@Malatr either of those wold be too spicy for me. Even one grain of black pepper is too spicy. On the other hand my kid drinks jalapeno juice like water and dumps tons of Cayenne pepper on her food.
The best by date scares me a little bit. These things have to have a pretty long shelf life, so if they’re less than 3 months from their best by date, how old are they?
Found the answer myself (they were made a year before their best by date)
How long are my Baja Vida snacks good for?
In their sealed packages, our beef jerky is good for 15 months and our beef sticks and mangos are good for 12 months. You can always find the best by date on the back of the package on any Baja Vida snack. For the freshest taste, we recommend you enjoy your snacks within three days of opening (if you can make them last that long!).
@SnakeJG from a 2* Amazon review from a couple of months ago:
You might want to consider shortening the shelf life of this item. The date is 12/07/2022. They are stale, have a bad taste and are dry. I buy these every month and they are not up to usual quality. They were reduced price, I guess that is why.
I tried the street taco flavor beef jerky by this brand (a weird Ollie’s find) a few weeks ago and it was not very good. Dry in a bad way and burnt tasting. Glad I only had one pack to throw out.
@jaygreen More likely, celery powder that has had a microbial culture growing in it; the vegetable equivalent of bleu cheese. They don’t say whether the culturing was intentional. Maybe they bought way too much celery powder from a bulk food ingredient closeouts place at an amazing price, only to discover that the reason it was so cheap was that it had become “cultured”.
This was the first consumable purchase I’ve done of meh because I love jerky and spice, but this forum is making me a bit scared tbh, no one has said a good thing about it… guess we’ll see when it gets here
@Vitanima If it helps, I have bought some really good beef jerky here before. Bonne chance, and enjoy it if it’s good. If it’s not, don’t let that scare you off.
@Vitanima Chances are good that the vast majority of it is perfectly good, but a small percentage is a bit off. You’re probably going to be fine from a spoilage standpoint.
@Vitanima And if they’re nasty on arrival, gripe to Support. That’s what they’re there for. (I’ve only had to do it once, when some socks I bought on SideDeal turned out to be way short of fitting the advertised size range. No problem.)
$32.00 is more than I wanna spend & I would find it hard to impossible to eat these by the 02 ‘Best By’ date, so for those reasons, I’m out!! BTW, meh should give us an option, e.g., 32 for $16.00; that would be a deal I could probably swallow & if they weren’t up to snuff, I could eat that much, but $34 is just too much to eat!!
@awk wish this existed on YouTube to embed, but I couldn’t find it. But this is available without logging in, and the thing I always think of when best by dates come up:
Got mine today. To answer @Malatr’s question from upthread, I say these are about jalapeno spicy. They don’t taste stale, either. This brand is either a little less salty than Slim Jims, or I’ve forgotten how salty Slim Jims were since my college days.
Yes! Finally a product that says that they are ‘Hot’, and it is actually hot. This was was an awesome buy which I would do again. The ‘best buy date’ on my packages is 4/23, but these don’t even feel remotely stale. And like previously said, way less salt content than a Slim Jim.

Anyone know how spicy these are? Like jalapeño spicy or scotch bonnet spicy?
@Malatr either of those wold be too spicy for me. Even one grain of black pepper is too spicy. On the other hand my kid drinks jalapeno juice like water and dumps tons of Cayenne pepper on her food.
@Malatr
/giphy mouth on fire
@Kidsandliz @Malatr, I likes Habanero & Serrano Peppers!
@Kidsandliz @Malatr
Mmmm - corn syrup solids, fat, cholesterol,and sodium, all wrapped up in a collagen casing!
i should hope so …
sigh. It’s MEAT. It doesn’t need sugar!!
@Calantorntain Some of it is for moisture retention.
The best by date scares me a little bit. These things have to have a pretty long shelf life, so if they’re less than 3 months from their best by date, how old are they?
Any chance we can get a manufactured date?

No listing of the ingredients for the “hot sauce” favoring - and that last picture is a bit … oh my, suggestive.
thank Gods these ain’t refurbs…
@alacrity Yeah, no tired old refurbished meat for us! Only young, fresh meat please.
The price can’t be beat
For this jerky meat
The spice may be hot
The dextrose, definitely not

what pray tell is cultured celery powder?
@jaygreen celery powder that doesn’t mind going to the opera, symphony, or ballet for a night out?
@jaygreen celery that wants to discuss your fragility.

@jaygreen celery powder is a natural way to add sodium nitrate, that cures the meat and kills bacteria.

@Vitanima ya mean, you guess You’ll see when they get there!! I assume you aren’t inviting us to a taste testing party when they arrive!!

@1DisabledWarVet
So who’s YOUR favorite shark?
I’ll go for it. I like beef sticks, hot sauce, and eating food way past the best-by date. “Way past the date, put it on my plate” that’s my motto.
/showme gleaming encouraging veil - but with beef sticks
Okay /showme doesn’t seem to work, let’s do it manually:
yeah that’s weird

Knowing this crowd, I’m kind of amazed at the lack of jokes about “meat sticks.”

Well, if they are stale, Meh has always been great with refunds.
Is there any beef pizzle in these?
@mexicantacos, yeah, pizzles & dizzles with a bit of snuff’s, but ya gots ta crush’em & snort’em! And, No, ya can’t run’em up!!

@lljk good to know; thank you
I hope you like spicy cause these are like eating fire. I love very very spicy but these are even too hot for me!
