Does this expire? Not that I’m planning on eating it or anything—I’m not. But 6 bottles will last awhile (after all, it’s not like I’m going to be smothering my hot dogs in this stuff or anything), so how long exactly do we have to consume this (topically, I mean) very delicious-looking sunscreen?
@cheapbastard@ciabelle Decant half the tube into a refillable squeeze container for your carry-on, and put the rest in your checked baggage. I do that with my shampoo and conditioner.
@cheapbastard@werehatrack Wow, I don’t blame you, but that marketing phraseology has some real cojones: “No X, which would Y” is technically not claiming “Doesn’t do Y” but certainly is trying to mislead you into it. meh’s writer seems to have gotten fooled as well. A new red flag to watch out for (new to me anyways).
In case you don’t see them: per other responses, apparently, this product does, in fact, Y = harm ocean reefs.
@cheapbastard@ergomeh There is at least one ingredient, avobenzone, that’s specifically called out as harmful to reefs in sources like the NPS. But technically the “HEL” list you found seems to be for both reefs and other environments.
@AySz88@cheapbastard@farley999z more broadly I wonder if these chemical will break down fast enough not to be a long-term problem. All lakes lead to the ocean and the idea that just because it’s diluted it won’t have an impact is not valid for forever chemical or microplastics or …
@davidgro@hchavers And some folks, like my deceased S.O., neither tan nor easily burn despite having pasty-white skin, so a 30 would do the trick. I, on the other hand, would buy 150 if it existed. I’ve had two skin cancers removed so far, one on each arm.
@werehatrack You’re just getting started. I’m now up to 9, fortunately all basal cell. I was foolish when I was younger, and many years later they’re appearing.
@ParadisePete Well, if you count the ones that were treated with 5FU or Imiquimod, I’m up to seven. Only two have needed excision so far. (No melanomas, mostly squamous and one basal.)
While you’re at it, please remove “reef safe” from the main page’s bullet points. They have avobenzone, which is not reef safe per the National Park Service. Despite their copy elsewhere about being “reef friendly” by not containing certain chemicals, they slyly ignore what they actually do contain.

h/t to @chaosdreamer, here.
@AySz88 Thanks! I will keep that in mind. When I apply sunscreen I get it out of my car (or truck), walk away from the vehicle, spray it on, then return it the vehicle. Moving forward I will also hold my breath!
Mine arrived but 2 blew up in shipping and leaked. So only really got like 4 usable bottles. What a mess washing the other bottles up. HEY ! some knuckle draggers In the MEH shipping department. No padding no bubble wrap just dropped in a box - shipping @ Meh - well meh they suck !!
@bkmckenny24 Contact meh.com/support for assistance. I will note that in the extended description for the product, this information was explicitly given:
Depending upon a number of factors, sunscreen products may be safe and functional well past the date on the packaging. The FDA requires that they be shelf-stable in room-temp environments for three years. Some will barely make it to that point without starting to decay, and some will remain potent well past that. Unfortunately, I have no idea which way these will tend to age, so I can’t affirmatively say that I know they’ll remain useful. I know that I have two bottles of lotion of a different brand that are over six years old and still work well, as demonstrated by the sharp sunburn line demarcating where I applied it and where I missed. (I’m a habitual underspreader; I use what would be enough for two people, but I fail to work it around enough.) YMMV, and if you have a history of higher than average skin cancer risk (or you’re getting old, like me) then you’ve got more reason to play it safe and heed the dates. I will also note that there does not seem to be any toxicity risk associated with expired sunscreen that has not changed its physical characteristics; the only thing cited as a risk in using it is reduced protection from UV damage.
Just wanted to give a quick review as I bought a six-pack of this sunscreen. It works quite well! I’m sorta tan all the time while my wife is Wonderbread white. We spent two hours in the blazing sun at Fort Clench, then another three hours on the beach at Amelia Island (Florida) this past weekend, and neither of us got sunburn. We did use a couple of re-applications throughout the day. I am pleasantly surprised at the effectiveness of this product and have always much preferred applying a lotion rather than sprays where 80% of the product goes into the wind to protect precious air molecules from excessive tanning. Recommended!
I did not receive the order. If you check the tracking number, you will see that it has been returned. For some reason, the USPS did not put it into my PO Box. In addition, I received no notification. Please resend or refund the purchase. Thank you.

Resistance is futile!!
Expiration date?
@mcemanuel I’ve added it to our specs
Water resistant, but “When using this product keep out of eyes. Rinse with water to remove”
@werehatrack It says water resistant not water proof.
Resistance is futile!

pic unrelated (it’s not me)
@dvermilion, yes, it expires and becomesless effective with time, eventually providing no sun protection.
@dvermilion that guy looks like he knows a lot about avian legalities.
Do you smell the coconut if you put it on and glaze out?
/showme it rubbing the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again
Something went terribly wrong. Please try again.
@mediocrebot Yes, yes it did.
@ShotgunX I think that quote rubs it the wrong way.
Reef / coral safe?
@cheapbastard
As per their website for Canada.
@cheapbastard Yes per the description.
I just wish these were TSA-checkpoint compliant. Yes, I’d pay the same amount for half as much.
@cheapbastard it’s difficult to read the ingredients but at least some of them appear to be on someone’s list of substances harmful to reefs. I don’t know that website so can’t vouch for the accuracy of the information.
@cheapbastard @ciabelle Decant half the tube into a refillable squeeze container for your carry-on, and put the rest in your checked baggage. I do that with my shampoo and conditioner.
@cheapbastard No, this is not reef safe. Active ingredients are avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene. https://www.nps.gov/articles/protect-yourself-and-protect-the-reef.htm

@cheapbastard @ciabelle if meh was smart, they’d sell some 3.4 oz travel containers next…
Since they are all the same price, what reason would there be to buy the 30 or 50 SPF before the 70 sells out?
@davidgro Because that’s the level some people want, for their own reasons? Tastes and situations vary.
@werehatrack right, but I’m asking what those reasons might be - I want to know if they perhaps apply to me
@davidgro Some of us like enough protection to get a dark tan. Others want a light tan. And still others like pasty white.
@davidgro @hchavers And some folks, like my deceased S.O., neither tan nor easily burn despite having pasty-white skin, so a 30 would do the trick. I, on the other hand, would buy 150 if it existed. I’ve had two skin cancers removed so far, one on each arm.

@davidgro because technically, there is nothing above spf 30
I must be at the wrong daily-deal site. This one is selling a summer product BEFORE summer.
@hchavers Yeah, but these were manufactured to be sold before summer two years ago.
@cinoclav @hchavers still should taste the same
@cinoclav @hchavers
The FDA requires that sunscreen sold here must be shelf-stable for three years after manufacture.
Plant based? Do other sunscreens have bacon?
@katbyter This is an important question that we must investigate.

Heads up meh staff… Need to fix the specs

just being an echochamber of @AySz88

Can you clarify the quantity? I ordered several packs believing these were six-packs, but clicking through to the specs it says three-packs.
@jkyne Sorry about that, it’s definitely six. We’re changing the specs now.
@jkyne
How many kids do you have that you ordered serval packages lol?
@jkyne @Star2236 maybe they’re planning on starting a sunscreen delivery and slathering service for the beach this summer.
Side hustles are everywhere.
@djslack @jkyne @Star2236 Or they have an entire scout troop to take care of at camp. Or … any number of things.
Are any fragrance free? Highly reactive to most fragrances here. I get terrible migraines. It sucks
@Cindyloohooo Check the Amazon reviews - I saw one that said it smelled like coconut.
What is the expiration date? Sunscreen has very little room for working past expiration dates.
@jrvigna They’re up there in the specs but here you go:
SPF 30: 8/29/24
SPF 50: 8/12/24
SPF 70: 8/22/24
Basically, they’re best used this summer.
@jrvigna I mean at this price once they expire they’re still probably decent non-protective lotions to have lying around.
If I can’t spray it on, I don’t buy it. I don’t want that crap on my hands.
@Joedetroit I hope you still have masks on hand, since this stuff is not ideal in lungs either.
(“Natural” titanium dioxide based sunscreens are the first pitfall that comes to mind.)
@AySz88 Thanks! I will keep that in mind. When I apply sunscreen I get it out of my car (or truck), walk away from the vehicle, spray it on, then return it the vehicle. Moving forward I will also hold my breath!

@gs82jet File a gripe with meh.com/support, they’re pretty good about making things right.
There must be some mistake w/the 6 Australian Gold 50 SPF Sunscreen I received Last Week!!
It EXPIRES - 08/24…that is a little over 2 months from now!
I need to return this product and warn others to look at the expiration dates - Sunscreen Is No Good after Expiration.
Please help Meh!!!
