a non-political, happy, dog-u-lar, post
8hi everyone, meet Dakota. Dakota, meet these weirdos.
she’s a 4 year old lab/GSD mix from a local rescue. her favorite game is lose the ball in the leaf pile and throw leaves everywhere to find it again.
she didn’t bark for the first week and a half we had her. but of course she decides to let it rip at 10:30pm and startle the living shit out of me. i feel like she channeled my last dog, Dexter, because he did the same damn thing.
random things she’s been startled by:
the red handle on my son’s sled
a leaf that blew over her foot
a moth she sniffed at and it flew all up in her grill

Our little Shiztu didn’t bark. Then his sight started to go bad and now he’ll bark at his dog bed because he thinks there’s a cat in it.
He sleeps on our bed (with a diaper because he takes a diuretic) and he’s pretty good all night long. Then he wants up in the early morning hours, one of us will get up with him, remove the diaper (he only wears one at night) and take him outside to pee. The human goes back to bed, the pooper dog does whatever an old dog does.
Then he heads back into the bedroom to nap in his dog bed until we get up.
Your dog is so pretty. I like labs.
@lisaviolet it sounds like your good boy is living his best life with you!
we really love her. she’s acclimating quickly. she was an owner surrender, then fostered for 3 weeks, and now she’s with us forever.
@carl669 We got this little fella back in 2019. He was running loose in the street and we took him in. Down to the vet for chip check, nothing. Put a sign on the mailbox and someone came to our door.
Turned out the dog got out from around the corner (gate was left open). The owner’s son in law is the one who came to our house, I told him “if we hadn’t found the owner, we’d have kept him”. He asked if I was serious. Yeah, I was.
He came back within a half hour. With his 88 year old mother-in-law. The dog was hers. He hated the dog, wanted it gone. She had the dog from a pup and due to health reasons moved in with her daughter and son-in-law.
They ended up moving to Sacramento (from San Diego) a couple of years ago.
I still hear from her asking how he’s doing. She was so afraid we’d give him up or take him to the shelter. No, ma’am, that’s not how it works at this house.
@lisaviolet Dakota’s foster has checked on her a couple times as well. when we first met, she said she absolutely would been a foster fail, but her cats made Dakota really anxious, so she didn’t think it would be a good environment.
now i just have to talk the wife into letting me bring Dakota on to the couch to cuddle.
: )
Good girl! Fuck! Good girl!
