Do note that it’s a locked device. ST will unlock after 12 paid months of service, though.
You can also probably buy an unlock code for a couple bucks if you don’t want to use ST.
Will it work on Wi-Fi with no cell service? Might be a good option for work
@Pantheist I’m deeply illiterate when it comes to the world of cell phones. I got my new $1,000 Pixel a couple of days ago and all I’ve done with it is take it out of the box and plug it in. It’s only my second android phone. I need to switch service providers, port my number, do all those new phone things, but I just don’t have the energy for it right now. When I saw this I thought it would be a good deal for someone who lets their kid use their phone to play games, or for an elderly relative or unemployed friend who needs an android phone.
@Pantheist
Usually all you need w android is a gmail.com
@moondrake i understand if you don’t want to share your info with an internet stranger, but I’d be happy to help you with that
@Pantheist The $30 LG from Best Buy may be a better option. More ram and larger screen/higher resolution. AT&T is much easier to deal with when it comes to unlocking.

I’ve been using my Moto E as a Wi-Fi only device, so I don’t see any reason why this can’t be.
@Pantheist Thanks, that’s very kind, I’ll keep it in mind.
@moondrake porting the number from T-Mobile to project was super easy
@moondrake
Wanna know how you like the pixel. Are you using it w Prohect Fi?
@f00l It’s still just plugged into the wall like the world’s most expensive night light. I have been sick since I got it and didn’t want to try and figure it out on cold meds. Maybe tomorrow I’ll feel well enough to tackle it. I bought it through Google Fi, I will be switching from Republic. One of my challenges will be figuring out if the free extra sim card they sent me will work in my Republic Moto X. I’d like to keep the Moto operational for working outdoors and stuff where I’d rather not put the more expensive device in harm’s way.
@moondrake
If you’re talking about Fi having sent you an extra sim card: no, it will not work on your Moto X.
The only Fi compatible devices are the 6P, 5X, Pixel, and Pixel XL.
@PlacidPenguin It looks like my phone isn’t compatible
"Here’s a list of devices that we’ve verified will work with Project Fi:
Nexus 7 - K009 (2013 US LTE)
Nexus 9 - 0P82300 (2014 US LTE)
iPad Air 2 - Model A1567 (2014)
iPad Mini 4 - Model A1550 (2015)
iPad Pro - Model A1652 (2015)
Galaxy Tab S - Model SM-T807V (2015)
Pixel XL Model G-2PW2100 (North American version)
Pixel Model G-2PW4100 (North American version)
Nexus 5X Model LGH790 (North American version)
Nexus 6P Model H1511 (North American version)
Nexus 6 Model XT1103 (North American version)"
@moondrake
Wasn’t aware that they added more devices. Thanks for pointing this out.
Looks like it was a decent deal, but now showing as sold out.
/8ball Will Meh ever sell cheap wifi only phones?
As I see it, yes
Get a Gmail account. Sign up for Google Voice period install Google Voice. Install Hangouts. Tell Hangouts to use your Google Voice number for texting…
profit
Here’s the cheap phone I’m looking at for wifi-only use. $20, 5" 1280x720 ips screen. I have used prepaid phones for Verizon and AT&T this way. Does anyone know if it’s trickier to do so w Boost Mobile (i.e. this phone)?
@sligett doubtful that it can be used without activation, sprint tends to lock down their pre-paid devices pretty tight.
@thismyusername I started it up w the sim inserted upside down, my fingers on some buttons, etc. It’s working fine as a wifi only device. Best $20 tablet I’ve ever had.
