I was in charge of training for part of a national corporation. I didn’t get to go on camp outs and cool stuff like that. I got to teach staff while all of us were working to maintain production, sales and keeping the customers happy.
It was a lot like building our boat riding in a fast-moving current downstream. Fun times
Video is funny! And yes it can be easier to teach strangers than your own family - especially when you get dropped into the middle of a topic you have long since forgotten the finer details of.
I spent most evenings working with my kid (IEP). At times I felt like I was redoing K-12 myself. And of course like any normal kid she would try to manipulate me into doing her work for her. I had trouble not laughing when she’d say to me, “Mom you are doing it wrong. That is not how they taught us to do it.”. Busted! Me, “So teach me how to do it. Use one of your homework problems to show me.”. LOL. I did a lot of repeating, “Your work your problem, not mine. I already have my high school diploma.”.
Hopefully parents will, in the future, appreciate the teaching profession more after having gone through this.
The best part about this is that my 5th header and 7th grader keep telling me I am doing the math wrong. I get the right answers but I use different methods than they do.
@bleedmichigan I remember that from growing up. I never did understand the business of putting clothes line clips on the fingers of a stick man (where you could put 10 clips on one hand). My dad taught me how to do math in the “normal” way. Then the teacher would mark my work wrong even though I had the right answer and would “show my work” because I didn’t do it “that” way.
They’re almost as cool as my parents! My parents never had to home school me but they’re just as awesome! Sure as heck hope all your kids appreciate what you’re doing for them and for those who aren’t showing their love right now just give it time. I didn’t apologize for MY childhood until I was in my 20’s!
It was just Day of the Teacher last week, so well tuned even. I have never had so much fun at work as I did as a teacher. Kids are hilarious, and you should probably know that they will sell you out in a freaking heartbeat!! “No, I wasn’t sick, we went to Disneyland.” Etc. Hilarious!
Hats off to all you new home school teachers. I was a new teacher support provider in my last post, so if I can provide any support, let me know!
LOL! I’ve been a teacher. It’s not easy is it?

Great video! Just spent 20 minutes watching their parodies.
For people too lazy to click, as I was.
Their channel looks pretty entertaining.
