I bought this last time ans haven’t used it yet because the instructions said it’s only for the crown of your head and nothing else. Reading this write up, you can use it to grow a beard and stuff too, so it’s safe to use elsewhere?
@itzd4n
Hmmm, that’s strange. I used to use a whole hair care system with minoxidil and they were safe for everywhere. I’m thinking it’s safe to use anywhere on your body but maybe it just doesn’t work as well. Besides the scent (when that’s applicable) and the package for marketing I always wondered what makes the men’s products different from the women’s…
After all, minoxidil IS minoxidil!
@itzd4n it’s the same disclaimer with the original Merck (Rogaine) product. It’s because Rogaine was only tested on the crown of the head. It required semi-permanent squares to be marked on the heads of test subjects for comparison purposes. None of the subjects were willing to have squares marked on their foreheads or above.
Fron Google: An early clinical trial by Merck in the 1980s only studied the crown, which limited the labeling of the product.
Funny that this should be on sale today. Yesterday I caught up with an old friend. He told me that he had been using Minoxidil once a day for a while. I had never heard of Minoxidil before. He decided to up it to twice a day as suggested on the label. He said he wound up in the ER with Minoxidil poisoning.
I’ve been using this stuff on and off for a few years, here’s my two cents.
I’ve been doing it on and off because it is pretty expensive all things considered. I believe a three month supply of both this and the finasteride pill can be almost $200. However, I’m excited because the last time this deal was around I got it, and only paid $88 for the finasteride. When I stay consistent, my hair’s made near comebacks. Then I go off it for whatever reason, back to thinning/balding. You NEED to do it every single day for as long as you want to keep your hair fuller. A day missed could reset everything, then you’ve wasted your time and money.
The pills take six months to take effect, I’m on about month three now. The liquid dropper covered up my bald spot pretty quickly, and I’m hoping the finasteride will thug the rest out for me. I’m 23 by the way. If you’re worried about going bald, start sooner rather than later.
@mattbarachko You may want to read up on the half-life on the pill/foam hair combo, as missing a day or two will not suddenly make all your hair fall out again. But I am agreeing that consistency is key - you got to make sure you have a routine and stay on it!
One other thing - once you notice that you are thinning - get on the regimine ASAP! I waited almost two years and wound up losing a lot of hair. Fortunately I grew back at least half of what I lost but I kick myself for not doing it sooner and just keeping most of it from the get go.
@mattbarachko An observation: The 1mg dosage of finasteride (generic for Propecia) generally costs more than the 5mg dosage prescribed for control of benign prostate hypertrophy (generic for Proscar) - and the latter is usually covered by insurance. So if you can show any symptoms of BPH that might be treatable via Proscar, swapping to that could reduce the cost of the drug for you. Of course, those who don’t have a prostate will not find this information useful, bit I’m sharing it for the benefit of those who do.
@jdjonesdr it says that but I use it for my front thinning and receding hairline and it does work. I think there haven’t been enough studies done on it (most are for the crown.back of head) and they don’t want to promise results without the data.
My hair has started falling out because I’ve been losing weight fast (35 lbs. in 4 months, thanks Wegovy!). The dermatologist told me it will eventually grow back, but I’m impatient. I thought about giving this stuff a try, but if it takes 4-6 months to see results, it’s probably isn’t any faster than waiting for it to grow back naturally.
In case there’s any ladies reading this who don’t know, I checked my “hers” brand and this is the exact same foam as the “women’s” version, but the dosage is once per day.
I bought this Minoxidil because I read that women tried it and it worked. I know it says for men. But, now that I have the product, it warns against women, so I’m nervous about using it. Please tell me if it’s ok.
@jburns47 I know several women who use it with no problems. There was another who had skin irritation of the type that men sometimes experience, but ceasing treatment cleared it up.

Can you use this on places other than your head? Like if I wanted a really hairy bottom?
@OnionSoup Hairy Ass Tubman.
But to answer a non-serious question seriously, some folks use this to help grow thicker beards.
Or… Use it to make armpit hair grow extra long so I can do macramé sculptures.
Please Note: Minoxidil is highly toxic to cats and dogs, even exposure to your pillow, if you are using minoxidil, can cause death to a pet!
@lonocat so do not use on a sphinx cat hoping it will turn it into a worthwhile pet
@lonocat @OnionSoup also do not apply on a sphincter! Says “what?”

@marktrimarc thank you both for the info, I will give it a go on areas where my hair is thinning
I can finally afford this stuff now that it is a couple decades too late.
@ponagathos yeah and the bike touring expeditions and multi-day river kayaking trip in Utah,

I’ve lost the hair on my palms. Will this stuff help me get it back, or is there a better way?
@phendrick Go back to self pleasuring…
Instructions say: Do not use this if your hair loss is at the front of your scalp. Not intended for frontal baldness or receding hairline.
@jdjonesdr it says that but I use it for my front thinning and receding hairline and it does work. I think there haven’t been enough studies done on it (most are for the crown.back of head) and they don’t want to promise results without the data.
@jdjonesdr this is the reason my brother isn’t using this. Bought it last time. Also, it sounds pretty toxic.

Why didn’t they wait till tomorrow to offer this? October 1st is national hair day!
@lonocat Ah, dammit! Had I known, I would have!
In for two. The husband uses this and this is about half as much as what we pay Costco for it. Thanks, meh!
