’s in the middle of this list. The article is incorrect, though, in that it went on for over a year and was never fixed to my knowledge, it was just shut down
@djslack define middle… The song change prank?
@Kidsandliz Yes, that one.
@djslack Ha! I play the carillon. Clearly they had fake bells. They should have been able to change it back easily unless you guys did something else to it other than program in a different song. Guess no one there had any idea what to do with it. Likely they had to wait until someone from the company came out to fix it. LOL
I’ve been on the news twice. Once was when someone got airlifted out from the barn I rode at because they were afraid she broke her neck (she was fine.) They didn’t let the news crews on the property, so they filmed right at the front gate. I happened to be walking a horse up and down the main road where they filmed.
The second time was for a volunteer project. I was laying pavers and they put the camera on the ground in front of me where you got a great view of my shoes, and then they panned upwards in the most unflattering way possible. I wanted to die when I watched it.
I met Twiggy from Marilyn Manson in my teens. He was at the local movie theatre. We got his signature on some slips of paper we got from the concession stand. I was going to see either a rereleased Star Wars film or one of the prequels. Not sure. Ended up sitting right behind him… And being really distracted by his big dreads, lol
Did a meet and greet with 3-11 that we won tickets from the radio station. I didn’t care much about it, but it was still fun.
Did a meet and greet with Apocalyptica last year. Doing a meet and greet with Amorphis tomorrow.
If there was anyone else, I don’t remember.
I once met Buddha - ok, it was actually just a fat Hare Krishna at the airport, but he said his name was Buddha and told me he wanted to give me enlightenment (a book) for a small donation.
@mfladd And are you now enlightened?

@ruouttaurmind
If @mfladd is enlightened, then in his infinite humility, he hides it well.

@f00l
@mfladd is the second humblest living thing which I know.
(And no, I’m not the humblest living thing I know.)
@PlacidPenguin
And @f00l is the first most humblest living thing? Of course!!!
Oops.
Wait a min. I think @f00l might be the first most mumblest living thing.

I guess @mfladd wanted a light breakfast.
(I’ll see myself out.)
@PlacidPenguin
@f00l is quietly mumbling most mumbly and leaving the last seen scene now.
It’s all jumbled up.

@f00l
I’d make a comment about one of my most enjoyable office/desk products, but allegedly some people don’t enjoy paper clips.

@PlacidPenguin
Autocorrect “fixed” the word and gave me the wrong gif but it’s great and I must leave it.
Here ya go.

@ruouttaurmind I didn’t read the book, so no.
@f00l
Met briefly a fair share of famous people. But I will mention only Wilson Pickett.
Who sang “Mustang Sally” and “Wait Till The Midnight Hour” to me.
