Ehh, my last 40 pack was $24, it’s ramen, i don’t want to pay $5 more just for a few months longer expiration date, even years past the date these things will probably taste the same…
@zachhh i think its decent, though i add some kirkland mixed vegetables, an egg or two, and some spam or chicken or pork to it. Then i eat it with sriracha. I do like the cheese/hot ones better, but these are good to me too.
@awk I shall. I like Tabasco on salads, probably because of the vinegar taste. Scorpion Tabasco tastes like Tabasco but with a much better heat level, so I love it on salads. I don’t like Tabasco on much else though!
@awk@defective@jandrese I love the 2x, but sometimes they hit a bit differently and it’s really hard to eat. In those cases, a bit of cheese on top helps. It melts in nicely and can be stirred in, takes the edge off.
@awk I got the 2x because I thought it was on a scale of 1-5 hotness. I was crying with one bite. I tried it again without adding all the pepper package and couldn’t even swallow another bite. I see here it says 10,000 scovile. Too much for me.
@awk@defective I have a 5-pack of the 2x at home. It’s very spicy. Leaving a little more water in the broth will lessen it some, but trust me, it is HOT.
I got these last time and they are quite delicious. The spice level is not too hot and the taste is great. The packets are also about 25% larger than typical cheap ramen.
The cheesy version of these noods are the ones I fell in love with, but I’m not too proud to try the chicken curry. As long as the spicy is spicy, I’m in.
@gertiestn Follow the instructions, leave some water behind when draining, and then sautee them up with the sauce to thicken it… drop an egg in while you’re boiling the noodles too… Fantastic!
What I do is I drain most of the water, then add the packet, my own powdered cheese, and a portion of the sauce (depending on how spicy I want it to be that day). Mix it up, then add a bit of shredded cheese, mix again, and then microwave it for 25 seconds. Can also experiment with adding an egg and/or frying it.
@ShotgunX the curry recipe actually calls for stir frying the noodles with the sauce. I tried it and it’s tasty!
I also read somewhere (probably here, meh is my primary Buldak news source) that curry ramen plus Kewpie mayo is a shortcut to butter chicken. Did that and that was a good lunch day.
@ShotgunX Nuked the noodles for 4 minutes in a bowl with the flakes and just enough water to cover the noodles, drained most of the water, added the sauce packet and then some kewpie mayo. I didn’t measure, but I don’t think I go crazy with mayo so it wasn’t a ton. A squeeze about the same to just a bit more than the sauce packet IIRC. Separately I reheated a leftover chicken breast, cut it into chunks and mixed it into the noodles. All microwaved, so like six minutes from start to finish.
Now I haven’t ever had butter chicken so I can’t speak to the authenticity but the result was chicken and noodles with a creamy curry sauce that was surprisingly good for what little effort went into it.
@djslack@ShotgunX You boil the noodles as regular, then the directions tell you to drain out all but “8 tablespoons” of the water. In practice it works best if you drain out pretty much all of the excess water and then stir in the sauce packet over the still hot but turned off burner.
Oh, also want to mention that the sauce from the spicy chicken variants of this product makes even better spicy mayo than using sriracha sauce. With Kewpie mayo of course. And I also add a drop of sweet soy sauce and a drop of sesame oil to it as well.
@djslack@jandrese@ShotgunX yeah, I didn’t think the stir-fry step was going to make a difference, but it does… Also different than the last… the veggie flakes go in with the noodle boil, not after draining.
Also this weekend I was in an Asian market and noticed bottled Buldak hot sauces in the flavors of some of their ramen. I’m guessing it’s a bottle of what’s in the packets, but I didn’t spring for any to find out.
Who would have thought that Ramen would have inspired so much debate and it’s only 2am.
Pro tip: buy this ramen before you go on a first date and if you run out of things to talk about, pull out the bag of ramen you’ve been carrying in your pocket for inspiration.
After nearly 2 years on here I was about to make my 1st purchase - this ramen deal.
But then during checkout it wanted to charge me $6 shipping and that was a deal killer for me.
@BedrQQmiii just out of curiosity to your “nearly 2 years here without a purchase,” what brought you here and why have you hung around with no purchases? The good humor and amusing banter? I came for a coffee maker years ago and have been unable to escape!
@devyanimations nowhere near as hot as the 2x spicy. These are pleasantly spicy to me, while the 2x spicy are hot enough that while I can eat them, they’re not just something I want to have for lunch.
@devyanimations you say that as if Tabasco is something super hot. Anyway, of course it isn’t as hot as the 2x, if your 2x isn’t hotter than your regular why call it that? Anyway, you can just get paste of whatever chile you like and add it to make things spicier, that’s what my daughter and I do
@devyanimations FWIW my teen/preteen daughters will eat the curry flavor but the 2x is too much for them. The average person would consider the curry quite spicy and the 2x inedible. Both hit harder than Tabasco but I wouldn’t say the curry is on another level or anything; if you can handle a tablespoon of straight Tabasco you’ll probably be fine with the curry.
@NadmanET I guess I didn’t do myself enough justice
I could literally drink Tabasco from the bottle, but most people who can’t handle spice consider it very spicy. Just thought that covered most of the clientele here.
I skew more Carolina Reaper than Jalapeno, but I’m happy with a Habanero if it’s flavorful enough. Just wondered where on that spectrum these would fall.
You should check out Flat Iron Pepper Co. I was on the hunt for higher quality crushed peppers and found tons of great reviews about them.
Ordered myself a gift set with a grinder for Xmas and asked for samples of the blends that didn’t come with it. They loaded me up and they do not disappoint!
My faves are the “I Can’t Feel my Face” and the “Smoke Show” (the smokey flavor REALLY pulls through)! The fine grind really opens up the flavor/heat too.
These are great but they are rather pungent for an instant ramen. I made one at work one time and it made the whole place smell like curry ramen for the rest of the day.
I bought the other hot cheese flavor before. The hot and cheese packets are separate, fortunately. The first time I made it I dumped both packages in the noodles. HUGE MISTAKE. The spicy packet is a marvel of science. It’s liquid flames. I tried just putting a few drops in on my second attempt after a tongue transplant and it was still impossibly hot.
Caveat Emptor.
This stuff is terrible. Three chicken flavor is non-existent. The noodles are extra meh. I thought I’d love it since I like spicy food but this is spicy yet flavorless. I’ve been trying to go through a box for a year. I can’t give it away. I might rather eat the packaging
@membrr Agreed! Having steered clear of gluten for a decade now, precludes the same here. Which is kind of a bummer, would like to play with the spice. Though the “select all ingredients” (as so eloquently said by @coldwyn) might be even worse for one’s GI than the gluten itself!
I bought (too many of) these last time they were offered. I think they are at least a couple notches better quality than most such packaged noodles at the supermarket. They are, however, VERY spicy. The simple solution is to use only about half of the sauce packet. That makes them perfect for me.
@sluggy7584@troy You can also cut the spiciness with additional ingredients, like powdered/shredded cheese, a little bit of cream/milk, an egg, or even some diced vegetables.
So today for lunch I honored Meh… Cooked up some curry ramen, added canned peas and carrots and an egg poached in the broth. Kept it soupy because it’s cold today. All those additions and keeping the water dialed down the flavor and spice so hit it with some hot curry powder and a little mustard powder which seemed like it would go well in there. Proper, warm full belly and sinuses cleared, now back to work.
If I didn’t have 35 more packs of curry I’d be in for more.
My daughter asked me to get these for her back on December 5th and I asked if she wanted more… her reply: “Damn, they are delicious, but also I really don’t need more.”

I wasted 35 seconds of refresh for this?
/showme bloke what ate too much curry
I hear this work well as a suppository to help you shit.
Is it made from 100% natural organic artificial spicy chickens?
@shahnm they are cruelty-free artificial chickens. The real cruelty begins when you eat it. Or the next morning.
@pmarin @shahnm Is the cruelty artificial?
@blaineg @pmarin @shahnm Yes, but 9 out of 10 artificial chickens can’t tell the difference.
I hate spicy food but even so, the number of times the spice level was emphasized in the writeup gave me a chuckle. Spicy as fuck, indeed.
Ehh, my last 40 pack was $24, it’s ramen, i don’t want to pay $5 more just for a few months longer expiration date, even years past the date these things will probably taste the same…
@ctweeks2002 taste?
@zachhh i think its decent, though i add some kirkland mixed vegetables, an egg or two, and some spam or chicken or pork to it. Then i eat it with sriracha. I do like the cheese/hot ones better, but these are good to me too.
Someone just clicked the “select all” button when making that ingredients list.
@Coldwyn this is such a great comment that it deserved more than a simple like! Well done!
In Buldak-land, these are a little bit below medium, spice-wise.
These charts are always out of date but let’s see what we can pull up:
/image scoville samyang noodles spicy level
@awk I just ordered that top one the other day. Gets here tomorrow. Am I going to be ok?
@awk @defective 2x is…uh…an experience.
@defective you’ll be fine. Did you get the optional asbestos underpants?
@defective It depends, what’s the hottest hot sauce you could eat by the spoonful?
Also, they have hotter ones now including a 3x.
(Anything hotter than the regular black packet is too much for me.)
@djslack oh crap.
@awk maybe Secret Aardvark? I could go hotter than that. I put Tabasco Scorpion on my salads but I would be hesitant to eat a spoonful.
We’ll see!
@defective
I actually had Tabasco Scorpion on a steak and cheese sandwich today… (never tried hot sauce on a salad, hmm)
Secret Aardvark is really mild, I don’t think any of the Buldak are that mild.
I haven’t had the 2x in a while but I think it would be comparable to Tabasco Scorpion, maybe a bit milder. As in, eating a bowl noodles coated in it.
Personally I think the Buldak SHU ratings are about 1/5 what the noodles actually feel like.
Try a pack and report back!
@awk I shall. I like Tabasco on salads, probably because of the vinegar taste. Scorpion Tabasco tastes like Tabasco but with a much better heat level, so I love it on salads. I don’t like Tabasco on much else though!
@awk @defective The 2X spicy ones are a bit hard to eat. I have a fairly high spice tolerance and they are no joke.
@awk @defective @jandrese I love the 2x, but sometimes they hit a bit differently and it’s really hard to eat.
@awk @defective I have a 5-pack of the 2x at home. It’s very spicy. Leaving a little more water in the broth will lessen it some, but trust me, it is HOT.
@awk Try using just over half the hot sauce packet to start, add more as needed!
@Artimid @awk @defective @jandrese Yeah, adding something oil based (cheese) or taking a bit out with a bit more liquid is better for me.
I have already had to initiate a Ramen Box, and it is full. But maybe by March, these will be cheaper and I’ll have space!
/showme extremely spicy buldak noodles aftermath a pretty girl experienced
@datruandi what is it with AI’s penchant for botching human extremities/digits?
/showme Hochi the buldak ramen mascot after a few too many packets of noodles
@awk That’s pretty good - AI knew that Hochi is a chicken!
@awk @Kyeh And he’s really good with chopsticks, considering he has no opposable thumbs. Or fingers, for that matter.
@awk @Kyeh This takes “Artificial (Intelligence) chicken flavor” to another level
@gertiestn The spicy is spicy. These are quite good too. I prefer the quattro cheese slightly more but really dig the curry.
@gertiestn Follow the instructions, leave some water behind when draining, and then sautee them up with the sauce to thicken it… drop an egg in while you’re boiling the noodles too… Fantastic!
I’m down for a colon cleansing. Definitely going to keep the bidet close to put out the fire.
You can control the spice level by using a portion of the packet (I use 30-50% and save the rest for another cup).
Also, you can buy some powdered cheese on Amazon and add it at the end for a more cheesy flavor. Something like this for example:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BP49G88S
What I do is I drain most of the water, then add the packet, my own powdered cheese, and a portion of the sauce (depending on how spicy I want it to be that day). Mix it up, then add a bit of shredded cheese, mix again, and then microwave it for 25 seconds. Can also experiment with adding an egg and/or frying it.

I actually have made a purchase 2 years ago.
That wasn’t too bad of a deal and was good for gifting.

Does anyone know if these are as hot as their 2x spicy? Tabasco isn’t hot enough for me, always looking for spicier foods.
@devyanimations not as hot as 2x. Someone posted a chart above with the Buldak on a scale of spiciness.
@devyanimations nowhere near as hot as the 2x spicy. These are pleasantly spicy to me, while the 2x spicy are hot enough that while I can eat them, they’re not just something I want to have for lunch.

@devyanimations FWIW my teen/preteen daughters will eat the curry flavor but the 2x is too much for them. The average person would consider the curry quite spicy and the 2x inedible. The carbs would do me more damage than the spice.

@richferg then you can be a pillar of the community!
The curry flavor is probably my favorite. It is weird though, that even though they are dry and should keep, the expired cheese ones made me nauseous.

This ramen is fantastic. Buldak was already at the top of my list for good spicy ramen, and the curry variant adds so much extra flavor.
I’ve been very pleased with this the couple times its shown up on Meh.
