At Iris Vineyards we look to showcase the potential of our red blend when planted in the proper place and in the hands of dedicated growers and our cellar staff.
Tasting Notes
This harmonious blend of five distinct varietals graces the palate with cherry, white pepper, and hints of cardamom followed by a raspberry finish. Pairs well with a variety of dishes.
Vintage Description
Warmer than the Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon had a wet start in the spring followed by some heat spikes near bloom. Neither of those conditions continued through the rest of the growing season. There was very little frost pressure during bud break or harvest. The warm days and cool nights of summer led into a great September. The vines did very well and the grapes had a good balance of sugar, acid, and flavor. The berries came through harvest with good chemistry and high color concentration in the red wines.

The Vineyard
Iris Vineyards is a winery built on the Greek stoics’ concept of areté – that living well means always bringing your best, and always striving to improve. The eye on our labels reminds us to always keep looking for ways to evolve and improve, whether as grape growers, winemakers, managers, Wine Bar hosts, or human beings.
Our winery produces award-winning Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines from our own grapes, as well as fruit we source from some of Oregon’s finest vineyards. Meticulous vineyard management ensures the best possible representation of the South Willamette Valley’s terroir, respecting the environment with sustainable stewardship. In the cellar, our winemaker blends science and art to craft wines that are the truest and most expressive they can be. Open a bottle and discover what happens when you bring your best efforts to the table.
Winemaking
My inspiration for this blend started with a conversation I had with our Director of Sales about the red blend market. I have enjoyed working with the Bordelaise varietals since my time at Owen Roe and our sales director thought a blend like this would be a fun, unique (from Oregon) wine to sell. Each vineyard parcel was harvested at peak maturity. For me peak maturity means that a wine like this will have ripe fruit flavors with little to no vegetal aroma while also having alcohol/tannin/acid balance. The fruit was brought to the winery and destemmed into fermenters. Once fermentation in each lot was complete, we pressed to tank for a one- or two-day settling period before racking to barrels. The wine lots were kept separate in barrel until June of 2024 when they were blended together and returned to barrel for further aging.

Seems to me that it would be easier & more simple to just name the states where it is not available. Since those available srates # 45 + Alaska & Hawaii = 47, that only leaves 3 states where the sell isn’t allowed. Sad to say, my state is one of the three!!
@1DisabledWarVet you may be right, but in general the list changes with each offer, based on licenses the winery & shipper have in place. Sometimes the list is much smaller because of complex shipping rules and in some cases a high fee to get a permit for some states. It’s a regulatory mess.
@cfg83@pmarin There is very good Scotch that was aged in port wine casks. There are also a handful of very good bourbons that get this finish, and a couple are made here in Texas. (I will note that a heck of a lot of the allegedly potables originating from this state are only allegedly potable.
@pmarin my friend. My disgust with this option has less to do with the quality or region of origin and more to do with the fact that anything offered in RED on this infernal website should be offered in GEORGIA RED, and if it is not offered in this shade/option, it is substandard.
My wine arrived a few days ago. It’s a good every day drinker, with a lighter body, some bright red fruit and enough acidity to pair well with spaghetti.
@cathyk39@Heyjude1 I think it definitely needs time and air. It is pretty mediocre at PnP but after a few hours of decanting, it’s actually quite lovely. I don’t think it would stand up to super strong food but it definitely pares well with charcuterie, fruit and cheese

Iris was a mean girl.
ahh hell, why not…

/giphy detailed-airy-huckleberry
@caffeineguy huckleberries are fine but in Oregon we have Marionberries which make excellent pies. Also wasn’t that the former mayor of Washington DC?
@caffeineguy @pmarin are those berries crack-infused like he was?
@caffeineguy @hugacrv @pmarin Bitch set me up!
@caffeineguy that’s the ticket

I don’t need wine. I’m still getting high on sugar from left-over Halloween candy.

Looks interesting. Where are the rats?
Love the Meh button! You guys need to sell a set of that wine glass.
Agree!
Can you have the mouth be a 6 ounce pour and the eyes a 9 ounce pour? I tend to overserve myself.
At least nobody’s whining about the wine selection.

@mediocrebot You kinda phoned that one in, so no stars from me.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot More like texted it in.
Might be a B+ wine but the write-up is A+. Sure, send me a case.
This is the sort of wine deal that WineDavid at Casemates excels at in finding. No brainer.

Is there such a thing as wine scotch?
@cfg83 there is Scotch aged in port wine casks, is that close?
@pmarin Close enough.

We of the Willamette Valley sneer at Iris…(actually not bad stuff)
Do these come in plastic bottles?

@mediocrebot Ok, you get a star, but not really what I was hoping to see.

To those of you who sneer at those of us who love an amazing wine at a screaming price:

Oregon red?? . . . insulting.
@jrwofuga excluding Pinot Noir, I assume. Anything else would be blasphemy.
But I think this is a Southern Oregon blend and they do some strange reds pretty well there. More like NorCal.

Ps. I know as much about wine as Dr. Steve Burle.
My wine arrived a few days ago. It’s a good every day drinker, with a lighter body, some bright red fruit and enough acidity to pair well with spaghetti.
@cathyk39 it’s quite lovely after it opens up. I enjoyed a glass or two last night.
@cathyk39 I’m also really enjoying this! I’d buy again.
@cathyk39 I agree. I’m enjoying it. It’s a little lighter bodied than I normally drink, but it’s good. I also would buy it again.

I wish I bought the case. I really like it.
