@fuzzmanmatt Mehmbrane technology for up to 10 million keystrokes, according to the specs. Translation: you’ll regret buying this keyboard for a very long time.
@dmpotter44 ugh. I hate those giant enter keys. Some of our new keyboards at work have them and I purposely avoided getting a new keyboard because I didn’t want to have to deal with that shit.
@RiotDemon I accidentally bought a keyboard with one once and should have returned it, I just can’t use it. But it taught me to always check the enter key when looking at keyboards.
Can you see the keys in the dark or does the light only go around the space between? My Razer Blackwidow is starting to do weird things like double press keys (although I got it in a BOC or Fuku so I am not complaining) and that’s the only thing I don’t like about the lighting.
@atannir@kolme Membrane is fine if it’s cheap enough. $19 … isn’t for me. There’s a good number of “mechanical feel” keyboards that can be had for this price or less, and actual mechanical keyboards can be had for about $30 under $30, like this one.
@narfcake Thanks! I figure a keyboard is both very important and very boring. You either don’t care at all about them or you care a great deal… I’m not going to get custom keycaps or switch my switches so this might be a good option when the doubled letters finally annoy me just enough.
That’s a pretty promising linked product, definitely going to look around for things at that price point now.
If you want an even greater bargain, keep an eye out on Warehouse for one. My office keyboard with blue switches (Outemu) is one I bought for $12-ish. Granted, that’s $10 more than I paid for a genuine Cherry I bought from a thrift store a long while back. Alas, its black switches are on the heavier side.
cd \windows\system32 (typed out at 1/8 speed, looking at the keyboard)
C:\Windows\System32>
The shitty keyboard that came with my gaming rig has this layout. Gets me every time. It’s clacky, but it’s probably membrane. The only difference here would be that I could get the RGB lighting.
I believe I am inspired to upgrade keyboards… to one with a US layout.
@narfcake FYI: This is a US ISO keyboard. What you’re looking for with the flat enter bar is the ANSI version.
I learned this after I bought one in the past and didn’t notice the key was L shaped. You need to look for for ANSI, not just US, if you want the flat bar.
@dam091 Instead of individual key switches, each key squishes the contact sheet below the key instead. It’s a cost effective way to manufacture, with the drawback is that the keystroke can’t be registered until the key hits bottom and there’s low feedback.
@mike808 There are some hybrid “mechanical feel” keyboards that are membrane but are still clicky. IMHO, those are only viable if they’re cheap enough. Real mechanical keyboards can be had for under $30 already.
@ciabelle@katbyter It will definitely make identifying 6 traffic lights, 4 crosswalks and 3 buses faster, so you can hear “Something went terribly wrong.”
[Unicomp owns the original IBM buckling spring patent and continues to manufacture both keyboards and parts in Kentucky. They offer extensive customization, including such items as ‘PANIC’ keys.]
@xaronax That’s the standards agencies, yes. But other countries tend to have more keys in different places than just the enter key. If you’re searching for a keyboard, either one will show up for a US keyboard. I learned this when I accidentally bought the wrong kind some years ago. You need to look for ANSI or keep an eye on the photographs.
I have found that when I have my Razor mouse plugged in anytime I would try to select a file it would select multiple files. So I tried without my mouse connected and the keyboards started working fine but while typing it would randomly change letters to caps and back and forth. Maybe I just got a damaged one, the tab at the bottom of the keyboard was broken off but I wasn’t too worried. But maybe it got hurt more. I have a second one coming, when I get it hopefully it will work better.
This is a terrible keyboard. Got ganked again by MEH. It sits like 3 inches off the desk, so you have to hover your hands to use it. The “M” buttons to the left are quite possibly the worst placement of any keys ever on any keyboard in the span of time. For coding it is infuriating and impossible to work with, when I go for the CTRL key I hit the #@!$ “M6” key and it spawns a new tab on my browser LOL. It is GIANT, like twice the size of my simple amazon basics mechanical keyboard… bottom line (its too late ) do NOT buy this keyboard ever… EVER.
Got mine today. The spacebar is all kinds of messed up. Sometimes double spaces, sometime no spaces…fun times. Absolute garbage! First and last thing I will buy here
I love how lots of people tell you not to buy this (or other items here) for multiple reasons, yet those who buy it come back to discuss what a piece of crap it is. It never fails.
plugged it in and, while it looks cool, I can’t get the backspace, delete or period key to work at all. Tried it on two different computers. Then installed their own custom software, but those keys are just borked.

Why am I seeing dead people?
@eeterrific Because you’re able to type into this forum from the other side?
@eeterrific Nah not dead people, just stupid ones. Sad fact is they don’t even know they are stupid. Leave 'em be.
No Cherry MX Blue? No deal, I’m out.
@fuzzmanmatt I was thinking the same thing lol
@fuzzmanmatt Mehmbrane technology for up to 10 million keystrokes, according to the specs. Translation: you’ll regret buying this keyboard for a very long time.
@fuzzmanmatt @tweezak So this Regret Kit is Eternal but not Instant.
@fuzzmanmatt @pmarin @tweezak
Heh Eternal Regret Kit
@fuzzmanmatt @tweezak
The mushy keycaps under my fingers, nooo
I got it do badass word processing.

A gaming keyboard with membrane keys and … what is wrong with that enter key? I’m out.
@dmpotter44 It’s an EU keyboard layout.
@dmpotter44 @narfcake Close. American ISO
@dmpotter44 ugh. I hate those giant enter keys. Some of our new keyboards at work have them and I purposely avoided getting a new keyboard because I didn’t want to have to deal with that shit.

No Bluetooth? I’m out.

Ooh, membrane… Hmm…
@atannir no reason for membrane keys in 2020.
@atannir @kolme Membrane is fine if it’s cheap enough. $19 … isn’t for me. There’s a good number of “mechanical feel” keyboards that can be had for this price or less, and actual mechanical keyboards can be had for
about $30under $30, like this one.https://smile.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-CHONCHOW-Customize-Detachable/dp/B07YTTM8CS/

@atannir Oops … and fixed. Thank you!

@atannir @narfcake What is Warehouse? It’s not an easy google.
@atannir @narfcake @ParadisePete Amazon warehouse?
@RiotDemon thanks, I didn’t know that existed.
@narfcake a like new version of the one you linked showed up on warehouse deals tonight. It wasn’t there earlier today. Upgrade now in progress.
@lowlypeon Pro: It feels like real office equipment!
Con: It feels like an old calculator.
0 reviews on amazon, not promising…
@robson The one review on youtube is in German so…
EU keyboard layout … I expect a lot of errant backslashes instead of enter for folks not used to it.
@narfcake every damn time I have to use someone else’s computer that has this garbage.
@narfcake Exactly. If there is no backslash key right above the enter key, I get lost. No sale.
@aarond12 @narfcake @RiotDemon
Fuck!

What is membrane

@dam091 @narfcake It’s what allows mems to reason. It’s also the favorite food of mem zombies.
Membrane keys, eh? So no clicky-clacky in the dark.
@mike808 There are some hybrid “mechanical feel” keyboards that are membrane but are still clicky. IMHO, those are only viable if they’re cheap enough. Real mechanical keyboards can be had for under $30 already.
This is more ‘actual garbage’ than ‘meh’.
Insane with that membrane.
@BethanyAnne
Went insane! That membrane!
@BethanyAnne LOL, thank you
My stepson has been wanting a professional, advanced gaming keyboard. Thanks, meh!
@medz lmao you really hate that kid, eh
@Telanis I don’t know what you mean. I’m finally going to be the hero.
Stepson called me “extra” which I assume means extra cool.
Model number with “US” but with a non-US layout.
@chrylis It is a US layout, but it’s the ISO version. The flat bar keyboard is the ANSI version.
Membrane.
@the_inevitable $19
This lousy keyboard should be given away for free as a party favor, not charged money for.
One millisecond? Is that fast enough to get me an IRK next time?
@katbyter Such imponderables require imponderable advice!
/eightball Is this fast enough to get me an IRK next time?
It is decidedly so
@ciabelle @katbyter It will definitely make identifying 6 traffic lights, 4 crosswalks and 3 buses faster, so you can hear “Something went terribly wrong.”
@katbyter nice burn my friend.
@katbyter Eternal Regret only with this model.
I am so Keyed up!
@hchavers I am decidedly board.
Nothing will ever replace my dumpster find IBM Model M! Incidentally, anyone got a keycap for the ‘CTRL’ key laying around?
@PooltoyWolf Nice!
Check eBay for folks selling “model m keycaps”.
@PooltoyWolf Unicomp is your friend: PCKeyboard.com.
[Unicomp owns the original IBM buckling spring patent and continues to manufacture both keyboards and parts in Kentucky. They offer extensive customization, including such items as ‘PANIC’ keys.]
@rpstrong Thanks for this!
@PooltoyWolf I went down a YouTube hole about this keyboard and other types of switches.
Are you able to play modern games with it? Seems good for typing but not rapid repeated keys.
@RiotDemon I honestly wouldn’t know, as I don’t use mine for gaming!
Please do not buy this keyboard if you’re in the United States.
The key layout is not American, and you will be absolutely infuriated every time you try to use backslash or enter.
@xaronax oh dang thanks for the tip!
@xaronax It is Amercian. It’s the ISO version, the ANSI version has the flat bar.
@Cappo The I in ISO means international and the A in ANSI means American…
@xaronax That’s the standards agencies, yes. But other countries tend to have more keys in different places than just the enter key. If you’re searching for a keyboard, either one will show up for a US keyboard. I learned this when I accidentally bought the wrong kind some years ago. You need to look for ANSI or keep an eye on the photographs.
@Cappo @xaronax just because Amazon is garbage at categorizing doesn’t make this a US-keyboard.
@xaronax EXACTLY. Terrible keyboard.
I was ready to buy a cheap keyboard for work until I saw that enter key. I don’t think I can do it.
@lumpthar at least it’s not JIS (the ones with the gigantic enter key AND the tiny backspace key just to make things even more obnoxious)
@lumpthar @ZPB jiz?
Meh. It’s not in an Esperanto layout. I’m out.
no click no pick
Gaming computer. Membrane keyboard. Gaming. Membrane. Link.
Does not compute! System error. System error!
Planning to use for repetitive phrases in an office setting. Fingers are getting stiff.
@sylvandoc
Has anyone gotten this to work. Caps lock is off and it messes with me mouse control.
@mprante what do you mean it messes with your mouse?
I have found that when I have my Razor mouse plugged in anytime I would try to select a file it would select multiple files. So I tried without my mouse connected and the keyboards started working fine but while typing it would randomly change letters to caps and back and forth. @wlrayburn Contact support. These have a 90 day warranty.
Backlight has stopped working, just a few weeks in. The backlight function was the sole reason for this purchase, I am now quite sad.
@fbhidy Contact support. These have a 90 day warranty.
Mine works fine but the backspace button double clicks. Other than that not the worst thing I’ve gotten.
