Android Oreo Meh Octopus
12I don’t think I’ve seen it discussed here, but my phone updated today and I noticed an Easter egg in Android Oreo is a Meh octopus with an Easter egg head. You can drag it around the screen and its tentacles follow.
Cosmic coincidence? Is an Android dev a Meh fan? You decide.

It’s the one Easter Egg since Gingerbread which I have never exactly fully understood.
(Excluding of course, the Easter Eggs used during Developer Previews.)
(As a nice touch, as part of 8.1, the treat choice for the neko cat easter egg was updated to an Oreo.)
@PlacidPenguin I was trying to do the Neko cat Easter egg to see if it was different when I got the octopus. I don’t know if it’s just a different number of presses or what.
@PlacidPenguin O for Octopus, 8 legs cause android 8?
@djslack
If you don’t have it as a quick tile (and you can’t add it as one), you could install QuickShortcutMaker, and access it that way.
(You could technically access any easter egg dating back to KitKat.)
@darkzrobe
Really? You’re going to give a logical answer?
This is Meh. There’s little to no room for logic.
@PlacidPenguin still a terrifying looking Easter Egg
@darkzrobe @PlacidPenguin but why the meh face on the octopus?
@katylava It’s supposed to be an android face
@medz ahhh, i see. i didn’t recognize it.
@katylava @medz
Removing the antennae from the Bugdroid (hmmm… should that be capital in this case?), has significantly altered how it looks.
@PlacidPenguin Octopi don’t haz antennae
@medz
But the Bugdroid does.
@PlacidPenguin maybe. I’m get back to you on that
@medz
What do you mean ‘maybe’?
Just look at the antennae!
(I have more stuff, but I’m not getting all of it.)
@medz @PlacidPenguin I frequently don’t get all of it either.
@djslack @PlacidPenguin I tried quickshortcutmaker but wasn’t able to launch the cat egg Is there a particular way you’re supposed to do it?
/image cat egg
@Seeds you have to add it to your notification drop down menu. If you pull the menu down and edit it, you can add the neko.
Did you already click the N a bunch?
If this has to do with the octopus, I have no idea.
/youtube neko Easter egg how to
@Seeds
(Keep in mind that I’m trying this while I’m the Android Phone DP3, with the cats already enabled.)
Go to QuickShortcutMaker, and navigate to Android Easter Egg.
Go to the activity which ends in NekoActivationActivity, tap it, and select ‘try’.
If the easter egg was not enabled, then you should see a cat icon popup. If you see a circle with the red border and line, tap it again.
Then, you should be able to add it to the quick tiles as @RiotDemon said.
@RiotDemon @Seeds
Ugh. Meant to write Android P DP3.
@medz is that octopus giving me the @carl669 salute?
@carl669 @djslack possibly. What’s interesting is I took 3 screenshots while trying to drag it around to get a shot of the arms stretched out and each pic had the same pose with the octopus in different spots on the screen. Weird.
And here I thought it was just Canadian.
