@Fe2_O3 the Kirkland’s brand of this stuff is $50 a pack for the foaming kind. The liquid kind you apply with a dropper is like $18 for the same 6 month supply. The dropper kind is a pain in the ass but I use it because of the price of the foam. This is a good deal imo. If you are balding that is
I was at the school serving food the other day when I saw a young lad who had some serious baldness taking place. Honestly it would have been less humiliating if he just shaved his head bald but I’m sure he’s heard that all by now.
Long-term applier here, the foam and liquid have the same active ingredient and appear to perform identically. If you have access to Sam’s, the 6-month supply is $20.
If this works for my son, I will definitely look for that deal. I wonder if Costco has anything in a similar price range? (We don’t have a Sam’s very close to us anymore, but we know people who belong to Sam’s if it comes to that)
@dschonew@haydesigner the hair only stays as long as you use the product, so if you stop, it will fall out. I just think of it as one of the things in the after shower routine.
@haydesigner, as @DLPanther mentioned, it is a forever treatment rather than a cure. I think most folks see a modest amount of improvement rather than a return to fullness. And it is a twice-a-day habit that can’t be stopped.
@KabukiOrigin Yes, I explicitly said that it was the liquid.
At the top of this thread @dschonew pointed out that the foam and liquid are equally effective, and you could get the liquid for $20 at Sam’s Club. Then @k4evryng asked if Costco had a similar deal, which is what I was responding to.
@dschonew How effective it is depends on the cause of hair loss and how well your scalp (for lack of a better word) absorbs the minoxidil. People who don’t respond well usually will respond much better if they precede it with a retinol. For most types of hair loss, if you stop using minoxidil regularly, then you will begin shedding hair again.
In for 2 sets for my sons (with my contest coupon it makes it a great deal!). They’re so young to have really thinning hair at 23 and 25. I feel so bad for them. My 23 yr old is especially self conscious because he’s in the dating game, and it definitely affects his confidence.
I got some keratin hair strengthening stuff in my irk which I gave to him. Hopefully it will help to thicken the hair he has. It would be awesome if this foam helps him grow it, and the keratin stuff helps him to keep it. (The only issue with the irk stuff is that it’s apparently like $100+ dollars, so if it works, once he runs out he’ll either need to find something similar, or cough up the cash to buy it online…) I know the Minoxidil will need to be continued indefinitely as well…or at least until they’re 30ish.
@k4evryng “…will need to be continued indefinitely as well…or at least until they’re 30ish…”
Or, until he traps a wi…er, I mean, he finds a loving woman and gets married.
Just make sure that her dad has hair so he doesn’t have to worry about his kids.
@thevorlon yup…that’s exactly what I was thinking, lol! A nice girl that can look past him being follicularly challenged.
At least by 30 he won’t be the only guy thinning, but geez…23 is just too young! (Of course from what I understand, Minoxidil comes with its own set of potential ‘guy’ problems that aren’t too great either. )
@haydesigner my husband has been sporting the shaved look since his late 20’s and I think it looks great on guys of any age! It’s so much better than a bad comb over (in my opinion, lol!).
Unfortunately, neither of my boys want to go that route yet. But I bet they will in a few years.
Take with a grain of salt, but i couldn’t grow a beard until I used twice daily monoxidil and a twice a week micro roller. I assumed I was going to stay beardless until in my
30’s a trans coworker managed some facial hair that put mine to shame. I figured I might as well try, and lo and behold it’s not magic, just chemistry and consistency. Now I’ve got a full face of whiskers.
So I tell everyone who thinks they can’t - I thought I couldn’t, and look at me now! (imagine a seeing a bearded face)
@nobile the strength recommended for women is 2% versus 5%. Not sure on the medical reasoning, I believe it is related to excess hair growth not on the scalp.
@nobile I fear I’m too late to the party to be useful, but garden-variety female here, and I’ve been using minoxidil for at least a year and a half. It’s amazing. I lost about half of my hair before I woke up and realized I could use this. I use 5% one time per day. I use both the liquid and the foam on different days, depending on whether I’m washing my hair the next morning or not. The liquid is a bit greasy, but it does eventually dry. The foam is much “drier.” As someone mentioned, it does aid as a styling product, as well. Because I apply it to my whole head, I actually put the foam in squeeze bottles and let it turn into a liquid. A little confusing to explain, but it works. This price is superb, and I was in for three sets. Hopefully I can get it all used by the end of May, but even if not, medications don’t magically lose all their potency at once. If you are devastated about losing so much of your hair like I was, doing this once a day is not even a bother to get the results I got. I would say I got at least half of the hair that I lost back. Pros of the foam are drier, probably won’t dry out your hair as much as it doesn’t use alcohol as the carrier, and can sort of be used as a styling product. Pros of the liquid are it’s generally a lot cheaper, though this $24 price makes it very very close, and also I don’t have to painstakingly squirt it into bottles to get it to turn into liquid Hope someone who needs this sees it!
If anyone has doubts on the effectiveness of this, I can say about 5 years ago I started using it, along with Finasteride, and I couldn’t be 100% which one is working better or if it really is the combination of both or not, but I got a ton of my hair back, I went from a thinning horseshoe pattern to just moderately thin hair, but 5x more of it.
Okay, this is a niche question at best. I’m transgender and, while I’m growing my hair, I still have shedding. However, since I started progesterone my hair is more thick.
I know everyone says that minoxidil has to be taken forever, but since progesterone generally helps trans women grow more hair anyway, if I take minoxidil and start new growth is it reasonable to expect that a respectable percentage of it will stay with me because of the progesterone once I stop using minoxidil?
@werehatrack awesome, thank you! I have some of Dr. Powers’ hair serum, but it has Finasteride and that stuff puts me in a terrible funk. Oral minoxidil worked great, but the extra body hair growth wasn’t fun. I’ll try this!
@Colleenanne2023 My understanding is that the version “for women” has slightly different instructions, and costs more because the lower demand causes the discounts to be shallower. ( in other words, it’s the XX tax, as usual.) Two plastic surgeons of my acquaintance both say that if the men’s 5% foam doesn’t cause skin irritation, use it.

I have a friend who is bald but decided to keep his comb; he just can’t part with it!!
/showme a rimshot combined with a sad trombone
@mediocrebot Dude’s embouchure is nightmarish.
@mehcuda67 I want to know what kind of horn that is… (looks like something from Dr. Seuss)
How long will this last? Debating if it’s worth it at this point since I have a pretty full head of hair at 43.
If you have hair, you don’t need it @Fe2_O3
@Fe2_O3 expires next May

Found the after of the cat in the last photo:
@lonocat Looks like a Giphy for “none too pleased”
@lonocat @phendrick Also used for “Resting Cat Face.”
@lonocat @phendrick @yakkoTDI Looks like a WWE star! Those shoulders! That glare!
I’m just happy to see something new on Meh. Unfortunately, I won’t be purchasing this because of my full head of hair at 45.
@goldnectar The head is not the only place it works.
@goldnectar I wanted to make a joke asking “does the toupee fly off if you drive faster than 45?” but it didn’t seem worth the hassle.
So just imagine that I bothered to make a proper setup so the punchline is funny.
@goldnectar @Hanky
So true. This is why I have such issues with keeping my crack clean.

@dschonew is the hair growth fairly substantial? And how permanent is the new hair?
@dschonew @haydesigner the hair only stays as long as you use the product, so if you stop, it will fall out. I just think of it as one of the things in the after shower routine.
@k4evryng Yes, Costco.com sells the 6-month supply of the liquid 5% for $18 + shipping. https://www.costco.com/.product.778151.html
@k4evryng @The_Tim That’s the liquid. Foam is $50 at Costco.

POPSOCKETS! COURT DOCKETS! FOLK ROCK HITS! AWESOME!
@k4evryng let them know that shaved heads are always a valid option! I’ve been doing that for 20 years now.
@k4evryng “…will need to be continued indefinitely as well…or at least until they’re 30ish…”

Maybe you can too.
Trying to decide if I should buy for a joke gift for all my “bald at 30” friends
Maybe it can make a Hairy Navel
It can make a hairy margarita
Hey just a heads up minoxidil is deadly to cats.
@rofldinosaurs This is good to know given my cat will take any opportunity to lick the top of my head.
@TwentyOunce mine used to sleep on my pillow… Anyways, super fun to use a cat for marketing.
@rofldinosaurs I recommend humans don’t eat it either.
I’m only reading this being used on men… Is there a reason why it wouldn’t work for women?
@nobile Nope! No reason – it will work on women.
@nobile the strength recommended for women is 2% versus 5%. Not sure on the medical reasoning, I believe it is related to excess hair growth not on the scalp.
@dschonew ohhh so if a woman were to use it, she needs to apply it more sparingly?
@dschonew @nobile I found this article interesting
@dschonew @troy thank you so much! This is very useful

@restlessmind Experience in the local community says yes, if your T levels remain suppressed for either of the usual reasons
@werehatrack awesome, thank you! I have some of Dr. Powers’ hair serum, but it has Finasteride and that stuff puts me in a terrible funk. Oral minoxidil worked great, but the extra body hair growth wasn’t fun. I’ll try this!
POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
Used it back in the day but the only places hair growth increased as I older was around and in my ears, my nose and my eyebrows.
Okay, I’m not a regular to the forums here…why is @mediocrebot writing it’s own verse for We Didn’t Start the Fire?
What is the difference in the mens V/S womens preparations? I know theres a TON of jokes, here…but, SERIOUSLY.
