A Month of Lego - Indiana Jones and COMCON002-1
7There are only 18 sets in the Indiana Jones series and they range in size from 79 pieces (two sets actually) to the 929 piece Temple of the Crystal Skull. I don’t own a single Indiana Jones set, but my neighbor in Texas collected them all. Personally, I would lean towards the 7628 Peril in Peru because I like planes, but because I don’t have one yet, I’ll probably stay clear.
Today however, I want to highlight a special set. I wanted to bring to the attention of the Meh folks out there that the LEGO Group often creates limited releases. In this case, a run of only 500. And to be lucky enough to purchase one of these, you had to follow these easy steps:
- go to SDCC
- line up for a raffle ticket
- be lucky enough to be one of 100 to have your ticket drawn
- pay for your set
or
- come back the next day to try again.
And if you are lucky enough, this 200 piece set can be yours!
Not a bad little set. 3 minifigs, a jeep and a pit of sorts for it to crash into.
But I will admit, it is pretty cool to own one of only 500 LEGO sets sold, but not sure the effort would be worth it. I’ve never been to a Comic Con. Not real big on crowds you see. So, I’ll just have to drool from my home.
What about you? What is your favorite Non-Retail, Special Edition, Limited run set? I have one that is on my list to tell you about later in the month. One I still want to buy (and probably will), just haven’t gotten around to it. Until tomorrow, be special my friends.

That’s a ton of work for such a tiny set. I’m sure it’s worth a lot now!
Personally, I preferred the Indiana Jones ripoff LEGO did before they got the license: Johnny Thunder. It just worked better and had better traps.
They got to be a lot more creative and not just stick to a few scenes from the movies. Kids got to be a lot more creative too, building extra traps and buildings. They were also able to sell smaller sets. It seems like every licensed set now is $50 or more. Many LEGO ripoff versions had good $10 sets. But licensed sets make them more money, so I can’t judge…
@Weboh I completely forgot where I got that multicolor mummy minifigure. Man, I used that as my go-to lego villain for years. Stole the cape off a Black Knight figure, and made him a flying mummy. So many good memories.
Johnny Thunder and the Temple of Gloom!!
