Anyway, I like the infused anodized. It’s better than the hard anodized because you can use metal utensils and the non stick is infused throughout the whole pan so even the scratched parts are non stick.
@cengland0 I generally avoid non-stick, but I’ve been trying to use less oil so it might be good to grab a pair. If they get scratched is it bad to eat?
edit: nevermind. these are the hard anodized variety.
@RiotDemon I never did put large items in the dishwasher anyway. Just silverware, plates, cups, glasses, and small bowels. I wouldn’t put any pans, mixing bowls, or other things that would take half of the dishwasher. Makes more sense to wash those few items by hand.
@bzobes87@craigthrom Too bad the spell checker didn’t catch that bowel versus bowl error. They are both valid words but it doesn’t know the context. Oh well, maybe I shouldn’t be typing complicated words past midnight.
@sammydog01 some metals are really damaged by the caustic agents in dishwashing detergent… i think some aluminum gets white spots that seem almost like pitting, and other metals develop a black tarnish. Even other nonstick surfaces like Teflon and ceramic can wear faster because of the dishwasher.
I try not to let any pots and pans I give a shit about go into the dishwasher, but that doesn’t always happen.
@sammydog01 don’t know about these specifically. My last pans that weren’t dishwasher safe looked super dull on the outside and eventually the nonstick coating started to wear from the top edge.
@djslack Thanks for the info- I always stick my stainless pots in the dishwasher and I’ve had them maybe 30 years. I guess stainless is good for lazy people like me.
@RiotDemon The bleach in automatic dishwasher detergent reacts with the aluminum, causing it to oxidize. Not only does that dull the finish of the outside of the pan, but it creates a powdery coating that gets on everything. Once started, you can’t reverse it. Also, automatic dishwasher detergent is abrasive enough that it damages PTFE (“Teflon”) pretty quickly. The pan’s not going to melt if you put it in the dishwasher… but it will become ugly, messy, and not very nonstick. This isn’t specific to these pans; it’s true of any pots or pans made with these materials. If you want dishwasher-safe, you’re looking for stainless-steel-clad (e.g., “tri-ply” like some AllClad) and not nonstick (or at least not PTFE).
@HMroczkowski A quick google search found this quote from someone in the business.
“I am a product developer for a major retailer in Canada and I work on cookware. The reason why you can’t put Calphalon Hard Anodized cookware in the dishwasher is that it will discolour the grey exterior. It will change colour and the finish will be uneven. You can’t save it or try to refinish it once it has been through the dishwasher.”
@cengland0 This happened to me. It’s ugly but the pans still work. The handles are great, inside of the pan was fine…just the exterior of the pan looks crappy - uneven and feels different. I’ve continued to use mine for several years.
@RedOak From reading the Amazon reviews, these pans are paper thin too. Apparently they are the “Lightweight Version - not the heavy weight champion it used to be”
@reddinghill Are you saying that these pans are ceramic coated? Complete sentences sort of help.
Cause the amazon link says that they’re PFOA free, a chemical used in coating Teflon onto pans in the good old days, it is not listed as PFTE (Teflon) free or as being coating with ceramic. The Q&A on amazon say that the non-stick is Teflon… https://www.amazon.com/forum/-/Tx1B7NB6ZVQ5CHM/ref=ask_dp_dpmw_al_hza?asin=B001B1CJME
So, Amazon says they’re pfoa free and metal utensil safe which is nice. Down side is a lot of the reviews mention that there is a cheap version that warps easily and a sturdy version. Safe to assume this is the cheap version?
Torn-idiotic-river is about how I’m feeling after impulse-buying these to prove a point to a friend about how great Meh is and then reading the forum that’s, ahem, panning them
@RDW0409 Cheer up. I’ve had Anolon pans and pots for 13 years and I love mine (esp the 5qt saute pan). I’m buying these skillets because my teflon nonstick skillets are finally ready for replacing. I also have cast iron, and honestly, some recipes are better for different pans. Don’t let the haters get you down.
I’m neurotic AF about what goes into my body so also have been generally avoiding non-stick and only 3 weeks ago read about the dangers of cooking with aluminum (foil specifically)
Anyone have any knowledge or links showing the safety of this type of nonstick and weather aluminum cookware is also a potential health hazzard? cause i’d like to buy them if risk is low to paranoid. thanks
@ignoramus Apologies, but if you’re only three weeks out on worrying about aluminium foil…
Everything is potentially hazardous. These pans will be perfectly safe for you to use. The true “AF” neurotics will not be heating their food to the char/browning point…I think most of them are raw organic vegans.
thanks! I am now considering a purchase and discovered my tin-foil hat posses no immediate risk unless in direct contact with acid at very high temperatures
The Serious Eats list (and hundreds of Amazon reviewers) recommended the 10" skillet alone, with no lid, at a $60 price point And we’re selling the sale thing plus a 12" pan and two glass lids for much less.
Not sure what bothers me more about this sentence. Either the capitalized ‘And’ or that you’re selling the ‘sale’ thing? Maybe both equally? Or maybe it bothers me more than it should.
@cinoclav The capital ‘A’ is OK, but there is a missing period. There should be a point after ‘point’. And the ‘sale thing’ seems to be grammatically correct, but I agree that it just sounds wrong.
Hey, somebody from Wyoming did buy a couple of skillet. Raisin’ it up and waxin’ it down, in a little white box I can sell uptown. (No wait, that’s Montana)
Unless your entire cooking repertoire consists solely of omelets, there’s really no reason to buy non-stick pans. They’re fragile and can’t tolerate high heat.
I’m not panning this deal, but they’re aluminum with Teflon. Anodize (or analyze) all ya want, they’re inexpensive, and could scratch, dent, and cook unevenly. If you want higher quality pans, you should choose stainless steel, enameled cast iron, etc., and a better non-stick coating than Teflon (and pay way more). That said, Costco sells Tramontina brand cookware in 2 grades; the lower end (“Gourmet”) saute pan 3-pack (8, 10, 12", no lids) for $28 is a bargain.
Lids are rarely necessary for saute pans, and most people have old Revere lids lying around (or can get them from a thrift store for $1).
@sammydog01 You’re welcome. I’ve had the Tramontina 3-pack for several years (bought it on sale for $21) and it’s held up well. A few light scratches on the coating, and one did dent when I dropped it (DOH!), but their daily performance is excellent. For $7-9 apiece, another Costco treasure.
@krazy_krock Congratulations, you are now going to be $60 richer per year. It looks like you don’t buy much anyway or post much…meh. I’ve got a new home to stock up on crap I’ll be donating to Goodwill in a few years so I’m keeping my VMP membership.
At 1st I thought, “Hey, not dishwasher safe; well I can’t buy this!!” Then I realized I never use the dishwasher anyway, so I bought the pans & lids. Now my 92 year ole Mom wants an egg over easy, etc. for breakfast, and a grilled cheese for lunch! “Thanks,” she said.
I know why these ended up on meh. The coating can be damaged by wooden and plastic utensils. Modest pressure and a fingernail can wear down the coating with a few strokes. Anolon won’t address warranty claims. Lol.
The coating is damaged by Silicone spoons. I was actually comparing these with Calfalon when I convinced my wife to buy these. These ones are useless after 3-4 months of normal use.
They look like shit after 6 mos moderate use and low to medium heat only. Stained, and scratches from a silicon spatula. And not really that non-stick - in order for eggs to slide off easily, needed a light wipe with oil. Threw them out and went back to cast iron skillet - if you have to wipe it with oil, might as well use that, and probably healthier.

Heck yeah skillets!
That was a slow fucking load for some shitty pans.
@opshannon Pans aren’t shitty. The server may be, though.
@opshannon yeah! we want slow fucking loads all over everything.
@outz Skilletake!
@opshannon Be patient, the page will be more moist and flavorful if you slow-load it over a period of hours.
@awk Finally, an edgelord you’d want.
Alien-faced breakfast would be hard to face in the morning.
About time the forum for this showed up.
@Pantheist I’m not sure but I do know when you heat Teflon pans, it can emit gas that is bad for pet birds. It’s called “teflon toxicity”
@cengland0 I think you have to get them really hot for that- like forgetting to put food in them.
@sammydog01 I think you’re right and I don’t get my pans that hot. I do have a bird and he’s still alive – for now.
Shhhh… He’s looking at me. I think he knows I’m talking about him.
@cengland0 The bird knows more than you think, “It can fly, can you fly?” Ms. Shirley Temple
@cengland0 Awww, give him a cracker for me.
@cengland0 I keep a canary in a cage next to my parrot. When the canary keels over, I turn the heat down.
@sammydog01 No crackers in the house but he does like Honey Nut Chex. I’ll give him one for you.
He said, “Thanks.”
@rpstrong That’s terrible.
@cengland0 The parrot (a Norwegion Blue) seems to be OK with it - at least he never squawks.
@rpstrong The Monty Python Dead Parrot Sketch bird.
I live one zipcode over and can attest I will not be buying this.
@michaelahess Well, it looks like your neighbor did. Sorry Wyoming, you’ve been caught participating.
Not dishwasher safe.
Deal breaker.
@RiotDemon what would happen if you put them in the dishwasher? They wouldn’t rust or anything, right?
@RiotDemon I never did put large items in the dishwasher anyway. Just silverware, plates, cups, glasses, and small bowels. I wouldn’t put any pans, mixing bowls, or other things that would take half of the dishwasher. Makes more sense to wash those few items by hand.
@cengland0 and i have been over here using tp on my bowels like some idiot…
@cengland0 How small a bowel? Cow? Pig? Hamster?
@bzobes87 @craigthrom Too bad the spell checker didn’t catch that bowel versus bowl error. They are both valid words but it doesn’t know the context. Oh well, maybe I shouldn’t be typing complicated words past midnight.
@RiotDemon I’ve never put nonstick in the dishwasher. People do that? I don’t put knives in there either.
@awk I don’t either, I think the dishwasher soap always ruins the finish of both knives and pans of any type.
@craigthom I just stuffed a batch of boudin last night. The pig’s bowel is actually way bigger than i imagined.
@sammydog01 don’t know about these specifically. My last pans that weren’t dishwasher safe looked super dull on the outside and eventually the nonstick coating started to wear from the top edge.
@awk I break all the rules.
@cengland0 I live by myself so I go ahead and just put everything in the dishwasher because I don’t really have to worry about running out of room.
@djslack Thanks for the info- I always stick my stainless pots in the dishwasher and I’ve had them maybe 30 years. I guess stainless is good for lazy people like me.
@cengland0 You probably want to use analoff rather than analon, for cleaning bowels.
@RiotDemon The bleach in automatic dishwasher detergent reacts with the aluminum, causing it to oxidize. Not only does that dull the finish of the outside of the pan, but it creates a powdery coating that gets on everything. Once started, you can’t reverse it. @ravenblack You win the internet.
Are these better than the T-Fal professional ones I won on Woot? Anyone know?
@sammydog01 I don’t know, but I’m jealous of your win. Congrats! I’m sure the T-Fals are pretty sweet!
@therealjrn They are nice. I won them from Slydon’s game in December.

@sammydog01
Panning the sale tonight –
Sorry, I’m am Allclad guy…
Analon is one of my favorite songs! So romantic! ahh, memories…
@wew Only 80s crooner cooler than Byan Ferry is David Byrne solo.
@mike808 I had a Bass Beer with David Byrne while Robert Gordon was performing. I think I was about 16.
1982, Robert Gordon
@wew Best be rolling for this one. Engage autopilot.
@mike808 http://imgur.com/a/XTyqF
for no particular reason, it just seemed to fit.
Also, do you ever get the feeling Mr. Meh is furnishing his home with tax-deductible meh demos?
Would the dishwasher melt the handles?
@HMroczkowski It says they’re oven safe to 400 degrees so I don’t think so.
@HMroczkowski A quick google search found this quote from someone in the business.
“I am a product developer for a major retailer in Canada and I work on cookware. Isn’t “Analon” a Scientology front group ?
Substandard skillet skill so skipping.
@lordbowen Above average alliteration action, though.
@djslack …although?
Displaying paper thin aluminum cans next to these examples of fine cookery might not be the desired association.
@RedOak From reading the Amazon reviews, these pans are paper thin too. Apparently they are the “Lightweight Version - not the heavy weight champion it used to be”
How exactly do these pans help my friends and family deal with my drinking problem and dyslexia?
@djslack They use them to beat some sense into you.
I use cast iron and scrub them with chain-link, as in bullet proof vests.
@radi0j0hn Cast Iron is the best !
http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/slideshow/cast-iron-skillet-recipes
Um… why are they only $25 on Amazon yet meh is slapping a $34 powerpoint… what the meh.
@jusswunkorean Looks like $50 for the set of pans at Amazon without the lids. Do you have a link to $25?
Ceramic-coated aluminum my children.
@reddinghill Are you saying that these pans are ceramic coated? Complete sentences sort of help.

So, Amazon says they’re pfoa free and metal utensil safe which is nice. Down side is a lot of the reviews mention that there is a cheap version that warps easily and a sturdy version. Safe to assume this is the cheap version?
@Pantheist the only pan worse than a warped pan is a worn out nonstick pan.
@RedOak Cast Iron is the best !
http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/slideshow/cast-iron-skillet-recipes Bully for cast iron!

@Carebear that’s very kind of you
Are these the old, heavy models or the new, lightweight, crappy models?
@mehshark I guess we’ll find out by the number of hernias when we try to lift the box
I hate to pan this offering, as I know Meh believes they are going to skillet in sales, but they really should just put a lid on it.
@El_Oel ooo you’re trying too hard.
@El_Oel Guess it didn’t quite pan out. Sear you again tomorrow for another fry.
@gyozilla That’s the way you do it!
I’m neurotic AF about what goes into my body so also have been generally avoiding non-stick and only 3 weeks ago read about the dangers of cooking with aluminum (foil specifically)

@ignoramus if you’re worried, here’s a good article. Seems decent. I’ll stick to stainless. I can’t be trusted with a flame and a pan. https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2006nl/april/pdf060400teflon.pdf

No induction, no sale.
Hey, somebody from Wyoming did buy a couple of skillet. Raisin’ it up and waxin’ it down, in a little white box I can sell uptown. (No wait, that’s Montana)
@OllieJones Cause I’d be cooking my lonely PASTA SAUCE
Not the pot I need.
@Viper1 not a pot at all.
Unless your entire cooking repertoire consists solely of omelets, there’s really no reason to buy non-stick pans. They’re fragile and can’t tolerate high heat.
@devolve I only cook sticks so these pans are definitely not for me.
@MegaHenzoid
I’m not panning this deal, but they’re aluminum with Teflon. Anodize (or analyze) all ya want, they’re inexpensive, and could scratch, dent, and cook unevenly. FYI, Meh - when you don’t state induction compatibility I assume it isn’t (and don’t buy).
You know - in case you ever do sell an induction capable pan / cookset and want them to actually sell to induction users…
Finally did it…finally cancelled my monthly $5 donation to meh. Now i don’t have to feel disappointed every morning.

@krazy_krock Yes!!! And buying cheap stuff because it was cheap. You are way smarter than me.
