@f00l
Hey @Del? What’s the story here about Woot showing up inside Amazon?
When did that happen? Do Prime benefits apply i.e. free shipping? What about payment methods? Are those fully integrated?
Are they gonna put more and more of Woot into Amazon? Are they going to phase out the Woot.com website in favor of Woot just being inside the Amazon site?
Will the Woot forums stay separate and users be able to keep they separate identities?
Is there a FAQ or thread somewhere on either Woot or Amazon that explains all this?
@f00l mind tagging me if that gets answered in a real way? Looked just now, nothing yet, but I don’t want to deal with current woot staff.
The what is woot was kinda interesting though:Woot is an Amazon subsidiary unlike any other. It’s a place where over-production, surplus, and end-of-life products go to PARTY! We’ve been schlepping schlock at up to 70% off to mobs of deal-hungry online customers since 2004, and today’s specials are all for you. Eat up.
If you actually click on one of the deals, it still takes you to woot to complete the purchase. I don’t expect anything to change any time soon, other than amazon sending more traffic to woot.
Woah so many questions! That widget has actually existed for a really long time now but no one really noticed it because it was only linked to from the little Woot down the bottom of the main Amazon page. We didn’t even build it ourselves, some Amazon widget team used our API (the same one lichme uses) to build it.
However, we did notice that the Amazon deals page gets a LOT of traffic and figured they’d be big deal hunters who might also like what Woot does. But we of course needed to link to a page inside Amazon’s world so they were ok with it only if we pointed at the fancy widget - not Woot directly. It took a lot of talking and widget tweaking but we finally got to add that link up there where people can see it!
However it doesn’t mean anything other than Woot taking advantage of its parent company’s traffic to drive a few more peeps our way. Woot’s own marketing team and I were the ones who did all the work here and had to convince Amazon to let us. And this page is all Woot now and we want to continue to work on it as basically a full page advertisement for ourselves. In short, it’s all Woot which means our content, our systems, our order flow, our customer service, and our snark. On the other side, it means still no gift cards or Prime benefits. We are very much an independent entity and Amazon leaves us alone unless we specifically ask for help with stuff they’re good at. Expect to see some fun stuff on that widget but it’ll never be as awesome as our own Woot website or app!
I guess this means they really want me to link the two accounts.
Lol! They never asked me for permission. My intro to Woot many years ago (but clearly post Woot-sellout) was Amazon/Woot telling me they had copied my ID & PW over from Amazon and to go take a look. Not cool.
I’ve since un-syncronized them since as matter of security practice I don’t share credentials across sites. Nor do I log into other sites using my FB/Google/etc… credentials.
Mea culpa!!
Can you remove the Amazon image that shows a name - or just all the Amazon images - and if it’s ok, change any instances of the name in these forums? Thanks.
And if you click on the "Woot Deals link"
You go to the Woot page on the Amazon website which I have not looked at much yet.
(These are from Dec 26,2016)
{Link removed}
So does this mean Amazon is completing its digestion of Woot as the bargain basement?
Will Woot.com get more or less traffic if you can shop Woot from Amazon? Will Prime benefits apply? Anyone know the story here?

I guess this means they really want me to link the two accounts. Hmmm. Not yet.

@f00l feel free to ask the question over on woot.

@Pantheist
Yeah I checked the Woot forums last night, very cursory check, found nothing.
About to go create a thread over there in a min.
@Pantheist
Here is a link to the thread I created on woot.com to ask directly there.

If the thread gets some action, I’ll note it here.
@Pantheist
Lots of answers over at the Woot link

@f00l thanks! I’ll have to read this in a bit.

@RedOak
They have separate email addresses in my life.
I use them Amazon one to order wine from Woot. The orginal one for t-shirts.
I suppose Amazon duped them in both directions. Whatever.
If they’d let me use Prime … then I’d be thinking about it a little harder.
@f00l Well, did you ask over on Woot?
@sammydog01 Yes he did, hence the quoted answers above.
@narfcake Sorry, I thought those were old.
Hi {@f00l}!
@f00l male or female {@f00l?}
@looseneck
@Barney
@Thumperchick
I was thought that device and browser were logged out. It was late, my eyesight was blurry, I was careless and didn’t check closely.
I didn’t intend personal info about anyone in my life to appear. I was an idiot. How about we drop this for the moment?
I don’t mind the he regulars here knowing some stuff about me and some people in my life, including my gender.
But this is potentially public. My fault. I’d like to cut the damage for this moment. Once the name is gone, might answer the other question.
@thumperchick?
Mea culpa!!

@f00l Let’s try @moose, he was around earlier.
@moose Halp!
@f00l removed. Let me know if I missed a spot.
@Thumperchick to the rescue!
Well, it’s the best I could come up with in such short notice.
@Barney @thumperchick

@DaveInSoCal I seem to have this strange craving for peanuts.
@Thumperchick
I guess if you can, if you would also scrub the Amazon links that are part of my posts?
Can you do that?
The images and text on the image age appear to be clean.
Much thx again!
@Barney

@f00l I had no way to PM you and wanted to let you know you left some personal info.
@looseneck
Much much appreciated. Was in such a hurry all day - and then got hit by the Carrie Fisher death. Truly totally clueless.
I.E.
SNAFU
@f00l
@Barney
Kinda a broad hint there isn’t it?
Not to worry, it’s cool. Even charming.
Anyway, 2/3 of the population now has no idea who you are referring to.
I wonder if that museum is still open?
/image “purple palomino”
@Barney I met them in DC way back in 1981.
@f00l You calling one of my childhood heroes a broad?
@looseneck You must have been a wee little tyke.
@Barney
Only the horses. You were talking about the horses? Broad-backed and strong and beautiful. They were my favs always.
/giphy buttermilk horse
@f00l Horse pucky.
@Barney Not too wee, but a whoooole lot younger.
@f00l no problem.
@Thumperchick
Super lame sauce, bruh.
@medz
Sure.
