Does your box give an actual manufacturer other than what I found in the photo on ebay?
The ones I have finally decided to buy are made by powecom (Guangzhou Baoweikang) and are on the list (they are also more expensive than what meh is selling). They have been since at least last May. They have only 2 USA distributors, one of which is
On the other hand, masks that haven’t been fitted (I know you know this, just posting it for folks who are unaware) are going to have air leakage anyway so something that is tighter fitting than a rectangular disposable will have less air leakage which is a good thing and likely give better protection just due to that.
@momofboys bonified masks is legit as the importer. I went to the English version of the Chinese manufacturer website to confirm that. The list of imported mask tests have had their masks on their list as passing 95% each time they test. But again unless the mask is properly fitted you aren’t going to get best case filtering due to air leakage of a poorly fitting mask. Likely much better than a disposable rectangular mask though. They also have an anti counterfeit sticker you can check the number on their Chinese website.
@glarue But you need to be careful which ones you buy as some are no better than the rectangular disposables for filtration. It depends on the manufacturer. Some KN95’s have as good filtration as the NIOSH N95’s and some are far, far worse. This manufacturer of the mask for every face mostly had filtration at 90+%, only a couple below that (although the worst - from memory - was 33 something, the next worse was 48 or something - 10 get tested monthly in the USA). Of course they need to be fitted to actually get the kind of protection one wants.
@giorgitd@glarue Someone posted it in an older thread (there have been a number of them) about masks (probably one of the ones where they were sold I’d guess) and so several of us looked it up on the list. I don’t remember what it was, I just remember the results.7/10 were above 90% - might have even been 95%+. I just looked at the box I have and it doesn’t say so someone must have called the company and asked?
Since we aren’t going to be “fitted” likely the differences aren’t going to matter that much. The bigger difference is going to be that they will fit far more tightly than a rectangular disposable one which will make a difference and will likely have better filtration than many of the cloth ones and will better than all of the one layer cloth ones out there.
@hchavers it’s going to be months, probably at least the second half of 2021, before the majority of Americans will be inoculated. Especially considering the the vaccines are going to require two doses some period of time apart.
@hchavers@kevincoleman Yeah I remember the shingrix (the “good” shingles vaccination) shortages. That went on for more than a year, once the shortage started many places you couldn’t get it at all, and they prioritized those who needed the second shot (and many didn’t get the second shot within the recommended time due to the shortages and it made sense to prioritize them) over those who hadn’t had the first one. I don’t think there is a shortage of that anymore but it was frustrating initially trying to get that vaccination.
Side comment on shingles - you do NOT want to ever get shingles. Ever. I had it of 5 nerve roots during chemo and it is extremely painful 25/7 (in my case it was like having that part of your body in a frying pan being burned with dentist hits the nerve about once a second on top of that). And the pain can go on for months (in my case 6 mo and I was lucky it finally stopped). So if you are eligible to get that shot get it. Fortunately those who never had chicken pox won’t get shingles. Oh and you can get it more than once.
@hchavers@kevincoleman@Kidsandliz just got my first shingrix shot on Saturday. Side effects were nasty but i know having shingles is way worse. still not looking forward to follow up vaccine!
@Kidsandliz I am going to get my second dose later this week. I had flu-like symptoms from the first one, but they only lasted 24 hours. BTW, one of your earlier posts about shingles motivated me to finally get the vaccine.
@natertots On some past mask thread (of which there have been a lot of them) It seems to me someone posted that info and then several of us looked them up. It’s not on the box that I see (at least the box I have). That someone who posted the info must have emailed or called them. Or maybe some boxes in the past had that info? What is inside is all in chinese. Maybe someone threw that through a translator?
@PeatyR I’ve got 2 out of the 4 boxes I ordered. 1 is still on it’s way (through SideDeal), the other is stuck in Pitney Bowes hell in College Park, GA. Lately I’ve been loosing a lot of stuff there
@arcsus@richrauch There are, however, good masks made in china that meet USA standards. There is a list of those that pass those standards put out frequently. Some meet those criteria every month. See elsewhere in this thread for that list.
I ordered a few boxes of these from Meh last month. While they are comfortable, and I believe far better than generic “surgical masks,” they don’t quite seem to be up to the 95% standard that they claim.
Per CDC, out of a sample of 10 of this specific product, only one tested above 95%, and three were below 50% (lowest was 33.3%). I wish I could like these more, but now I understand why Meh is able to sell them at such a low price point.
@MDR001 Mine - from this ‘batch’ - arrived today and are from a different mfr than noted above. My box says Zhejiang Hongyu Medical Commodity Co., Ltd. in Yiwu City, China. I could not find this mfr on the CDC website, either as approved or as a fraud. Anyone have more info?
Shipping is slower then a turtle humping a rabbit. Absolutely ridiculous and I even paid for faster shipping. Will stick with other places to purchase from.
I ordered them on Dec 1 and received them on Dec 9, which is quick. They have a slightly different picture, are the “Zhejiang Hongyu” produced ones, Model K95-P20 number GB2626-2006 on the box of 20. Good fit, but they have perforations through all layers at two places across the mask, two more around the nosepiece, and a double row completely around the edge of the mask. One set of perforations is visible in the picture on the box.
@manskybook Make sure those are actually holes all the way though. They melt the polypropylene to hold the mask together which created flat, nearly see though marks where they applied the heat. They will leak air through those holes (you can always fill the holes with gel superglue), but then again so do rectangular masks through the sides. In that respect they likely will be no worse. Of course we have no idea of their filtration efficiency. They aren’t on the cdc list of being tested.
Yeah I looked more closely and there was a thin semi-translucent layer in the perforations, and I shone a bright light through the mask, which dispersed, rather than making bright lines. I don’t expect much, except they fit well, and are a good line of defense with my other masks.
I received my masks today and they are too big for me. There is no way to adjust them, so I do not feel I will be able to use them. I am a small woman.

@cinoclav I checked the only other deals sites to ever exist, sidedeal and morning save. This is a pretty good deal turns out.
@cinoclav I can’t find Peifeite on this list:

@Kidsandliz Thank you for this. Since I am a suspicious cynic: This company is a legit business in NY right? Sounds like you researched it.
@cinoclav Thanks for the tip

On eBay there are even more at a much cheaper price.

The vaccine is about to go out for mass distribution. Great timing Meh.
@hchavers It will take time, lots of time, for the vaccine to be widely available to the general pubic.
@Kidsandliz but being the professional hoarders us Mehtizens are, we already have a 12-month supply of masks.
@hchavers Wearing a mask will still be a good idea for a long time after the vaccine is widely distributed.

@macromeh glad that post kicked your butt to get it done!
Unfortunately, that is not the area of the body for which I was searching for protection at this time.
@RedOak i looked quickly through all the photos to see how that works. sadly, nothing…

@RedOak Looks to be a personal problem that goes deep. At least thats what i’ve heard!

Will you draw a face on every mask?
Does anyone know the manufacturer of these?

@natertots best I could do in a minute or two:

I’m still waiting on the ones I ordered last time. Anyone get them yet?
@PeatyR I got mine last week.
@PeatyR Same here!
@PeatyR Yep, also waiting for the 11/16 order. It does say shipped though.
@PeatyR I’ve got 2 out of the 4 boxes I ordered. 1 is still on it’s way (through SideDeal), the other is stuck in Pitney Bowes hell in College Park, GA. Lately I’ve been loosing a lot of stuff there
@PeatyR I got a USPS message that mine have been delivered today. I’ll know for sure when I get home tonight.
@PeatyR Mine did come in today, lucky for me they were inspected by Bond, James Bond…
Made in… China, right?
@richrauch yes. The KN is the chinese standard.
@Kidsandliz @richrauch screw that. Hard pass.

Well I bought some a while ago that had through and through perforations, but Meh was quite helpful in refunding me for those. I’ll give these a try.

@MDR001 MY APOLOGIES!
My response was about the product Meh offered previously.
@giorgitd @MDR001 I just got mine and cant find the “Hongyu” that’s part of Zhejiang…
@MDR001 This should have been mentioned in the description. I emailed - And was told to return (And pay return shipping…)
Still waiting on mine ordered at the beginning of November. Pitney Bowes is hiding them somewhere…
Got mine today, and they are "Zhejiang Hongyu Medical Commodity Co., Ltd. " Item No SM002
Can’t find these in the testing lists…
They are 5 layers, though, for what that’s worth…
Shipping is slower then a turtle humping a rabbit. Absolutely ridiculous and I even paid for faster shipping. Will stick with other places to purchase from.
I am a LONG TIME user of Meh, and Woot before it.
This is the FIRST item I was frustrated with, I emailed asking for a refund and they demanded I return them (I pay for return shipping)…
I am going to escalate it up and try to speak with someone about it. I do feel this was false advertising
