@cutitdown I think I have tried almost every style known and haven’t found a comfortable one yet. I must have a weird head and/or face, I guess. So I’m trying these.
A friend had a box of these, and they were less comfortable (by far) than I expected. The foam nose cushion/seal chafed, the shape of the cup was too small for my face, and the upper elastic band kept slipping down and irritating my ears.
You’ll have to put your own conspiracy theory there.
And there are so many to choose from! Each with its own fan club preinstalled! Some of them even with actual people behind them instead of fake personas from a paid-troll booth in Belarus.
The last KN95s meh had 2-3 months ago were really nice. Just an unexpected nice surprise. It was a 50 pack. I’ve been waiting to order more but,alas, this ain’t the same one.
DO NOT BUY THESE!!
The expiration on these is July of this year, it’s impossible to wear glasses while wearing these, the elastic isn’t tight enough for a good seal, and I can feel my breathe through the mask (unlike my other ones), and they’re way too small to be a good fit. I’m convinced these are knockoffs. They’re also itchy af. Don’t waste your money on these, they’re absolutely atrocious.
@HankB33@sum1
Coating treatments that enhance certain kinds of particle attraction will dry out. If they’re actually made to the NIOSH-certified spec, they’re probably still far more than effective enough at stopping the aerosols that are specifically worrisome for contagion control even after that.
But see my own remarks above the “we hid a bunch” cutoff. These don’t work worth crap for me because of both fit and discomfort issues.
@jitc your boxes might say September, MY boxes all say July. They’re selling products that have been sitting around since 2020, which means the mask will not last as long as people want if they want to stock up. The masks already seem like they’ve deteriorated, idk how they’re allowed to sell these
@sum1 I wasn’t talking about the masks in your home, I was talking about the ones they’re selling here. It’s possible they’re being dishonest in the details up at the top of the page, but it seems like a silly thing to be lying about, since it’s only two months difference. That being said, it makes more sense to me that someone sells them at a discount to people who believe they will use them by September than to just pitch them in the garbage.
@HankB33@sum1
I actually looked it up when I read that. One of the bigger concerns is fit and adequate seal. After so long, the question is if the elastics still hold integrity and shape for extended use. The one source I looked at tested it and said yes, but I imagine the expiration is when they don’t guarantee it anymore
@jitc they’re the same masks they’re selling, I just got them on morning save instead just like a week ago, so people would be definitely be getting the exact same masks. It’s shady af, and I’ll never buy any safety equipment from any of their sites again
@HankB33@thechilipepper0 that’s exactly the thing I’m talking about, the elastic is already not tight enough. There’s a review on morning save that says the same thing. These are absolute crap and I’m really wondering if they’re even legit masks because I’ve never been able to feel breath through an n95 except for these! Definitely don’t get these
@jitc@sum1 I received mine today and the expiration date is Sept 2022. Obviously sum1 didn’t buy from this batch.
They also fit on my face as well as any other rigid N95 masks I’ve used. So YMMV.
Found some info on these, will let people make their own decision, but IMHO, seems these are NIOSH approved if not counterfeit. In what I think I read, these are N95 if made to NIOSH standards, guess KN95 means Chinese made masks not given the NIOSH certification. The filtration chart given looks like about 99% filtration if I read it correctly. My concerns is that these were obviously made in China, and have a rather short expiration date this September. 3M N95’s have at at least 2 years on what I seen, so probably why these are on sale. Also the CDC test was done 2 years ago on this brand and model, then again these may be those ready to expire in a few months. Severely expired N95’s tend to start decomposing, nose pad starts flaking off, head bands get weak just like rubber bands do and break easily. So just make sure these will be used in time. I assume what’s pictured in the link below is an individually wrapped mask from the box.
I bought some of these as a Morningsave Daily Deal a few weeks ago. They’re kinda Meh. They’re much more rigid than any mask which folds, which means they are less able to conform to your face. More they rely on your face to conform to the edge of the mask to get a good seal. The one I tried on and wore for a few minutes (without my glasses) felt okay, but maybe a little small. I wouldn’t want to wear one when I needed to speak a lot. But for just sitting (like at work) or walking around/shopping/mowing the lawn (woo-hoo! grass allergies!), these would probably be fine. I like that they have the head straps rather than the ear straps.
@gt0163c I have had so much better of a time with lawn mowing since masking started… for years I would always dread mowing the lawn because of grass allergies, now I mask up and hop to it.
@gt0163c This. I had tried hardware store dust masks in the past, but those sucked and never really helped much. I think part of the problem with those was their rigidity. So far, the N95s KN-95s that I’ve used have all been great in comparison when I mow the lawn.
for years I would always dread mowing the lawn because of grass allergies, now I mask up and hop to it.
Similar here; I’ve adopted using the mask for lots of things where I might raise a cloud of dust, too. And when Tree Sex Season starts in a week or so, I’ll be wearing one whenever I go outside. (Today, it’s raining, and the air is pretty much particle-free, yay!)
Counterfeit shmounterfeit, IF these were counterfeit, Why TF would somebody go to the trouble to counterfeit a Chinese brand instead of a 3M? Come on you paranoid androids, these ARE NIOSH certified real-deal (albeit, Chinese). Man people are jumpy these days. In for two boxes. P.S. - Expiration dates are for suckers!
“Highly adjustable” how now? My work graciously provides masks with behind-the-neck and over-the-head straps and they feel soooo much harder to get a good fit vs some fancy over-the-ear Enro masks I bought to play Ultimate frisbee in, that have a little adjustable washer thingy that lets you change the tension on the straps.
The wire is a tad low; lower than in the pictures. Hard to get a good seal unless you pull the mask up ridiculously high. I’ll have to move it up some.

I imagine not as comfy as 3M Auras?
@cutitdown oh man I imagine those are the gold standard
@cutitdown, if those are the foldy ones, they always collapse on me.
@cutitdown @thechilipepper0 The gold standard are Moldex 4800 respirators.
expensive af but worth every penny.
@cutitdown I’ve worn both and no they aren’t as comfortable as them. These are also MUCH cheaper and in stock.
@cutitdown I think I have tried almost every style known and haven’t found a comfortable one yet. I must have a weird head and/or face, I guess. So I’m trying these.
Hopefully the risk of Covid-19’s will decrease, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Have known too many people that have not survived covid.

Wish I hadn’t bought those weirdly creased KN95’s, they don’t fit right.

@awk All Praise the Noodley Goodness of the FSM!
RAmen!!
I’m in for a box. Looks more comfy than the over ear k95s
A friend had a box of these, and they were less comfortable (by far) than I expected. The foam nose cushion/seal chafed, the shape of the cup was too small for my face, and the upper elastic band kept slipping down and irritating my ears.
More mask for Covid-19? <Insert conspiracy theory about government tyranny, anti-vax’ers, and/or China here>. Will it ever end?
@hchavers I’d insert it there, but it won’t allow me to edit your post. You’ll have to put your own conspiracy theory there.

@sum1 Too late for me!
@sum1 I wonder why they expire.

@sum1 it says September of this year, not July. Not that that changes much, materially.

@danexton Read the reviews of these on Amazon. Typical Chinese garbage.

@gt0163c @Vinito @werehatrack I like idea of Tree Sex Season. Seems much more fun than miserable allergy season. Especially if you are a tree.
“This one if for…”
?
@PocketBrain Yeah, you caught it, too.
Typo in the third word.
Meh.
@PocketBrain
Hey, they fixed it!
Zong Brand. Wonder where they are made? My bet is they cost less than fifty cents to make and package all 40.
I think you missed on the model number by transposing the g and n. Should read, N95 THATS A BIG NO.
I’m waiting for Meh’s “very best toilet plunger” - that’s a deal that would move me!
I’d like to know what Meh has done to ensure these aren’t counterfeit. It’s been a huge problem pretty much everywhere.
@TexasDex If they don’t fit the first time, then maybe a counter-fit is in order?
Pretty sure “sand people” is, indeed, a racial slur. Against fictional creatures, but still.
@flynnski there is a real racial slur that is two words starting with sand as well.
@flynnski @mbersiam
Yeah, I first ran into that one when I moved to Houston in '81.
