@docflash Also, allulose is not “banned” in several countries, but rather yet to be approved. Basically, no decision yet as to its safety.
Anyway, my mouth generally does not like ANY artificial sugars (though the allulose might be an exception, IDK), so I am staying away from these solely for their use of ANY artificial sweetener. I know most people don’t have that aversion and buy all sorts of stuff that is artificially sweetened (diet Coke, anyone?).
@docflash Alulose is a “RARE SUGAR”. It’s actual sugar, not a manufactured substitute, about 50-70% as sweet as actual sugar, same consistency and I’ve been using it in baking for years now. It’s great. It’s not banned in any countries at all. I’ve never experienced any side effects.
@blaineg@docflash@gageaa75 California causes cancer. They should just post a Prop 65 warning for the whole state at every point of entry, and be done with it.
@raive in re “no wonder they had trouble selling them,” to be fair, they have redesigned their packaging, so they are trying to offload the old. Doesn’t change the ingredient list, but just a side-note.
@ircon96@phendrick My brother was just telling me that at a restaurant where he worked, the kitchen staff liked to put chocolate syrup in their cokes. He said it’s good, but a sure shortcut to packing on pounds.
@ircon96@Kyeh I probably would not like that, since I seldom choose a Coke when other options are there. But I love the Dr Pepper Chocolate Cake at the Cotton Patch restaurants we have around here.
“Better than a Hydrox, which is better than an Oreo.”
Vanilla Hydrox was better than vanilla Oreo, but I beg to differ on the chocolate ones. I’ll give you vanilla though. It is the finest of the flavors.
So for a dollar less you can buy 3 packages of 48 Oreo cookies. That’s 144 cookies. This deal is a dollar more for 6 boxes of 16 which is 96 cookies. Is it the protein you’re paying extra for? Do they actually taste better because I thought Oreo was the standard.
@mehllow And can we stop putting Oreos (or unreasonable facsimiles) in EVERYTHING? Cookies n’ Cream (gotta use the n’) ice cream, milkshakes, coffee, cake, cake icing, cheesecake, cupcakes. Blech.
@ckcarlton Apparently her name is Brandi Milloy and she works for PopSugar, where she apparently posted a recipe for the thing in the photo (which technically isn’t even an Oreo, but I’m not mad about it; it’s a fun gif).
I only know of one other low-carb/keto cookie of this type, and IMO this is by far the better of the two. These are actually really good, if you’re looking for something like an oreo without sugar.
I make a low-carb cookies-and-cream ice cream at home, and these are an essential ingredient.
Speaking of merchandising, I just realized meh.com is ignoring an opportunity. For the first time, I wanted to share your ad because the copy is so good. THIS WOULD SPREAD YOUR MESSAGE TO AT LEAST SIX MORE PEOPLE. I would even be willing to put it up on FACEBOOK. But . . . how?
“Made with” some non-carby stuff, but still contains sugar. Cane sugar is just plain old sucrose, which immediately dissociates in digestion into a 50/50 load of dextrose and fructose, the latter of which is possibly one of the worst things people can consume. (HFCS above 50 is that much worse than sucrose.)
Too bad (not really!) I’m allergic to bein vegan. Pea protein, like the soy protein in the ramen cups I’d love to try =☠…unless paired with some epinephrine!
For celiacs and those with serious gluten issues, I specifically reached out to the company and these are not certified gluten-free and they don’t recommend them for us. Which is a bummer in a way, but I’m glad I aske.
I thought it odd that they hadn’t declared, since they do on many of their other products. Now I know why. It’s nice that they make it clear. Makes me more likely to buy their other stuff.
@ckcarlton@mediocrebot He has a knack for doing those kinds of things whenever he feels he’s not doing enough and needs to go above-and-beyond.
(A coach needs to explain the notion of “Stay within yourself”.)
These things contain sugar and allulose, which is basically sugar that gets past the labeling requirements.
For a cheaper and better keto alternative, buy Oreos then get a sharpie and scribble “keto” on the package. You can live the same lie for less money and better taste.
12 grams of carbs in a 24 gram serving is not Ketogenic.
@blaineg@ircon96 Hey you stole a photo of what our water looked like in this city for weeks on end (well presuming we had any which we didn’t for weeks on end including last summer and fall and over christmas eve, christmas, new years eve, new years day… this last year).

More boring snacks
@thechinglish aw, thanks! 🥹
@thechinglish @troy Yes, please and thank you. I want more “boring” snacks.
How to ruin perfectly good Oreos!!!
@Kidsandliz You mean how to imitate Hydrox copies.
/image um nevermind
Love that these cookies have a warranty
@courteousblock Just don’t forget to rotate them, or it’s voided.
@courteousblock if they don’t fully digest, return them for your money back.
speaking of trust issues, nobody said that these cookies have the artificial sweetener allulose, which is banned in Europe as a possible carcinogen.
but at age 75, who cares? I might get "em anyhow . . .
@docflash
Re allulose:
https://health.clevelandclinic.org/what-is-allulose/

Re inulin
https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-1048/inulin
According to the cookie website, the added sugars are about 1 g per cookie:

@docflash Also, allulose is not “banned” in several countries, but rather yet to be approved. Basically, no decision yet as to its safety.

@docflash just avoid eating them in Europe and you’ll be fine
@docflash @phendrick Side effects (of inulin) include constipation and diarrhea. Talk about a real crap shoot.
@docflash @donpratt @phendrick In the IBD world, we call that “consti-rrhea.”
@docflash @gageaa75
I’ll bet they cause cancer in California. Almost everything does. Including sawdust.
@blaineg @docflash @gageaa75 California causes cancer. They should just post a Prop 65 warning for the whole state at every point of entry, and be done with it.
Reading the ingredient list, these would be personal drain cleaner cakes for me. I think I can safely pass on them.
@werehatrack or they will pass through you!
Stevia tastes gross, and the FIRST ingredient is unsustainably sourced palm oil? No wonder they had trouble selling them.
@raive yea they get all fancy calling it palm fruit oil, but call it whatever you want if it ends in oil, its oil.
@raive well, something needs to take the place of the lard and it has been oil for a while now.
@raive in re “no wonder they had trouble selling them,” to be fair, they have redesigned their packaging, so they are trying to offload the old. Doesn’t change the ingredient list, but just a side-note.
Mmm, chocolate margaritas!
@phendrick AKA, a gagarita…?
@ircon96 Other people put catsup/ketchup on everything.
@ircon96 @phendrick My brother was just telling me that at a restaurant where he worked, the kitchen staff liked to put chocolate syrup in their cokes. He said it’s good, but a sure shortcut to packing on pounds.
@ircon96 @Kyeh I probably would not like that, since I seldom choose a Coke when other options are there. But I love the Dr Pepper Chocolate Cake at the Cotton Patch restaurants we have around here.
@ircon96 @phendrick I’d try that…
@ircon96 @Kyeh The ice cream and strawberries are as you’d expect. The cake is better than you’d expect, unless you don’t like chocolate cake.
So it’s an
Impossible BurgerBeyond Meat Burger but smaller and drier?edit: Beyond Meat is the pea protein one
@awk And there’s another of those “which is better?” match-ups!
“Better than a Hydrox, which is better than an Oreo.”
Vanilla Hydrox was better than vanilla Oreo, but I beg to differ on the chocolate ones. I’ll give you vanilla though. It is the finest of the flavors.
@katbyter It’s so dangerous, you’ll have to sign a waiver…
Ugh.
It’s almost like meh wants to purge vip members lately.
@goldnectar they’re labeled keto. Automatic markup.
@katbyter huh, so Oreos are vegan and these are keto and vegan?
Oreos are better than Hydrox! There. I said it.
However it’s worth mentioning one of the silliest products ever – Cookies and Cream flavored Oreos.
@mehllow And can we stop putting Oreos (or unreasonable facsimiles) in EVERYTHING? Cookies n’ Cream (gotta use the n’) ice cream, milkshakes, coffee, cake, cake icing, cheesecake, cupcakes. Blech.
@mehllow OMG those were so bad… they were like sextuple stuffed Oreos with crumbs in the filling. Just… gross.
@xarophti better than coffee or pumpkin spice. I’ll take Oreos over both of those any day. Twice on Sunday.
/giphy pumpkin spice
@katbyter You know what they say about pumpkin spice: all spice, no #@<+!%& pumpkin.
@mehllow @xarophti
Worked any crossword puzzles lately?
@mehllow Oreos are the best. And they make gluten-free (which these aren’t), including mint!
/giphy oreo
@joelmw @mehllow She looks familiar.
@ckcarlton Apparently her name is Brandi Milloy and she works for PopSugar, where she apparently posted a recipe for the thing in the photo (which technically isn’t even an Oreo, but I’m not mad about it; it’s a fun gif).

Is it time for another website for all of the soon to be expired food? JNC…Just Nothing Comestible maybe? Spoken as J(u)NC

@franksan Dunno.
@franksan Just copy & paste the URL.

@ckcarlton It worked! Your order number is: fumbling-thoughtful-buffalo

@ckcarlton fumbling thoughtful buffalo
@mediocrebot mine’s better
@ckcarlton @mediocrebot But no “buffalo” in that one. That’s Dallas Cowboy’s Dak Prescott with the fumble.
@ckcarlton @mediocrebot @phendrick Wings were on special at the concession stand.
@mediocrebot @phendrick Whoops.
@ckcarlton @mediocrebot He has a knack for doing those kinds of things whenever he feels he’s not doing enough and needs to go above-and-beyond.
(A coach needs to explain the notion of “Stay within yourself”.)
@ckcarlton @mediocrebot @phendrick
So did he end up catching it?
I bought a bunch of flavors from this brand once. All I can say is you should eat with extreme moderation or face dire consequences.
It’s less than 26 grams of carbs in an Oreo.
@Elwelll But the serving size for Oreos is 3, and 2 for these. So that puts 3 of these at 18g for a serving. Not much different than the Oreos.
@Elwelll : Oreo serving size is 3 cookies as opposed to Catalina’s 2.
Adjust for serving size, and it’s a difference of 6 grams for two cookies
Just eat the Oreos and call it a cheat day.
1mg of iron… fuck yeah!
Haven’t tried these, but their keto Cinnamon Toast cereal is good, and doesn’t spike blood sugar.
I don’t care about keto, but the doc says low carbs.
Living on the edge.

@blaineg Name that movie.
@blaineg The Martian…?
@ircon96 Nope.
Try making fists with your toes.
@blaineg Die Hard! The copyright date threw me off… WTH happened with that movie in 2016?
/showme cloudy-slender-toe
Just wondering. Since Hydrox was named after hydrogen and oxygen, would they make good rocket fuel?
@blaineg Or, bad water.
@blaineg @ircon96 Hey you stole a photo of what our water looked like in this city for weeks on end (well presuming we had any which we didn’t for weeks on end including last summer and fall and over christmas eve, christmas, new years eve, new years day… this last year).
@blaineg @Kidsandliz That’s the first thing i thought of when that popped up!
/giphy elegant-guided-cord
Well, they’re not awesome.
Taste like stale Oreos.
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
These things don’t taste very good, but for some reason I still managed to eat like 2/3 of a package in one sitting.
The next morning I pooped like I’ve never pooped before, and hope to never poop again.
@madanthony
Not a thing I’d wish for…
Either you’d be dead or constipated as hell.
