@harveydanger i like that they kept the outline of the little jacket that ladies wear just over their chests and arms, just like the tactical pullovers from before but without the contrasting color.
@TBoneZeOriginal I wondered if Meh considered turning “RAPIDraw” into a meh joke but decided the joke wasn’t worth drawing attention to the real meaning of it.
@MarkDaSpark meh is an overstock site so buys surplus from stores. Stores will tend to run out of very small and very large sizes first since fewer people buy them and as a result stores order small numbers of them in the first place, so they likely didn’t have enough 3x+ for meh to buy them. I’m disappointed, but not surprised.
Axtually as they are all "Currently Unavailable at Amazon, there is no price comparison there.
But, this is an excellent price vs the $118 for an XXL at OpticalPlanet.com.
@farley999z Hard pass- I passed at $36, not going higher…
I was just giving a “real world” comparison. The average price I found was around that $118 sweet spot, so in reality either $36 or $49 is a reasonably good price [if the jacket size, style, and color suit you]…
Another possibility is that these seemingly macho he-men jackets are actually meant for artistic velociraptors, who’d use the RAPI-draw technology to be able to reach their charcoal pens and watercolor brushes more easily with their little claws.
@brennyn@TBoneZeOriginal 5.11 Tactical sells a holster that fits in the pockets. They were created as a clothing line for military, law enforcement, and security officers. Whether you use it that way or not is up to you. I personally don’t use it that way and those pockets work well for sneaking candy into theatres.
@brennyn@SpocKirk@TBoneZeOriginal thank you. 5.11 tactical is the company name. All of their products are specifically designed for this line of work. I’m a firefighter, and I wear their pants and boots at work. The pants are designed to look as “uniformy” as possible while still being able to move around in. They are also coated for protection against blood and bodily fluids. The boots have a side zipper for fast donning and doffing. They are also composite toe and dielectric (no metal). Do some people get this stuff because it’s “tacticool”? Sure. But it’s designed with the law enforcement professional in mind.
@brennyn@dam091@SpocKirk@TBoneZeOriginal Although I’m quick to poke fun at anything, you’re right. I have several items made by 511, and they’re all great quality. This is a very good price for this jacket, too.
I’m pretty sure it means 5.11 is selling this for TACTICAL MEN ONLY–but TACTICAL MEN already know what to wear in the event of insulator weather. The only useful part of the product description is that it’s clearly difficult to put on (again, not going to be a problem for TACTICAL MEN no matter how RESISTANT it is to being worn).
At the end if the day, I’m not sure I have enough “not for climbing” carabiners to be considered TACTICAL… although I do own a lot of flashlights. I’ll sleep on it. In my tent. OUTSIDE. INNAWOODS.
How warm is this jacket? Will it keep me warm when shoveling snow at -5degreesF, or is it one of those, “We’ll keep you warm but only in the sort of climate where the coldest it ever gets is 40” like all the others seem to be?
@Liga66 I feel like you’re basically describing 98% of jackets–a subset of jackets under which this jacket almost certainly falls. The 2% of jackets outside of this subset (because who the shit is shoveling snow at -5°F jesus wait until noon) will probably START at around 3x-4x the price (which is still easily worth the money), average out at around $300 or so, and top out at around $700–this is, of course, assuming you’re not planning to climb Everest. Then it can easily be $1k+.
So… how warm do you want to be while you’re shoveling snow and… can you please just wait until noon?
@dvermilion I was talking about the high temp at noon being -5. I’m in Wisconsin. Climate change hasn’t been friendly. I’ll have to wait for one of the warmer jackets to fall into this price range.
@Liga66@Liga66 Dangit. Being born and raised in Indiana, I feel your pain. On the plus side, it hasn’t been -5°F in Wisconsin since 1895. That wind chill tho! This jacket definitely wouldn’t cut it.
@dvermilion I’m not sure where you’re getting your info, but it’s freakin’ cold here sometimes. I mean, I suppose you could be talking in military time instead of referencing a year, but it regularly gets below zero, including just last week. Heck, for several weeks last winter the high temp was hovering around -20.
I want it! I don’t need it. I have a closet full of jackets that I don’t wear, and even though I love 5.11 gear (I do search and rescue) I can’t justify another something that I’m not going to wear regularly.
@fuzzmanmatt same. I have some 5.11 gear and it’s awesome, well made clothing. And compared to everything else I’ve bought from them this is a great price. I just don’t need anymore jackets right now.
@wickhameh to a certain percentage of people these are grey. I’m close. In the photos where the jacket is alone, I could believe it’s grey. But when there is another color, like the blue jeans of the model, then it pops back to green.
How many guns can it tactfully hold? I mean c’mon, what’s a better insulator from crazed, sociopathic cold weather? Olive drab polyester stuffed with fiber fill, or ice cold, red hot steel firepower.
Thank you for providing the picture of the marshmallow man wearing this. I wasn’t sure if it would look good on me based on the male models, but the marshmallow man really helped me visualize what this jacket would look like if I was wearing it and nothing else but a sailor’s hat.
100% Primaloft Silver? Meh. I suppose if you needed a daily that wasn’t all that warm and you could beat the heck out of it might work. I suspect it’s not a light-weight either. For $36 run it until it breaks and save the good stuff for better occasions.
Geepers you guys need to learn English. Its a “Men’s Insulator Weather Resistant Jacket” made by “5.11 Tactical” No tactical in the jacket. If it was, it would be a “5.11 Tactical Men’s Insulator Weather Resistant Tactical Jacket.”
Got it yesterday - unfortunately the “stretch side panels” (which also continue up the insides of the sleeves) are NOT insulated so unless you are wearing a full-sleeved fleece under it’s like you have rips open to the breeze in an otherwise warm jacket.
@bwiderski I’m someone who overheats quickly and I just got mine yesterday. In 32 degree and breezy weather it was perfect for me with a t-shirt under.
Considering I normally wear those thicker sweatshirts with a zipper it’s a much welcome upgrade for me.

That color is Meh
5.11 seems to think “tactical” is synonymous with “ugly stitching”
@harveydanger “tactical” = “a little tacky”
@harveydanger i like that they kept the outline of the little jacket that ladies wear just over their chests and arms, just like the tactical pullovers from before but without the contrasting color.
It must be a tactical shape.
Also, tonal branding FTW.
@harveydanger Well, it’s more about the most important feature, which Meh left off for some reason.
From Amazon: “ unique RAPIDraw pockets for quick and unhindered access to your firearm”
@TBoneZeOriginal I wondered if Meh considered turning “RAPIDraw” into a meh joke but decided the joke wasn’t worth drawing attention to the real meaning of it.
@harveydanger @TBoneZeOriginal
Or your phone or tablet, depending on how big the pocket is.
What’s that? YKK on your zipper?
If it had a hood I’d buy it.
@RogerWilco It doesn’t come in white.
@Hanky @RogerWilco Y I K E
Yah, right. There’s that t-word again.
@RedOak I’m not sure that I’d prefer my winter garments to be strategic…but tactical seems wrong.
@RedOak @UncleVinny apparently you overlooked the “MEN’S” part of the description…
The sizing chart says the XL will fit me. What is the chance it is too small? 8-Ball, what do you say?
@hchavers Outlook Uncertain
@hchavers I own several items of clothing from 5.11. XL jacket fits like an XL. XL shirt fits like a tarp.
Does it have body armor sewn into the liner?
I’d bite if it came with tactical flashlights for each pocket.
Are there any jackets that aren’t “weather resistant”?
@mike808 ‘weather welcoming’…?
@mike808 @UncleVinny flak?
@mike808 Straight?
@mike808 album.
@mike808 Full metal?
@mike808 Yellow?
@mike808 In the world of women’s clothing, so many.
@mike808
@mike808 jean jackets. pea jackets.
Shoot. The 3x would fit perfectly. Oh well. Hope you get some of those in stock with this next time.
@boygenius1991
Exactly. WTF is up with the sizing guide showing higher than 2xl, but only able to buy 2xl or smaller?
Redonkulous!
@boygenius1991 @MarkDaSpark it also tells you to measure your head, so…
@MarkDaSpark meh is an overstock site so buys surplus from stores. Stores will tend to run out of very small and very large sizes first since fewer people buy them and as a result stores order small numbers of them in the first place, so they likely didn’t have enough 3x+ for meh to buy them. I’m disappointed, but not surprised.
@boygenius1991
Not always … they don’t always have the larger sizes on MEH branded clothing either, and those aren’t Overstock.
And in this day & age where the majority of Americans are overweight, it seems shortsighted to only order a smaller amount of those sizes.
/giphy wailing-disturbed-crime
I’m shocked to see NV snapping up this coat.
@ElieC Sin City + Fashion Crime = Not me
Axtually as they are all "Currently Unavailable at Amazon, there is no price comparison there.

@PhysAssist $49 at morningsave
@farley999z Hard pass- I passed at $36, not going higher…
I was just giving a “real world” comparison. The average price I found was around that $118 sweet spot, so in reality either $36 or $49 is a reasonably good price [if the jacket size, style, and color suit you]…
TLDR: Just sayin…
/giphy tactical
I think the “Tactical” should mean there’s a place to conceal a firearm. Is there a pocket on the inside near the waist?
@Tystix one of the bullet points is “RAPIDraw pockets”.
They’re either for firearms or uncooking food quickly. I’m not sure which.
@djslack @Tystix how do you uncook food quickly (or at all)?
@djslack superb answer.
Another possibility is that these seemingly macho he-men jackets are actually meant for artistic velociraptors, who’d use the RAPI-draw technology to be able to reach their charcoal pens and watercolor brushes more easily with their little claws.
@Tystix See my giphy above for the apparent definition of tactical…
@Tystix From Amazon: “ unique RAPIDraw pockets for quick and unhindered access to your firearm”
@PhysAssist @Tystix
Tactitcal*
@PhysAssist @Tystix She’s with SAS
If you aren’t an insulator this jacket is not for you.
@Rossome I’m a poor conductor. Does that count?
@Rossome Oh, no. You can still wear it. It’s for working on 50,000 volt power lines with complete impunity.
Note: that was a joke. No one try this. My lawyer made me say that.
Sheriff Green? Who is that?
For me, it would have to have Picatinny rails at least on the shoulders, maybe on the forearms. That would be tactical.
@mehcuda67 Something like this?
“5.11 Tactical” is the company name, so this specific jacket isn’t necessarily tactical. It’s a jacket for insulated men.
@brennyn Amazon says “ unique RAPIDraw pockets for quick and unhindered access to your firearm”
@TBoneZeOriginal So that’s what the kids are calling it these days.
@brennyn @TBoneZeOriginal 5.11 Tactical sells a holster that fits in the pockets. They were created as a clothing line for military, law enforcement, and security officers. I approve of this tactic.

@dvermilion I am…TacticalMan!
@dvermilion @tgpowell
The hero we need!
@blaineg @dvermilion Wherever did you find a clip of me in action?
How warm is this jacket? Will it keep me warm when shoveling snow at -5degreesF, or is it one of those, “We’ll keep you warm but only in the sort of climate where the coldest it ever gets is 40” like all the others seem to be?

@dvermilion @Liga66 No Wisconsin hasn’t been so lucky as that. There have definitely been some below zero times lately. Jan 31, 2019 for instance was rough. See history tab: https://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/beloit/wisconsin/united-states/uswi0060/2019/1
Indiana seems like the tropics to Minnesota and Wisconsin at times!
@dvermilion Hey! CONGRATULATIONS d! You made the newsletter!

@dvermilion @Liga66 yup and I want to say five years ago in January it was so cold in WI that semi’s and trains stopped running. It was horrible!!
@dvermilion @Liga66 yup it was 2014
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_2014_North_American_cold_wave#United_States_5
@therealjrn lolwut
@dvermilion The daily email meh sends out uses quotes from the forum. You were quoted!
@therealjrn Hah! Don’t worry, I won’t let it go to my head.
@Liga66 It’s true, my data was too coarsely-grained as it was based on statewide averages per month.

A jacket made of only the finest testicals…Huh?
Isn’t this the wrong time of year for Meh to he selling this? Seems like July or August would be more Meh-appropriate.
I want it! I don’t need it. I have a closet full of jackets that I don’t wear, and even though I love 5.11 gear (I do search and rescue) I can’t justify another something that I’m not going to wear regularly.

@blaineg Ooh, first try.
I’d actually consider buying this if it were grey.

How does meh handle returns due to ordering incorrect size?
Given the brand of today’s product, my check-in time is highly amusing.
Very tactical of me to buy it
Nope. I’m more into strategy than tactics. So…when does the 5.11 Strategic jacket go up for sale?
Geepers you guys need to learn English. Its a “Men’s Insulator Weather Resistant Jacket” made by “5.11 Tactical” No tactical in the jacket. If it was, it would be a “5.11 Tactical Men’s Insulator Weather Resistant Tactical Jacket.”
Does this tactical make me look fat?
Got it yesterday - unfortunately the “stretch side panels” (which also continue up the insides of the sleeves) are NOT insulated so unless you are wearing a full-sleeved fleece under it’s like you have rips open to the breeze in an otherwise warm jacket.

@bwiderski Yep, stupid design. Oh well, I guess I bought a “work on the vehicles” jacket for $36.
