I rarely 'hear' the alarms (yes, multiple) because I'm hearing impaired and a really deep sleeper. I have one alarm that includes a 'bed shaker' and has an outlet for my lamp. So, when it goes off, it makes a really loud noise, my pillow vibrates, and my lamp flashes on and off. It worked great for the first couple years, but now, I apparently hit the snooze button while still asleep. At least, I don't consciously wake up enough to register how many times I've hit it. Add to that the glitch/flaw in the model I have where it shorts out after you hit snooze a certain number of times and you're suddenly back in a sound sleep for a few more hours. My kids are normal though and wake up with their normal alarms. They know to come haul my ass out of bed (well, shake me a little) by a certain time so they aren't late for school.
I don't Snooze persay... I set 3 alarms, in 30 min increments on my phone, starting 2-2.5 hrs before i have to be to work...so typical day, scheduled in @ 6:30a, alarms are for 4a,4:30a,and 5a.
@joelmw Your frustration was so palpble that l got a sense of relief when you solved the mystery. Isn't it interesting how little it takes to link strangers on the interwebs?
I have four dedicated alarm clocks plus one Amazon Echo(glorified alarm clock). I still manage to snooze them all and sleep an extra 2 hours, interrupted every few minutes by each alarm clock. I'm not sure how I manage to stay asleep and hit the snoozes, but i do. Either that or I just ignore all the alarms and sleep through them.
I invested in a living alarm clock. He is three (almost 4). I haven't slept past 7 am since he was born . Some how, I am still late for work about once a week.
So... I've tried to do it only once or twice... but then there are the times when it "never goes off" which I suspect I used my thumb to unlock the phone instead of snooze... There are also those times when I buy something at meh and don't remember even waking up.... Those are pretty scary.
So far, three times this morning and here I am answering this question on my phone, watching the clock tick dow--oh, there it went!--four times, then. And still face half-smushed into the pillow, covers to my chin, one-finger typing three inches from my eyes as I waste time waiting for the fifth alarm to snooze-press. I guess I'll get up at that one. Or the sixth. We'll see.
It really depends on how well I've been sleeping. If I'm well rested, I generally wake up before my alarm - by at least 30 minutes. If I'm exhausted or running a sleep deficit, I'll hit snooze until someone drags me out of bed, grumbling about coffee...
@Benjamax From the time I fall asleep until I wake up I have no memory of sleeping...thus 8 minutes is as comforting as 8 hours. Hit snooze 3 times and you got 4 sleeps in...awesome!
About 15 years ago, the power went out in my apartment building in the middle of the night. I woke up at some point in the night, and realized the power was out. I didn't have a battery backup on my alarm clock, and I needed to be at work at 8AM the next morning.
Fortunately I had received a battery powered atomic clock from my father as a gift. -I think atomic clocks were still a bit of a novelty then. So I found the clock, took it out of its package and put some batteries in it.
And waited.... And waited.... Atomic clocks do not set themselves instantly.
I looked around on the clock, and found some buttons to manually set the time. I found my watch and used it to set the time on the clock. I set the alarm for 7AM, and then went to sleep.
At some point between 6AM and 7AM, the clock decided it was time to set itself, and I must have had the daylight savings time switch on it set incorrectly. The clock set itself to the "correct" time and because of how I had the switch set, the clock set itself ahead an hour and skipped over my 7AM alarm.
I have been infuriated by the very idea of atomic clocks since, and any time there is a discussion of clocks like this one, I use the opportunity to vent my rage and long story about the evils of clocks that can set themselves.
Go to hell you stupid self-setting clocks.
I didn't read the description since it was sold out. -Was this atomic?
I once told my wife Viagra would help me last longer in bed.
She said the snooze button would work just as well.
I set the alarm 30 minutes earlier to listen to NPR while lying in bed, and just will myself to get up eventually.
@metageist that's funny, NPR usually makes people fall asleep.
Just kidding, I love it and I donate.
@JonT hah! Its actually bad when there is a pledge drive, because I do fall back asleep.
I missed my finals last year thanks to the snooze button.
Morning??!!!
Why the hell would I be up in the morning?
Oh yeah, if I stayed up a little late.
I donwannagotoworrrrrrrrk...
I set multiple alarms on more than one device. Some days I snooze 'em all.
I hit it a few times, except for those mornings when I'm abducted by aliens and not returned until the snooze time runs out.
At work they understand.

When the alarm goes off we have 8-10 minutes to get dressed and get our 13 year old dog outside. Or else. Hitting snooze is mean to him.

@joelmw This ^ made me think of you. How are your eggcorns these days?
@gio LOL. It's sweet of you to think of me (and what a spaz i am; still, it's sweet). :-) Weir eggs-a-lent. Tanks.

I set my alarm every day, yet seems like one of the darn kids always wakes up before it. Think my alarm has gone off once in the past two months.
My alarm is set for 5:03 AM I am usually awake about 15 minutes before. Most of the time I don't need the alarm. its just a safety net.

I want maximum uninterrupted sleep time. My alarm goes off at the terminal point where if I don't get up, I'll be late for work.
I've never understood people who enjoy interrupting their sleep every few minutes.

I don't hit snooze; I disable the alarm. I'm quite crafty when I'm asleep.

@zachdecker Yes
4:10 pretty much sums it up...
