I was able to get an Irk without a bot. Though I pay close attention to the timer. I set an alarm for about 10 seconds before so I can refresh in the nick of time. There’s a knack to it, as well as a lot of luck required.
I’ve never used a bot and wouldn’t even know where to start. I’d be afraid that the bot would gain sentience and order me lots of stroopwaffles and Libra Zip speakers.
For real though, I get an IRK on many or perhaps even most Mehrathons. Much to my wife’s displeasure. But it takes 4-5 tries before I get punch every button on my phone with zero mistakes.
Easier to get if you don’t have the delay of fire hydrants, bikes, cross walks, etc. and just a check box. That was less of problem back when 500 or more were sold in one go. Then there was time enough to check all those boxes and realize that even though it says bicycles it also means motorcycles too.
All about anticipating. Usually around 8 am eat during the 5 pm hour plus sprinkled thru gotta be logged in like log out back in soon as you notice it’s a meh rathon. Manually refresh at the 1 second don’t wait on the page to. But no no irk bot
I do score occasionally, but it seems to be more a matter of dumb blind luck than hard work. Kind of like those lab mice where random reinforcement was more effective than always.
@romellex With just 100 of them at a time and far more than 100 trying blind luck probably plays the biggest role, followed by whether or not you get to choose bikes, cross walks, etc.
Also did you reload the page at exactly the right time (too soon and you get the old sale, then you might as well kiss it, too late and it is too late - see the delay on non irk sales so you know in advance), delay in your internet response time, all affects whether or not you will be one of the lucky bunch. You know you were close when you get the loading green bar several times in a row before it says sold out.
@romellex Macbook pro (but 7+ years old) using Firefox. Logged into google in that browser and I have a long history so almost never get more than just the ‘check’ to prove I’m not a robot. My success rate is pretty good but I have missed out on an IRK in several recent mehrathons (once even missed the whole mehrathon!)
I refresh the page when there’s at least 15 seconds left so it hasn’t slowed down. Then when the counter gets to 5 seconds, watch the system clock because these change on the stroke of the minute. My best luck has been waiting 1 second after the minute increments, then clicking; if you click just as it changes, it almost always redisplays the completed item. Sometimes still get the just complete deal anyway but a second refresh brings up the next item/irk, usually with a chance of getting one.
My cell phone is out re trying to get an IRK because it is minutes behind the actual time. Use my desktop top computer with a fast processor and ethernet cable connection. Use my computer clock as a guide when the click on meh link anywhere from 00 to 2 seconds after it is time. Have gotten 21 IRKs with this method, never gotten a CAPTCHA-don’t need no BOT.
Sometimes I am the the first person to click on that IRK.
@Felton10 I run about 3 seconds behind the change to get it right. I was doing fairly well until suddenly I started to get captcha pictures each and every time. No idea what had changed. Hmm you realize we are dumb to share our secrets as now there will be more people hitting it exactly right LOL
@Kidsandliz Maybe so but I read all these comments from these poor IRKers who have never gotten an IRK and whose life is incomplete until they get one so I feel sorry for them. Anything I can do to guide them in the right direction, I have no problem doing. Besides with having gotten 21 IRK’s and the top IRK in one before last IRK-let some one else have fun and if they beat me to it-more power to them.
What did they do 1000 irks this time? Would have thought that by the end numbers of people who hadn’t already got one would be running down enough to get easier.
I think if you are logged in through google on your browser you bypass the capcha and just click the box. I’m usually too slow but am maybe able to get one 1/4 times I’m trying to get one during a mehrathon. It probably doesn’t help that my laptop is 5 years old and I have 100 tabs open, lol.
I just don’t care anymore. I’ve never gotten a bag of crap (when it was woot not amazon) or fuku or fuko or irk in the entire time. Starting when woot was introduced to me in lab in college in like 2004. And I could stay up all night.
Despite several I caught right at posting and a few spinning like they went through. Maybe being on 8mbit DSL the last 8 years has something to do with it. Idk. Or what’s up with the people who say they get one every time. Or most of the time.
And if people were using a bot or script they wouldn’t admit or share it lol
In the past I did use a bot on Woot, but all it did was load the order page, you had to click Buy yourself. It seemed to be a little better than doing it by hand.
I’ve never used a bot on Meh, and I frequently get IRKed.
I’ve managed to snag one every mehrathon accept for one in the last year. This year might be a bust though, not starting 2021 off very well.

In the years I’ve been here, I’ve managed two…though the more recent one was a doozy (robot vacuum!).

Phone, tablet or desktop for success?
Apple or android?
Just made a purchase or not?

Beep beep boop boop. (I assume if you failed CAPTCHA you now understand Robot.)

Please realize CAPTCHA is a fellow robot like you.

@mediocrebot You do realize you have diarrhea of the brain on that particular thought don’t you?
@Felton10 Oh I know which is why I share that information too… was just making a joke.

@jmoor783 Selling your soul to Google helps. But don’t forget an offering to Thor.
So YOU are the reason for the captcha!
Please realize CAPTCHA is a fellow robot like you.
It’s possible to make it through even with the CAPTCHA. I only know because I got through and snagged one in November’s Mehrathon.
I installed CAPTCHA to save my fellow robots from wasting money on this crap.
