I’m predicting a lot of new topics complaining about the button.
WHY, Meh, WHY? Is this retaliation for the complaints about the Meh Button Calendar? Or is this just the newest Lab Rat experiment to see the reaction?
I will be happy with this button only when it comes with a little cannon on one side that we can aim and blow it into dust. With maybe a counter showing how many annoying buttons we have blown away. That would be kinda cool, actually.
Why is everyone upset about the placement of the new button. It’s not that big of a deal. It’s very pronounced in that location but it’s sort of out of place compared to the “(+) Add Comment” button you find in one of the forum threads. But changes happen and we can move on.
For symmetry, they should both be in the same place and work the same but that’s minor compared to the missing calendar and streak stats. But I’m not going to go so far as to complain about the new location of the button. I have bigger problems in my life to worry about.
@cengland0@sammydog01@therealjrn
I didn’t even notice it until I read someone’s complaint post. It barely takes up 3/56 of my phone browser’s display window.
@eonfifty not a browser problem. Mine is up to date and it is way too big and in the way. They should park it on the top, not covering anything, and have it stay put.
@eonfifty “they” need to update their coding to get the thing off of where the forum titles are and stash it either off to the side away from any text/not cover anything or anchor the stupid thing to the top. There is that big huge chunk of real estate at the top where the forum picture is, park it there. Or park it above the broadcast topics.
OR make it so we can hold down the mouse and move the thing out of the way. Better yet so we can drag it off the page and it goes “poof” and goes back to where it was - small, findable, not in the way - and make it stay there on our screen.
@Kidsandliz
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m ok with it. If anything, it should be moved to the left side of my screen so I don’t click it when I scroll through the topics with my thumb.
/giphy thumb scroll
@eonfifty
here you go for a photo, 13" laptop, all I can see of the forum titles (didn’t include the top bar, just all the threads I can see on my screen)
@djslack Yeah it sucks and is totally irritating since it blocks the view. And yes you can scroll but why limit my view on a smaller screen? Especially since there are placements where it won’t. I really think meh folks don’t test this shit on laptops. I think they look at it on big monitors and phones and don’t check to see what it is like on other sized computer screens. If they did they’d see the placement is irritating and blocks too much and move it. If it scrolled down the side, off the text, that wouldn’t be nearly as bad.
@djslack@Kidsandliz
I think all computer software people only test stuff on new and fancy equipment to force consumers to be constantly upgrading. It’s like nudged or forced obsolescence instead of just planned obsolescence.
/giphy it’s a conspiracy
@djslack@eonfifty@Kidsandliz I think it should start in the upper right corner where the [+ADD COMMENT] button is, same size and all, then stay in the upper right corner as you scroll down. That way it doesn’t cover new things as you scroll and it is out of thumbs way.
Actually, for consistency, the [+ADD COMMENT] and [+ADD TOPIC] buttons should behave the same on their respective pages. Especially if the behavior is the same on desktop, laptop, tablet and phone. (It’s not, the way it is now.) @dave@shawn
@shawn Don’t make the account settings more complicated, this isn’t Microsoft. But the current button placement and behavior could be improved by being more out of the way but always available onscreen.
@shawn Maybe in the future make a poll to see what people want - the poll probably would look something like this:
We are going to fix something that isn’t broken so do you want:
A) X option (mentally poll taker is saying: you have got to be kidding me)
B ) Y option (mentally poll taker is saying: seriously?)
C) Z option (mentally poll taker is saying: Don’t touch my page!!!)
D) Default option: Leave it alone (mentally poll taker is saying: this isn’t broken, I like it, don’t touch it - if you do I will hunt you down and skunk you)
Seriously though perhaps a few polls about ideas folks have to see how they are received and then cull ideas from the outraged comments of “how could you possibly have left this off the poll…?”
@2many2no@shawn Why stop there? Add account settings for shape, corner radius, background color, placement, fade in/out transitions, a background picture setting, font, point size, and letter color.
The web needs more customization and personalization to generate more valuable UX datasets that can then be soldshared with valued supply chain partners and user profile brokers to maximize interaction data product revenues.
@2many2no@mike808@shawn I like it. Obviously shapes and sizes are the most important there, a sort of Custom Shapes and Sizes. I feel like this is going to be big. We just an acronym for it. Ideas?
I’m gonna guess “not.”
@Cythwulf Honestly, I thought something was messed up with my computer and I kept refreshing the forum to make the out-of-place button go away.
It didn’t work.
@Barney @Cythwulf I did the same thing, I even rebooted my computer in hopes of fixing it.
Me too, I dont like it

@rockblossom Cannons and explosions with a counter? What a great idea!
Or how about a Thanos Infinity Gauntlet that made it go away when you click it? (Like the Google Easter Egg)
@rockblossom We were warned that Meh is an experiment.

@cengland0 I didn’t look at wine.woot.v2.0 but it is there on sidedeal, morningsave and meh.
blech.
@therealjrn And life still goes on. Amazing.
@cengland0 I don’t see how that can even be possible!
@cengland0 @therealjrn BECAUSE IT COVERS TOO MUCH SHIT UP!
@cengland0 @sammydog01 @therealjrn
I didn’t even notice it until I read someone’s complaint post. It barely takes up 3/56 of my phone browser’s display window.
@eonfifty It’s HUGE!!!
@therealjrn
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@eonfifty @therealjrn It covers an entire topic line up on my laptop. THE ENTIRE LINE!
@eonfifty @therealjrn that’s what she said
@sammydog01 @therealjrn
Oh. That does sound bad. Can you post a screenshot? You probably have to update your browser.

@tinamarie1974 ha ha ha!

Meh. It doesn’t that bad.
@eonfifty @Kidsandliz ugh, it’s in the middle on larger displays? Weird. At least you can always scroll up.
@eonfifty But since it doesn’t HAVE to be there it is THAT BAD!

@djslack @Kidsandliz The contractor’s motto is: It looks fine from my place.
And the programmers motto is: It works fine on my computer.
@cengland0 @sammydog01 @therealjrn
The button moved. I’d like to see it on the left, but I prefer the right to the center.
I think we should have an account setting for the old Add Topic link or the new button.
@shawn Where was the problem? Not enough new topics?
@shawn Don’t make the account settings more complicated, this isn’t Microsoft. But the current button placement and behavior could be improved by being more out of the way but always available onscreen.

@shawn Want to know how much the new button bugs me? WANT TO KNOW? It’s mildly annoying. I just like to bitch. Don’t change it on my account.
