So I fired up my browser today, and my Amazon Lightning Deals tab looks like Woot!; WTF! I'm not going to scroll the page down like that to see crap I don't need anyway..
Here it is. And yeah, it sucks. Web designers often argue about sacrificing aesthetics for user experience or vice versa, but this manages to screw up both. Royally. In exchange for more white space than the laundry room at the KKK.
I stopped paying attention when they changed it from the simple layout of 1 deal on the left and the roughly hourly deals on the right. You used to get real actual deals then. When they changed it to hundreds of items every day at a very slight (If any) discount I stopped watching. It was far too hard to navigate all that stuff for an extremely minimal payout.
Amazon couldn't help but notice folks weren't paying much attention to the lightning deals so they figured, "Let's magnify the pics! Yah, that will do it."
That change occurred when they stopped offering a free Android app every day and, instead, began using "Amazon Underground." If you download this app, you get access to a package of paid apps which includes all the in-app purchases too.
Screenshot?
@Thumperchick Too much of a PITA to post a screenshot- http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=nav_cs_gb Used to show all the lightning deals in a navigable banner across the bottom, now it's all silly tiles
@CaffeineGuy I have it bookmarked - my page hasn't updated yet. But @Starblind hooked up the screenshot, so I see how funky it looks. Eww.
I still see the endless horizontal scrolling crap. Can never find anything in those... You using mobile device or something?

I noticed a change, too. Don't like!
If you go to See All, which is in the bottom right for some reason, that page lets you narrow down by category at least. Otherwise it's awful.
seriously.....who the fuck cares
@somf69 People whose user experience has been affected?
Still seeing the old one here, but based on that screenshot… yuck.
@brhfl same

Still better deals than woot ;)
Yah, it totally sucks.
But then, I stopped looking at lightning deals at least 6 months ago. They're 99% crap.

Amazon's all-thumbnails/no-info agenda continues apace.
