A Goat's Trip Down Mehmory Lane: Election Day Edition

I had intended to begin this thread yesterday, unfortunately time got away from me. I thought it would be interesting and helpful (at least for me) to take this month and look back at some mehmories.

Allow me a little latitude as I begin. How did I get here? I won’t bore you with my personal details of birth and schooling and growing up so at the moment I will specifically refer to how did I come upon meh. The year was 2009 and a Facebook friend posted something about a rooster and Woot! It must have caught my attention and pushed some random interest button in me so I inquired further. What I stumbled into was kind of a wild west of deal a day tracking bots. Before Wootstalker declared infinite victory over woot bots, there were many. One in particular sounded a rooster crow with every new deal, particularly helpful during wootoffs. I discovered the black hole that is woot, began lightly participating in forum activities and games and played around in the deals.woot thread. I found that there were many people that enjoyed spending time together on the internet joined by the common interest of good deals and general snarkiness.

Fast forward a few years and I learned that a new project was in the works called Mediocre and eventually they birthed meh.com. I signed up as soon as I heard, unfortunately I was a little bit late to the party. If you recall the first thousand people who signed up received a special gift of a $10 $20 Amazon card to be used to send the good folks at Mediocre a random thing… and many of them actually did just that. I was not one of the first thousand. I wasn’t one of the cool kids, however I have never been one of the cool kids. I was a bit more active around these parts in the early days, now it seems life and other interests occupy more of my time though I look back with fondness in my interactions with many of you.

So that I can tie this specifically to election day, I will ramble a bit. For those that remember, deals.woot had a voting tool that would allow you to give thumbs up to good deals found or good comments made. A thumbs down obviously meant the opposite. It worked most of the time, however as time progressed it seemed that there were abuses made and it became hostile at times. It’s funny looking back, I don’t remember the hostile instances nearly as much as the good ones. Over here on meh, there is just a simple star next to the comments that you can click if you agree or like or want to vote a certain person to be a goat. This takes away the negative connotation of a thumbs down and with it one avenue that some would use to bully others. I share this backstory only for this one question/observation. @f00l has starred just about every comment ever made in every thread in these forums. What the heck are you doing? Is there a weird wormhole that will be activated once you complete your task? Is there a special prize in five years that goes to the person that has starred the most comments? People often talk about the meh face click streaks; sad that they’re broken, happy that they finally missed a day. I think the more impressive stat is how many stars has @f00l given, and is there a chance of running out of star inventory?

This is just an introduction to a month to think about mehmories. As I can muster up the energy and focus to do so, I will share my earliest purchases on this here platform. Maybe seeing them will jog fond mehmories or elicit a harsh emotion of hatred and regret for wasting money on crappy things. Jump in anytime.

Below I will share my very first three purchases. I plan to share another or two each day. With all the divisiveness currently going on in the country, especially regarding politics, hopefully we can get together on celebrating or condemning good and bad purchases made on this here our favorite meh.com.
